It can be difficult to find a seat at busy times although staff are often on hand to help and the price is doubled on a Sunday. If i were rating purely as a bar I would give 3/5 due to the staff being somewhat impatient at night, who seem keen to finish as soon as possible. There is little atmosphere compared to other pubs in Seaton Sluice but they do have a relatively cheap selection of lagers and soft drinks, the fairly recent introduction of ales was personally well received by myself.

The Astley Arms has a nice bit of history, being a popular pub with submarine crews during the Second World War. Make sure you read the stuff about the HMS Seahorse's crew who never returned for the whiskey they won in a raffle on Christmas Eve in 1939.
