On a warmer day we might have enjoyed sitting outside in their quaint little beer garden, but it was the perfect moment to bag a table by the fire. Top marks for a menu that takes vegetarians seriously and gives us plenty of tasty options and glowing praise too for the steaks that were cooked to perfection and for the excellent the cod & chips in Dougs special batter. OK the ladies loos had seen very much better days, but I'll gloss over the details since everything else was terrific. Well worth a visit if you're in Tenby and looking for a budget friendly eaterie.

Worth the pilgrimage if you're near by; easily reached from Tenby. We found it to be very friendly, quite busy with locals and dogs and with a fantasticly warming real fire. There's plenty of crazy stuff about the place,stuffed animals, photos and lots about the old Landlady Alice Davies who ran the place from 1961 until she was 90. A great deal of heritage in this 18th centuary pub and a tasty pint of Worthington's firewater to go with it.

A huge plateful that would be enough for two! the most reasonable is the Roast dinners, approx £10 a head. The walls and ceilings of the Inn are covered in memorobilia, from horse brasses to farming tolls, there is enough to occupy your mind while you wait for your meal. On your way to the loo you will encounter a full suit of armour, and in the back are fish tanks, and a talking parrot!

I love the fact that there are little booths backing into the walls like snugs, filled with cushions. I love the food, but more than anything I love the Quorn burrito. Rarely do I find establishments that serve Quorn as part of vegetarian meals, but this Quorn burrito is in a world of its own. Quorn, peppers, onions and Mexican spices, wrapped in a flour tortilla, then baked with cheese on top until crisp, piled high with salad and spicy potato wedges. As well as this you can get a variety of pub grub and lighter bites too, like baked potatoes and sandwiches, or hearty main meals including a belly-busting burger. The drinks are just fine and dandy and the atmosphere's really enjoyable. But really, I'm always there for the decor and the Quorn burrito. Both put a big smile on my face. Hey, and the Greek salad I had today wasn't bad either. Plus their onion rings have been unrivalled thus far. Awesome.

There's a main bar area with a TV and a small and two quieter upstairs eating areas. They serve lunches Tuesday to Saturday and dinner Wednesday to Saturday, as well as Sunday lunches. We had a lovely supper one evening, starting with Glamorganshire cakes with red onion marmalade (delicious) and whitebait with bread and salad garnish. For mains we had a chicken burger and courgette lasagne inc. garlic bread), both served with salad garnish and chips. Both were very nice and good value. The bill came to £31 including one drink. On the second visit we just had one course each, steak & ale pie with vegetables and chips (£12), and a vegetable tagine with cous-cous (£9.50). Service- provided by volunteers - was friendly and efficient throughout. On summer evenings and Sunday lunchtime booking is essential. Recommended - friendly and good value for money.

However, I popped into the White Hart one day as The Ferry down the road wasn't serving food. I was really disappointed - I'd been saving lunch there as a treat for my aunt, visiting me in Wales. My disappointment dissipated pretty fast. The fish and chips we had for lunch were second to none I've had in recent memory. That's saying something, as I've eaten some amazing fish and chips over the years - they're my thing. The portion of fish was huge, fresh and perfectly cooked. The batter crisp and yellow, complementing the soft, juicy whiteness of the fish perfectly. Even the chips were absolutely delicious, and the fish was so large I couldn't finish the chips, which my aunt could confirm has probably never happened before. A punter told us to drink "Gethin's Cyder" with our meal. This stuff wins actual awards and - if you manage to get your hands on it, which is not easy - you'll understand why immediately: it feels like you're stealing from the gods when you drink it. So why only 4 stars, when this is a 5 star review? Because I can be a snob, and I know that if I walked into a place with a 5 star review and it didn't look like a 5 star place, I'd turn on my heel and make a swift exit. Appearances deceive and you may not like the slightly shabby look of a very local pub with no pretences. Also, I remember thinking there wasn't much else happening on the menu that appealed. So The White Hart might be a one-trick pony, or a two-stunt stag if you count the cider, but both feats are worth a trip. Call ahead to check if the kitchen is open, as it sometimes isn't.
