It's refreshing to see this kind of architecture in Los Angeles among endless mini malls. You can tell real pride went into the design and craftsmanship. A true historic landmark and worth taking a few minutes to appreciate while you're there.
What can you say about the Bradbury Building except that it is not what it once was. Currently, you…read morecan walk in there pretty much seven days a week and see the skeletal remains of what was once a fantastic piece of DTLA architecture. Now, the upstairs offices are generally blocked off and all that is left is the what used to be. Certainly, the Bradbury Building came to fame during the 1982 movie, Blade Runner where it was used as one of their primary sets. This was long before it was renovated showing off it's truly unique interior architecture. Very beautiful! For a lot of years, this building was pretty much closed to the public except for those who used it as a filming location. Being involved in the film industry for a lot of years, I personally have been in this building a number of times throughout its evolution. More recently, somebody got the great idea to renovate it. I guess that's a good thing? But, in its current state, all that you see is a whole lot of tourists coming in there, even tour guides, taking people in there telling them all kinds of lies about the history of the building. They weren't there, so they don't know! Yet, they speak about it. Now, it's a modernized office structure. Yes, much of the interior metallurgy is still there -- reminiscent of the time gone past. But much the vibe of the building is long gone. That's sad, I think. So, if you're in DTLA, and you want to look back to the past, the Bradbury Building is a interesting place to do that. It's right across the street from Grand Central Market, so it's impossible to miss. You can pretty much go in there seven days a week, and though you'll be limited to staying on the first floor, you can take a look and see what once was. I would say it's definitely worth the expedition.

Rosenheim built the mansion in 1908 to live in his wife. In around 1930 Edward Everett Horton lived there. The Sisters of Social Service then took over the mansion in 1930, using it as a convent and adding a chapel to the building in 1932. Around 1999/2000 the site was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. It was beautiful and still is in its own right. It was later sold in 2015 for about 3 million, which was a huge price cut from its initial offering. There was a lawsuit against the sellers agent for never disclosing that the property was featured on American Horror Story. Fans of the TV show stated going to it and this made the owners just a tad upset. It is now Murder House. You can now up to walk Murder House and take photos of the beautiful mansion and the area greenery. It is about an hour of fun. We ate some delicious Mexican food on Olivera street and then walked around the building. First look, what you see as you walk on the building is a beautiful old hotel that is completely abandoned. Apparently they rented out for special events so there's a lot of storage of chairs and tables inside. We walked up to the buildings we saw a couple of the drapes moving and opening And what appeared to be an old ballroom. We figured that might've been a draft but then we looked in the room from a side window, there was no visible air conditioning that would be moving the drapes or a draft. Went up to one of the windows of the curtains to look inside my friend saw a man's brown shoes moving away from the window just as she walked up. There was nothing else visible in the room. As we walked around the front of the building near the main stairway entrance to the left. There were windows with no drapes that looked into a large dark storage room with events tables and chairs. As we walked by the third window I saw a shadow figure peering out and then moved back into the room just as we walked up to the window. I have never seen a ghost in my life and this is the first time I've ever seen any type of apparition of any sort. I would definitely like the opportunity to go inside this location and see what it's really like. I'm sure there is so much more activity inside.

To visit, you will need to reserve tickets to The Broad's general admission AND the Infinity Mirrored Room exhibit. I feel like if you're already going to The Broad you should also visit the Infinity Mirrored Room. I might be biased since I enjoy taking photos. The tricky thing is that the reservations for the Infinity Mirrored Room are released on the last Wednesdays of each month at 10am for the following month OR you have to keep an eye out for openings the day prior. They are currently not taking same day reservations. The reservations are time specific, but there will still be a 15-20 minute line. You can get in line 10-15 minute prior to your window slot and staff will probably not give you too hard of a time. You are expected to go in together with your group, unless you make reservations separately. If you want to go in alone for that selfie, you should make your own reservation. The maximum group size to enter together is 4 people. Any children under 13 must enter with an adult. Obviously, my boyfriend was dragged to go with me. Before our visit, I was researching what poses to do since the time is so limited. And then when we were in line I gave him a quick run down of the plan. It worked out nicely and we were able to take a few photos, a quick video and still had a few seconds to actually enjoy the art installation beyond the selfie taking purposes. This experience was very special for me. I think the careful planning and taking feedback from others allowed me to enjoy my visit. One minute can go by quick if you wait to get inside the room to coordinate your poses. And coming with someone I care about makes it even more memorable.

Fossil remains from animals, uncovered during park renovation, show that the area was used as a prehistoric watering site. In 1837 the area was a part the land called Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela, translated "Sentinel of Waters." Both the spring and the valley were named after the sentinels that used to guard the cattle that used to graze near the streams. A unique feature of this monument is that it used to be a natural drinking fountain. Unfortunately, the surface springs have all been capped by the Water Department. Serra Springs (also known as Kuruvunga Springs), located at 11800 Texas Ave in West LA, is another prehistoric natural spring site. Unlike Centinela Springs, it still flows freely and you are able to view it in its natural form.

On the front, at the corner of Main Street & Rose Avenue, there is this 30 foot tall Ballerina Clown or Clownerina affixed to it. CVS is right underneath this public art. When one thinks of a ballerina, a female comes to mind. One odd thing about this art is that the while most of its features are that of a woman, the head is definitely a man's! Here, you have a combination of male & female; and classically trained performer & a street performer all rolled into one sculpture. There's even a spotlight circle on the background to highlight the star (at night, there are real lights shining up at it). The Ballerina Clown is wearing red ballet slippers & a wire mesh tutu and standing on a soapbox. Very unique! Sure, this may be a super odd piece of artwork, but there's good reasoning behind it! There are tons of oddities in Venice! There was a 12' version of this clown at MOCA. Jonathan Borofsky was working on other projects and showed the clown to Harlan Lee and he had this clown commissioned for this building. Lee said, "My head started spinning like crazy. The beauty of the body is the beauty of Venice, the Pacific Ocean and the Boardwalk, and the sad face is the sadness of the homeless wandering around Venice. 25 years later, it's still valid." That was in 2014. So, this Ballerina Clown was erected in 1989. The clown's right leg originally was intended to continually kick, but the tenants complained that the mechanical leg was noisy so it was unplugged. For the 25th Anniversary, Lee repaired the mechanical leg and got permits. Not sure how long the kicking has lasted, but the leg has NOT been in motion for most of the time. I read it was kicking from 1PM-6PM daily. While you're here, make sure to go across Main Street and head South to set your eyes on the giant Binoculars! It's really cool, too! I was here at about 10:45AM, so I missed the "action". I wanted to get a real kick out of seeing the leg in motion, so I guess I will need to come back!
