WM operates using unfair and predatory billing practices that appear designed to trap customers and punish them for trying to leave. Over five years, our commercial dumpster service increased from $78.76/month to $181.48 for the exact same service, while reliability declined. We dealt with missed pickups, repeated billing errors (including being charged for another business's container despite photo evidence), and hours lost to ineffective customer service. They even locked us into a contract renewal that we were unaware of and were forced to stick with WM for longer than we wanted even before this recent termination. When WM issued a price increase that required consent, we exercised our contractual right to terminate. WM then delayed removing their container for over seven weeks, despite their own contract requiring removal within days. During that delay, they continued billing, added late fees, and issued a "final" invoice including a $325 removal fee plus surcharges. WM claims container removal is an "additional service." It is not. Removal after termination is their contractual obligation. These charges only exist because WM failed to act on time. Their responses were boilerplate and refused to address missed deadlines or post-termination billing. This appears to be a systemic, bad-faith business model. Strongly recommend using smaller, local providers instead. They are more transparent, more affordable, and far more ethical. read more

The Comcast of trash service, WM silently and without warning raises bills every cycle. Not just by little amounts but exponential amounts. My bill tripled, and I was paying more than 3x the amount of any other local service. Then, you have to do the song and dance of calling to cancel, and then magically they can match the other guys prices? Surely that means your "rate increase" was unnecessary and just penalizing your loyal customers! } The service is paid in advance, but by the time you get your bill with your SURPRISE! rate increase, you can cancel long before it comes due but they'll charge you anyway. Just got my account debited even though ten days ago I cancelled autopay, deleted my payment information, cancelled my account and my bins have already long since been picked up. I'm happy most other companies I deal with don't operate like Waste Management. The world would be in way worse shape if that were the case. We have a commercial account with them for trash and recycle. They regularly miss pickups and trying to get a hold of anyone there, including our "account manager" is almost impossible. For all the problems we had with Gallegos (now Republic), I'm considering switching back. Edit: That was 2yrs ago. Scam company. Don't use them, they lock you into a Docu Signed contract that you are not aware of. Then you cant get out of it. They tell you to send certified letter, BUT, they don't ever acknowledge receipt of letter because they send a courier service to pick up their mail. Waste Management customer service is the absolute worst!!!!!! Hold time over an hour on more than one occasion. And the easy (not) instructions about how to start a chat online absolutely do not work. Experiencing that frustration while on hold was supremely aggravating. My last call to WM was to close my account because of this awful customer service. When I finally talked to someone (a friendly man, Frank?) he seemed helpful. Said I wouldn't be billed again and that he'd put an order in for the two containers to be picked up. Two weeks later, one container had still not been picked up. I DID get billed for 3 months service. When I called about that (about 40 minute wait-time), I found out that the order to pick up recycle bin had not gone through--female agent said she'd put that back in--that was about 10 days ago. Still here and frequently knocked over by the high winds. She had no idea when the bin would be retrieved. AND, unbelievably, when I asked when I should expect my refund of $142, she replied, "four to six weeks." Ridiculous. They should be paying me interest. Goodbye and good riddance. PS. Oh how I WISH I would have read reviews before signing up for their service. The drivers, especially recycling were horrible. There were times they didn't like a container and refused to pick it up only for it to blow trash around the neighborhood. I found a MUCH better service; Step Up, that is HALF the price, locally owned and they answer the phone. Now I'm fighting them about an invoice for picking up trash cans (over a week late) for $125. They will also extort you out of more money by not allowing you to login on the website so that you have to pay over the phone and a nonrefundable fee is added for paying over the phone. If there was a way to leave 0 or negative stars, I would. These people are the absolute worst. Trying to get someone local on the line is next to impossible. The national call center is designed to wear you down. They take your money, then repeatedly don't show up to pick up trash. Then they string you along, day after day, and then promise credits that never show up. You end up spending hours and hours on the phone, while they hold you to contracts and take your money in advance. Don't walk away - run. Better yet, don't get yourself caught in this spider's web of insanity. They do not give AF about you, and their phone service is designed to make you give up. Seriously, don't even get a quote. You'll hate yourself for the decision, if you were stupid enough to give them your business (like we did) for over 15 years. My recyclables set out after the curb they missed two pick up dates then they claimed they showed up. I spoke with someone that said they would be out on the 18th and make sure they have my things out there and they never showed up. So I was fed up with their lack of service and excuses and I switch companies. I called their customer service number and the woman says;first,I would not be refunded for the time that we had already paid for then, second,she says there would be a charge to pick up the containers. She claimed that this was all in the large print;I don't remember ever getting a paper agreement so I don't know how they can legally enforce this. I've had so many missed trash pickups when with WM it makes me wonder if trash collection is a side hustle instead of their main business. I moved homes about a year and a half ago and switched to WM (previous owner had them, it was easier not to swap bins), and I regret it. WM has been very bad about picking up trash. They miss pickups about 10% of the time. I live on a typical residential street in Fort Collins, nothing funny with the streets/driveways/homes. All my neighbors are either complaining about regularly missed pickups from WM or have switched away from WM due to inconsistent service. Asking around, the only people in the neighborhood with complaints are WM customers, and the people who use alternative companies have no problems at all. WM has a process to call for a missed pickup to come collect missed trash/recycling. Unfortunately, their dispatch seems to ignore these requests and it's purely lip-service. Any time I've had a missed pickup, I call in and am told "someone is en-route to pick up your trash today", and they never come. Rinse and repeat for 5+ days, it gets annoying. By the time it gets within a day or two of the next scheduled pickup day (and trash is starting to pile up and smell), the customer service reps switch away from letting you know they'll pick it up, and just tell you to wait until your next service date and they'll probably get the bins then. It seems protocol is to ignore problems until they *hopefully* go away. If you ask to cancel because of missed services, they will not provide a refund. At most they'll give you a WM credit for the service day(s) they missed. You may also be charged a "bin removal" fee if you cancel, so keep an eye out for any charges they try to pull on you. There are lots of other trash pickup services in town with very similar prices. I strongly recommend using one of them and avoiding WM at all costs. read more

If you forget to pay your bill, this company is quick to interrupt service and charges $25 to restore. But when they don't bother to show up to pick up trash, do you get anything? Hell no! They were supposed pick up trash Friday and didn't show up....for my entire general neighborhood. I called Saturday morning and the employee I spoke with guaranteed pick up by 7 pm. No show! Worst trash service ever. They would often delay pick up in the middle of summer due to 'weather' when there was nothing happening at all. So here we are the week after a holiday and they missed our pick up saying it will be delayed a full week....two weeks worth of trash after Thanksgiving! Like many other reviews, this company is horrible at timely removal of trash, recycling. They miss pick up days more than they remember. They cannot seem to get your account accurate and offer excuses for the lack of professional services. When I finally canceled, I had to stalk them for 3 weeks to come pick up their trash/recycle containers. They told me within 5 days they would pick them up. Calling them 2-3 times a week, they finally came by 22 days after my cancelation. I used them for 11 years and slowly, everyone in the neighborhood has also left Waste Management. Gallegos is the company I went with as the everyone else on the street is using them. One truck per week should be perfect to roll on through for trash. So far, they are timely and helpful. I wish I could rate zero. After three weeks of WM not picking up our trash, we called and cancelled to go to a better company. Now, we have been waiting almost a month for them to pick up their trash cans! Our 3 month payment is not being pro-rated AND they are charging us to pick up their trash cans...which they STILL have not done! I initially had NCD, and they were awesome. When the owners retired, they transferred us to Waste management. I just paid my bill through 8/31, and only need 2 more pickups. Instead of pro-rating, they want to charge me for the next 2 months in addition to a $75 removal fee. So basically, $133.50 for 2 pickups. Maybe this is standard for some, but with the smaller trash removal companies I had always dealt with, I never recieved those kinds of charges. Unbelievable to me...what a RIP off... read more

And today the driver harassed and yelled at my special needs son 11 year old who just likes watching the garbage trucks! If I could rate them as a ZERO star I would. I have lived in cities both smaller and larger than Fort Collins and have had nothing but easy with waste management services. This company is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with in particular their customer service. They wanted me to wait an entire week without a trash can, started a contract even though I requested them not to, and made me jump through hoops to fix their mistake. I have used their service for 25 years. We are an HOA of 56 homes, who contracts all our waste removal to one company to save our roads. Waste Management has missed pickups every time it snows, misses most holiday pickups. Don't let them push you into a Friday pickup. You are the first to slide off the truck. Called on Tuesday wondering when the are arriving. Was told that they would be arriving on the 9th. That was also bullshit. Firstly, a whole month went by and the recycling was never picked up despite several complaint calls to their customer service. We finally became so fed up that we decided to cancel our service. If I could give zero stars I would. This company is absolutely horrible at customer service and I have them every opportunity to fix their mistakes and they couldn't even do that! First they overcharged me $80 on my first bill and it took me 3 times of getting on the phone with them to get it fixed to what it should be. Then I tried to get my trash cans changed to the 64 gallon container so it would be less expensive and I spoke to Anisa who told me they would pick up the old ones and deliver the new ones the following Thursday. That Thursday they took my trash cans and did not deliver me any new ones so I had to call again. I spoke to Rand who said Anisa somehow put in the pickup but forgot about the delivery and he said they would deliver it the next Thursday. Then, they dropped off a trash can for me but no recycling even though they took both from me. So once again I got on the phone and spoke to a woman named Sylvia who assured me a recycling can would be delivered the next Thursday but they wouldn't pick up my recycling because they don't do lose recycling even though it was their fault I didn't have a can. That following Thursday rolled around and... you guessed it no recycling can. So now I've gone 4 weeks without recycling that I am paying for. No Ethics Waste Management is a very large corporation with no accountabliity to customers. My mother in law has had a commercial /over priced pick up for years. This past two months her garbage has been picked up sporadically. When I got the customer service people on the phone, they said they would roll out the red carpet to take care of the garbage that animals had finally gotten into. 6 phone calls later it was taken care of. We once again have problems with no pick up. Their office tells me that is impossible because their trucks have GPS pings and they can tell when trucks go to their destinations. I told them that may be the case, but the employees must be sitting in their trucks because garbage is not being picked up. The manager I spoke with had no other manager that he would allow me to speak with and I was not allowed to talk to anyone in billing. I told him he must be the iron gate and he continued to talk over me about wanting to keep our business. I told him I would rather pay the penalty and go with GALLEGOS, a local company, than deal with Waste Management which has poor workers and no ethics. If I could give a zero, I would. If you have a choice in who to hire for your waste removal and recycling needs, DO NOT USE Waste Management. They are a corporate conglomerate (Houston) who have missed our trash and/or recycling more than not over the last 18 months, and when you call to find out what happened and schedule a "courtesy pickup", they stall you for a few days and then tell you that "staffing and equipment" restrictions prevent them from coming till the next scheduled pickup. This has happened to us for the last month of missed pickups. THEY ARE AWFUL. In the annoying wait for a rep to talk to, they brag about 4,000 trucks and fast service and it's all BS. And it's hardly a "courtesy pickup". It's no courtesy at all. It's making up for their own mistake. Where do I begin with Waste Management. Let's start with the bait and switch. Quote you a low price for service (wow you think, so much cheaper than other local trash companies). You wonder why your neighbors seem to all use GSI - they must have money to burn you think. Then you get your bill with the 'add ons' from Waste Management and you realize you're the sucker who now is paying more for trash pickup. But wait, there's more, Waste Management misses a pickup. No problem, just call their customer service center and have them pick up the next day. So...for the next 5 days, you call their customer service center daily to find out why no pickup...only to be told that they only write the ticket, but the 'scheduler' sends the truck out for pickup. For 6 days now...no pickup. Apparently, the scheduler can't be bothered. So, if you're in the market for a root canal with no anesthesia and customer service as responsive as a rudderless ocean liner, then you might enjoy this company.
