Comes with a kitchenette which was handy for a quick dinner and an insane value add for the price. We didn't notice any pests and our room didn't smell odd. Parking lot wasn't overcrowded, and the front desk was friendly. Overall, the rooms aren't exactly a 5-star experience but we paid less than $90 for the night including the pet fee and for that I find little to complain about. This hotel seems great for long stays at a budget price. No complimentary breakfast but that wasn't an issue for us. Do note the walls aren't the thickest, so if your neighbor has a loud dog you might lose out on some sleep.

We told the gal on dutie that night and the best they could give us was a $15 credit. We were later told the next day by the manager Stefanie who was not help either that we could have canceled at no cost and went elsewhere which is what we should have done anyway as we had to actually shut the water off with the main valve going to the toilet because it would not stop running and we couldn't use it anyway. The ice maker also didn't work. The manager was only willing to give us $45 toward an over $100 hotel. I would not recommend staying here again and if you do have the person on staff that night go walk through the room with you to make sure everything is in working order before you pay because if not you will be stuck with a hotel cost and no help from the manager. Very very disapointed in the level or lack there of service provided....worst part is a family member recommended this place....to add to this the manager did recieve a video of the toilet, plus we were told by the gal on shift that there was issues with this room's toilet and was told it had been fixed and to rent the room. Clearly not the case unfortunetially.

When I arrived, I was charged an extra $7, the discounted amount that was not waived for prepay. I then checked into my room only to find hair covering the bottom of the pillow cases. I asked for new bedding which they said they had none available, so I was offered another room. The second room was infested with flies, as in I had half a dozen flies crawling on my body within a few minutes of sitting down and turning on the tv. The front desk clerk said that was probably the case with all the rooms, so I checked out. The clerk gave me the number to call to request a refund. I called that number 5 different times. Each time they documented my complaint, and I received a form mail stating a refund would not be issued. The last two of the five calls I spoke to a supervisor. When the first supervisor reviewed my complaint, I was told that I left because the AC didn't work. The second supervisor told me I left because the room wasn't clean. I asked to speak to someone above him, which he said there was no one above him that could handle a claim. I asked for callbacks and not form mails, but got form mails. I have since disputed the charges on my credit card. I never received nor is there a place on their website to leave a review. But make sure to read the reviews of this hotel before booking, and my suggestion would be to go elsewhere. Top to bottom the whole experience was extremely substandard.

We were given a room with a very well functioning heater and a less than functional air conditioner while it is 95 and up outside with the dew point at the same number. We were given a second room with a much better air conditioner. They had breakfast in the morning which was nice! Very friendly and hospitable staff. They're working hard. When they open officially, it'll be nice!

I truly do not understand all of the negative reviews about this hotel. We stayed here for a few…read moredays during our Dakotas vacation and could not have been more pleased with our stay. My top reason for booking here was for it's location being in the heart of downtown Rapid City, but also because of how nice it looked. I thought I was being bamboozled when I saw it was only $86 a night to book! I knew nothing prior to our stay that it was 'haunted' until seeing a section of the gift shop dedicated to American Horror Story, which prompted my Google search. The hotel definitely feels vintage but no weird occurrences, but maybe the ghosts here are just chill. ;) There is so much nearby that we were able to walk to, like restaurants, a barcade and even a comic book store. There is plenty of street parking as well as a parking garage across the street. We got lucky with a corner room and I felt like it was pretty spacious for the price. Not to mention great views of the Black Hills! Great choice of a place to stay when visiting Rapid City!

This is a nice enough historic hotel right in the middle of Rapid City…read more I stayed for 3 nights with my family. We had a one bedroom suite. The suite was very small, barely bigger than the king bed in the bedroom and the sofabed in the living room. The bathroom was pretty tiny, not big enough for 4 towels without hanging them on random doorknobs. There was no door between the two rooms. We arrived around 5PM, and our room was not ready yet. We were given two $15 vouchers for Starbucks to be used the next day only for the inconvenience. That was nice. When I made the reservation, I noted that there would be 4 of us in the room. When we got to the room, there were only 2 towels in the room, and there were no pillows for the sofabed. Also, the sofabed was brand new, and so the moving straps had not been removed, and the sofabed could not be opened. I had to call down to the front desk to bring scissors to open up the sofabed and to bring up more towels and pillows. The bed was comfortable, although the pillows were not great. The bathroom, as mentioned, was small with very little counter or shelf space. The shower/bath combo was cramped with a cloth curtain. Water pressure was not great, and even on the hottest setting, the water wasn't very warm and was very susceptible to getting colder. We were in town to visit the nearby sites, so we were out of the room most of the days. Imagine my surprise after returning that no housekeeping came after our first night. That was weird. After our second night, the housekeeper had come and made up the bedroom but not the living room (sofabed not made). She (she left a card with her name, Melaney) took the towels and again left only two clean towels. She did not take out the trash in any room. I was exhausted after a full day of driving and sightseeing, and the last thing I wanted to do was call down to the front desk to ask for two more towels and fresh sheets for the sofabed. It was very frustrating. Parking. The hotel itself only offers valet parking. There is a lot of street parking, and it is only $1/hour from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, $0.50/hour from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. There's an app, so you can remember your space # and pay from your phone in the morning. The location really is wonderful, and there are neat historical things about the hotel. The kids loved looking at all the pictures and the stuffed bison heads. The staff was friendly, even if the hotel wasn't run particularly well.
