I have been a Waste Management customer for years. I rarely ever look at my bill. I did look at it this month. My wife and I recently moved to a location that does not have a trash service from any company. After speaking with multiple neighbors many committed they would use a service if one became available. I tried multiple times to contact Waste Management to inquire about possibly starting service in my new location. Unfortunately, I was never able to reach a live person. While driving on an extended business trip I literally sat on hold for over 4 hours and no one ever answered the phone. Another reason I rated them so low is because of how their costs continue to creep up without any notice. Here's an example. On my bill it says I could potentially be charged an "Energy Surcharge" if we have an over abundance of garbage or too many large items. After reviewing our bill we have been issued an "Energy Surcharge" for the life of our account. Admittingly there probably have been times our trash can was over full, however it has not been every week for 6 years. The Energy Surcharge was recently raised in January 2026 from $22 to $35. It jumped by almost 50% without notice. That is unacceptable. Lastly, the days that it was over full were likely the week following holidays. During holiday weeks I would frequently get text messages from WM stating that my trash service would be delayed by a day due to the holiday. Someone forgot to tell our driver because they would ALWAYS come on the normal scheduled day and sure enough, our trash can was not at the road because of the message I received. The couple of times I was able to ask the helper about it he would respond "I don't know bro, I don't text you". Nice WM. The fact that the prices continue to climb without additional services or notice is not ok. I cannot get ANYONE to answer the customer service line is also unacceptable. Moving forward if trash service is offered in our new area I will use Republic Services. At least they will call me back. read more

They don't pick up half the time and I have to drag my can across my yard to a different street if I expect it to get picked up. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

My property has used WM since they acquired GFL several years ago. I pay for 2-8 yard dumpsters to be service once per week. In the past 6 months, I have received emails from multiple account managers notifying me of weekly overages at a cost of $220 per overage. Their only solution is to increase pickup by adding another day in the week. I have explained multiple times that the dumpsters are not the same size as the previous dumpsters that were in place when we never had an overage problem. Today, I verified, they have replaced my 2-8 yard dumpsters that I pay for with 2-4 yard dumpsters causing these overages over the last 6 months. To date- I've spent nearly 9k with this company in the last month for their incompetence. Too large of a company that hires complete idiots for account managers. I'd recommend running from this company and I pray someone puts them out of business. read more

If I could leave 0 starts I would. my cousin and I live In hermitage off Debbie dr . They charged us every bill which we paid on time. They picked out recycle up a total of like 2 times in months. They kept skipping it even though we literally stuck it almost all the way out into the street because they kept missing it yet they kept charging us. Couldn't reach an actual person or speak with someone because everything is automated so we paid for services that we did not get. Then we decided to cancel because they missed it again and we were having to take our stuff to a dump. They told us they were going to charge us again and we needed to empty the bins which we had already paid them multiple times to empty. read more

They rarely show up to pick up my recyclables. I have to login and say 'missed pick up' almost every week. Just try calling them - their phone is ALWAYS busy. read more

if you live in the Nashville area do not use WM. The customer service is really bad. My bill has increased by $81 over the last 6 months. They cracked my container with their auto lift. I called for a replacement and they told me I would not be charged. just got my bill and they charged me $110 for a new one. I have been hung up on 3 times today and transferred 3 other times. They are charging some random Energy usage fee. It has went up by another $30 for the last quarter. Feel free to try to reach someone if you don't believe me. read more

Your own Website says No Pick up of trash on holidays and pick up on the Next day. So we didn't get trash pick up on Labor Day. No trash pick up the day after Labor Day and your Chatbot says that there will be no pick up for a week because our can wasn't out on Labor Day. We followed the guidance on your website. No way to talk to a human. Zero stars. Now we have to take trash to the dump, because the trash service we pay for is terrible. Find a different trash company. read more

Waste Management is the worst company for residential trash pickup. They don't even deserve the one star given. Most weeks I have to report a missed pickup. Their website will show a false time of pickup and then the excuses start. Time after time they will say the trashcan was not by the curb even if it was left out all night or for an entire week. When they finally come to pick up your trash, they leave the trashcan in the middle of the driveway so you are unable to get in or out without moving it first. The cost for service is almost 3x's what most other services in the area charge but they say they offer recycling services. Hard to pay that much more even with recycling when service is sketchy. read more

We pulled their services and found another trash removal service. WM never showed up.

Waste Management is a ripoff. They make you sign a contract, pay ahead each quarter, then when you move to a place that has city trash pick up they do not refund your unused funds. I paid for 3 months and am only using one month. NO refund on the two months they made me pay ahead. DO NOT USE WASTE MANAGEMENT. read more

Do not use this company for your trash service. It is terrible company and will charge you extra money without any reason. poor service and expensive cost. I want to give zero star to this company. This company is trash. read more

Waste management is the most aggravating company I've done business with. On hold for 20 minutes before just getting disconnected. Change service days making me have five more days of trash then they didn't show anyway causing me to have to take trash to the dump in my car. Stay away from this company. There is nothing good about them! read more

Our scheduled pick up day is Friday. We had our trash at the curb Thursday night, but it snowed and they were u able to pick up on Friday. Thinking they would come Monday we left it at the curb. They didn't come Monday, and we thought surely they would come the next day. I checked my email, nothing. No missed calls no letters in our mailbox. So I called them. The first time there was an hour long hold so I requested a call back. They called me back 30 minutes later. I answered and said "hello". They hung up. I called again and sat on hold for over an hour. They then informed me that our trash wouldn't be picked up until Friday. I explained that we would either need an extra pickup or be able to place our extra bags around the can. They said they would not schedule an extra pick up or pick up bags on the ground. I explained that this wouldn't work. We already pay for 2 cans and they are FULL by Friday. This means my kitchen is now overflowing with trash, and in turn means we would have to immediately refill our can Friday once it's dumped, which would result in our kitchen becoming full of trash again. A kitchen full of trash is not a revolving door that I should have to deal with when I'm paying for 2 cans weekly. I asked them what would their solution be then and they told me they didn't have a solution to give me. I asked to be connected to a manager and was hung up on. Now I'm on hold for another hour. read more

Waste Management in the Hermitage area is trash! We went 15 days without any trash pickup at all, and when we complained, they just sent a truck out to take our entire trash can without any notice at all. Leaving us with no way to get rid of trash. Really a crooked and unreliable company. Could not recommend less. Never picked up our trash on time. Always had to call and tell them to come get it. read more

Cancellation was a hassle. The online support directed me to call a number for cancellation. After being on hold for over an hour without success, I had to block payments through my credit card company. I then emailed WM, informing them that they wouldn't be able to charge me further, regardless of whether they canceled my service. Only then did they finally cancel it. I will not be using their services again. read more

Customer service is nonexistent!!! Even talking to a supervisor was not helpful. They charged my card extra for no reason... worst communication ever!!!! If I could do a negative rating I would! read more

Wish I could give this zero stars. Horrible service. People lie when they say they are coming to collect the residential trash. "We will be there early afternoon today" ....Yeah more three to four days later. We will bring a roll off for you.... to never show up or bring it :/ horrible service all around. Wish zero stars was a thing, but here is a 1 star I guess. Oh also want to talk to someone, here is an automated service that gets you NOWHERE. Just send us an email.... yeah to get no response and no service 0/100. read more

This is the worst residential waste management service. They don't show up, don't provide any notifications that they aren't showing up. When trash exceeds the bin, they won't pick it up. read more

Too bad zero stars isn't an option. I formerly had GFL trash service and never had an issue...not once. For some reason Waste Management took over GFL accounts and it's a joke. They missed my trash pick up last week. I called on the day it was missed and was told it would be picked up by 6:00. That never happened. I called the next day and was told the same thing...they'll pick it up by 6:00. The next day was the same thing. I have chat messages to support their lies each day saying it would be picked up. SIX days later and my trash still hasn't been picked up. I called to cancel service (since I'm not getting service anyway) and they said my trash wasn't picked up because it wasn't at the curb. What a crock! My trash has been out since Wednesday night a week ago...it was so annoying that one of my neighbors brought it back to behind my house because it was out there so long. He thought I was out of town. DO NOT use WM. Their customer service sucks as does their ability to pick up trash which is pretty much their only job! read more
