Instead of helping me address the underlying issues, he pushed prescription after prescription. One medication he insisted I continue taking even caused my eyes to move involuntarily--a terrifying side effect. When I asked about natural supplements or alternative remedies, he advised me against them and told me to stick with the prescriptions, no matter how badly they affected me. After spending years and thousands of dollars under his care, I was left worse off than when I started. I eventually discovered, through a DNA test I had to ask him to take on me, that my body was lacking something as simple as L-Methylfolate, a supplement that has made an incredible difference for me. Not once did Dr. Lockhart ever suggest testing for that. He put several labels on me in a one hour visit. I left having a list of diagnoses longer than my patience. But since he was a trusted psychiatrist in East Texas, I trusted his judgment. Every visit had to be paid in full up front, not working with your insurance whatsoever. He would often speak to me for 10-15 minutes tops and still continued to charge me for an hour long session. In my personal experience, Dr. Lockhart did not listen, did not support real healing, and prioritized medication over addressing trauma. I do not trust his care and I would caution others, especially trauma survivors, from seeking treatment with him.
