Nick and Linda, the owners are very friendly and welcoming and run a very good pub. The landlord keeps the best Stella Artois in all of Pembroke town. The George is used a lot by local contractors working at the local oil plant but people return to George for the quality of the accommodation year after year. The pub has a very friendly atmosphere and is devoid of any trouble. Highly recommended.

The beef was overcooked, the roast potatoes were burned (almost totally inedible), my wife makes better Yorkshire puddings than were on our plate (doughy and rather flat). The broccoli in cheese sauce was actually pretty good as were the other veggies. The service was good and prompt but they were very busy and several of the young staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. With a little research we discovered they are advertising to hire a cook. That makes sense. It has a very nice pub atmosphere and I particularly liked the Royal Navy cap tallies over the bar.

We initially wanted to go somewhere else as it had 4.5 star rating on yelp but that other place was closed on a Sunday so we re-yelped and found this absolutely fabulous little hidden gem very close to the hotel we were staying at, the Cleddau Bridge Hotel. As we parked the car, we said to ourselves, wow this place is gorgeous and it seems that not too many people know about it. We were super hungry as we'd just spent a day in Skomer and so when the food came it was bliss. EVERYTHING was so delicious and I dare say it's not because we were very hungry. We had the steak and stilton pie, the Sirloin steak with creamy mushroom sauce and gloriously fried fish and chips and ended with the crumble of the day. The pie was simply perfect, the steak was a great showcase of Welsh beef and it's sauce was one of the best mushroom sauce I've had and the battered fish was perfectly fried. Crumble was lovely. Oh dear, I'm hungry just writing this review. OK - now to the visuals. The pub itself and interior is nice and cozy. Quite pretty in fact with cute decorations here and there. And then there's the outside. We would have sat outside if we hadn't been outdoors on an island with no shade for 5-6 hours as the view was just lovely. You could easily come here on a beautiful evening and have a very romantic (and as above, DELICIOUS, meal) seeing the sunset on the River Cleddau. Needless to say that we will be back here again on our next trip in Wales :)

I've been coming to this pub on occasion for many years now, and it has seemed to often change from…read moreone year to the next - especially in terms of the quality of the food and the general upkeep of the place. Overall though, I like this place. It has the charm of a traditional pub, a few real ales are usually available and often sourced from nearby (or somewhere in Wales at least). It had a pool table last time I was there although this has come & gone over the years. Most importantly, over the summer you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view - uninterrupted views over the headlands with the sound of the sea in the background, makes this a very pleasant place to enjoy a pint. Most of the trade comes from holidaymakers rather than from the local village, so it does tend to be seasonal and opening times can be erratic out of the holiday months. It has a restaurant area attached to the bar, so you can come here from a proper meal and take your chances on the quality of the food that year. Overall, I feel like I'm maybe being a bit generous giving the place four stars, given it's lack of consistency, but when it's on form it is a great little place to visit and well worth stopping by if you're in the area. It's location just off the coastal path also makes it a great place to end a relaxing coastal stroll or strenuous headland hike (some of the paths are steep!!)

The food menu is typical pub food like Lasagne, Bolognese, gammon, sausages, scampi and fish with the odd twist like Thai Red Chicken Curry, Mussels Marinere and dressed crab, most main dishes are good value at £7-10. We had steak and chips served with mushrooms, peas and onion rings and also braised lamb shanks with red wine and rosemary. In both cases the main ingredients were actually nicer than expected, but let down by very over-cooked vegetables. Good value and recommended, especially given the lack of decent local competition.
