I was referred to Dr. Wasser through my Gastroenterologist. Same hospital system and he knew of him.
I went to get a fill on my lapband. He was very inexperience with this - took 4 pokes to get into my port - a very bad thing for me - he could have damaged the tubing, the port or something else in there - like body parts! He had to dig around to get into the port and it was very painful! I am NOT a whimp, and this guy was a barbarian! I was shaking by the time he got in!
I did ask if he used lidacane (SP) or numbed it and he said no - it was such a quick thing he didn't need to. YES he did!
Anyway he did not withdraw anything out of my band to check to see how much was in it - he just put .4 cc's in! That does not sound like a lot, but I have a small 4cc band to begin with so that tends to be a big fill! He told me to drink 2 cups of water and wait 15 minutes before leaving.
I was very shaky and still upset by what had happened and went out and looked for the water, no one bothered to help me with any of this. I found a water cooler with the little paper cups, no more than 4 oz. when full!
I drank the first one and of course the cup fell apart. I got another one and sat down with it and sipped it. It was uncompfortable feeling, but I was not sure if it was from the needle sticks or what. I had never experienced this type of care/treatment in the 4 years I have had my band!
I left after 15 minutes. No one said a word to me.
By that night all I could do is slime! I could not get much of anythig down, just some sips of hot water or hot tea. I was miserable and could not even lay down without fluid coming out my nose, coughing it up and more slime.
The next day I called another Fill Doctor, I was not ever going back to that barbarian!
At the new doctor's office he was into my port with one stick, took out al the fluid to see how much was in my band and found that it was overfilled and it was no wonder I could not eat, drink or lay down!
Now that my band is empty and I have had an upper GI to make sure al is well with the band and my stomach, I can start out all over again with fills and TLC of my band.
Don't go to this guy! Stay far, far away! read more
