Limited menu. Horrible food. The 4 of us had the worst meal in memory. Sat right by the kitchen...you don't want to eat there.

Oh my goodness, amazing smoked whitefish, pickerel and trout, right by Killbear Provincial Park. My…read morehusband and I learned about this place as we tried to buy campfire wood and ice. Brian Perks sells great hardwood for your campfire. He also sells blocks of ice, which I prefer, as opposed to cubes. SO here is our business practice as a customer: on the way into camping, we pick up Fire and Ice (a.k.a. wood and a couple of ice blocks). Every few days, we come back again to replace said items. Brian Perks charges far less then the park does, and his wood is better, too! But the thing to truly die for is the smoked fish. When you are staying in a park called Killbear, with actual bears roaming around, you don't want to be keeping smoked fish in your cooler, car or tent. We pick ours up on the way out. You can choose between Whitefish (drier, whiter, nice for salads), Trout (oily, full-flavoured) and Pickerel (I have not tried it). Both the whitefish and the trout are outstanding! Mr. Perks told me that most of his produce goes to New York City, and much of the rest to Eastern European customers in Ontario. My Mother (Ukrainian and Romanian) adores this fish. Last year I forgot to pick some up, and she's not let me forget it! This year, I stopped by Perks Fish on my way out of the park, and was so happy to see him still in business. If you enjoy smoked fish, or just need fire and ice for camping, check out Perks Fish! A true hole-in-the-wall, hidden gem, etc., it is worth a detour if you are in Parry Sound, and worth stopping by if you are staying at Killbear.

Sliced into thick meaty pieces, it's adorned with a wasabi aioli that gives it Japanese French flair. The amazing tuna made the shrimp lettuce cups ($17) seem severely underwhelming. Sure, it contained great fresh ingredients like delicate butter lettuce, poached shrimp, and cool vermicelli, but it seemed to be missing something - like a mango slaw (or even the coleslaw they serve with the fish and chips) - anything to give it colour, interest, and more flavours. Cliffside smartly heats their plates, so the mains arrive and stay piping hot. But it does mean proteins like the seared salmon ($42) should be undercooked to finish, so it's not completely cooked through when it arrives. Nonetheless, the fish had a nice crust and was still flaky inside. I wouldn't have thought to marinade salmon in a rosemary beet mixture, it ends up creating a natural tasting sweet and savoury glaze. Overall, the main is a healthy but filling dish finished with soft creamy stewed lentils, roasted asparagus, and a light citrusy beurre blanc sauce. Our seafood meal continued with the fish and chips ($24), which had a nice airy crispy beer batter. In lieu of the traditional chips, Cliffside serves the fish with shoestring fries, it's slightly softer texture almost reminiscent of McDonald's spuds. Online reviews generally commend the restaurant's food but complains about service. Our Friday dinner went off without a hitch with someone around whenever we needed. The only anomaly was Cliffside includes a bread plate and butter knife with their place settings but never actually asks if would like or serves any carb. Perhaps a bit strange, but hardly anything that would mean a flaw in their service.

Great food, spectacular location, family friendly, highly recommend to anyone who's hungry and…read moreinterested in premium food

Good spot for a fun night out. Stopped by for dinner and got:…read more- Fillet with side Shishito Peppers and Mushrooms: Fillet was cooked to yhe perfect temperature and was lean yet tender. Shishito peppers had a nice bite, mushrooms were a tad salty. - Swinton Burger: It was ok, pretty standard burger. Patty had a nice pink tonight, though was a bit overcooked on the outside. Good amount of chunky fries. - Sticky Toffee Pudding: The definition of indulgence, as the pudding is drowning in a lake of sauce. - Sunshine Express: Refreshing cocktail. Absolute standout service that's welcoming and helpful. Kitchen is a bit slow, though likely due to the amount of guests they get. Prices are on the higher end. Vibe is elevated casual. Overall an enjoyable night out.

Staff were really nice and they made a great recommendation with adding the carrots as a side. If i had to recommend a unique side it would be the carrots! It was so flavourful- we were all amazed by them. We had to order a steak and they really can cook these well. You can see where they fire them up on the grill. We ordered everything to share - Steak, pasta( i can't remember which one), carrots, fries, chop house potatoes, lamb chops and sticky toffee pudding. Everything we ordered and ate was absolutely delicious and I would definitely be back to enjoy another meal here! The vibe is cool in there, a good option if you're looking for a fancier dinner in the area.

I have no idea how to rate this restaurant. When you first walk you feel like you're on the east…read morecoast. The servers are all kind and friendly and everything look cute and fishing themed. We had a party of 12 so this might explain why our food took so long to come. Some people at our table got their food straight away but I got my food 1 hour later and even then my order was wrong. I asked for pan fried pickerel got deep fried and it was very dark even burnt in some places . Not golden brown like fish and chips usually is. My friend got the lake fish and was told that she got trout even though it clearly wasn't trout. I was disappointed as this restaurant looked pretty good and was such a cute little place. Side note there is a store downstairs and might not want to get any food down there because it is overpriced and stale.

They had ordered all 4 types (white, pickerel, etc). They were different and delicious in their own way. The homemade coleslaw that it came with was unique and light. The breading on the fish was thin and crispy. The fish chowder was filling and great for 2 people. Service was a little slow but the servers were kind. There is very little parking so plan accordingly.

Last night my wife and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary with our three daughters at Catch 22…read more We arrived early for our 7:15pm reservation and were greeted at the door promptly. As they walked us to our table I requested a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate. Our server came by to confirm the bottle order and take our daughters' drink request. When our server came with the drinks the unfortunate happened: the tray tipped and the beverages fell resulting in shattered glass, wet clothes, a small cut on my finger and lemon in my eye. The server was mortified and we felt terrible for him. I went to clean myself up while the server and a colleague cleared everything away. 15 minutes later - at 7:50pm - our bottle arrived along with the drinks. The rest of the night went off without a hitch and the food delivered. The reason for my poor review is this: at 9:05pm we got the bill which included that bottle of prosecco, a bottle of red, multiple starters, multiple steaks with paid-premium sides. Not an inexpensive meal at all. We still had full glasses of wine to enjoy so I didn't open the bill. One minute later the owner of the establishment came over to give us a nudge to pay. I understand that you close at 9pm on Thursdays but considering the delay was in no way our fault I hardly understand the move. Furthermore, at no point during the ordeal did management/ownership come by to check on us and see if we were alright. Finally, no items were comped on the bill - not even an iced tea. I paid the bill (with 15% gratuity), chugged my wine and left without so much as a goodbye, thank you or apology. It's too bad that a restaurant with a nice atmosphere and good food within walking distance from me is never to be enjoyed by us again but this is the service industry and that starts with management/ownership.
