This was our first time staying in a Bed & Breakfast. We had room 4 which was described as a regular room with queen size bed. The bed was more like a double & the bathroom is quite small but given this is a 130 year old Victorian house it's understandable. There's a ceiling fan & AC unit in the window to keep the room cool. Wifi & breakfast are included in the room cost which was totally reasonable. Chain hotels were asking for much more & don't even include breakfast nor were they close to downtown. Hubby & I enjoyed our stay at the Balmoral Inn. If we ever come back to St. John's we would stay here.

We rolled up to the Winsor house and hadn't previously stayed in a classic styled bnb. The house itself is very large as are the rooms. Since staying here I have stayed in a few bnb's and now can say that there is a lot of privacy in the Winsor house. Gery and Lesa are very personable and are ready to answer any questions about their space, the City and their personal connection with both. The Winsor House is a queer friendly (LGBTQA+), which is something my partner and I are always conscious of when looking for spaces in Cities we have not been. Thank you Winsor House for our stay! The house has been restored immaculately. A feeling of warmth and coziness envelopes you as soon as you walk in. Our host, communicated wonderfully prior to our stay and greeted us upon arrival. We were handed a parking permit for our vehicle and shown the common areas of the house. We were then brought up to our room, which was beautiful and had everything we needed. Our host made sure we were settled in and gave us his cell number in case we needed anything. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great nights sleep! The highlight for us was breakfast! Hard boiled eggs, cooked to perfection, homemade breakfast cookies, out of the oven, homemade granola, apricot jam, cereal, toast, coffee, orange & Grape fruit juice, cheeses. James, our host always made sure we had everything we needed. The second night there were two rooms that were occupied with travelers who arrived at midnight and were making loud noises until 2 o'clock in the morning. The hostel has hours posted and it is expected that quiet hours begin at 10 pm .. perhaps they didn't get into St. John's til late but I was annoyed that they couldn't be more considerate. The operator is a young woman who is having health problems and is absent, but a local operator of other hostels on Gower Street was looking after the guests. He was very helpful and even drove me to a local best Buy to buy a charger for my mobile. The $99 CAD + 13% tax price is competitive only because the B&Bs and hotels in the area are more expensive. The breakfast items are plentiful. No European cheeses or fresh pastries as advertised on the website but there were juices, milk and eggs in the fridge. Fresh fruit every day and cereals with a coffee maker and regular coffee and Tetley tea. The small landscaped patio off the back and the common areas were comfy too. The WiFi was not working but the computer was adequate. I would recommend and also would consider the hostels on Gower Street.
