Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. My son has gone here for 3 years; first in a 50/50…read moreEnglish/Chinese environment, then in a Chinese immersion environment. We're very happy with the teachers he's had, with the friends he's made, with the extended hours of the school, etc. At first we didn't think he was learning much Chinese, but then his grandma came to live with us from China, and we realized he was just shy, and he could actually speak Chinese very well. Overall, great school, happy with his progress in English, math, Chinese. Happy with a structured curriculum that also gives him free time to choose his own passions.

I would give 0 star if I could. This is a fake Montessori school. It has no Montessori…read morecertification. Unlike other Montessori schools, kids play with toys in the afternoon instead of doing work. The classroom is full of Montessori material, but that's only for decoration. The kids have never touched some of the materials because teachers don't even know how to use them. Also, most teachers don't have certification either. The way they treat student is completely wrong. They dont comfort kids when they feel said. I feel like they don't actually care about their students and their feelings. The school is closed this year in March due to coronavirus. Parents send tons of emails asking for tuition refund and we receive no response. Not even to just acknowledge that they have received our email. The director refund 25% of tuition fee for April while the school is closed for the month. Some parents want to hold off their April payment until school reopens. They received a notice from school saying that if you don't pay for April, we will consider this as an act of withdrawing your child from school. The 2 month deposit would be gone. Their decision is very business driven to benefit their needs. They are still making money from us during this time period and use it to support school development(they are building a new campus) and teacher training program. Would a school without certification spend money on teacher's development? I doubt it.

My son having so much fun in this institute. Not only the staff taking good care for all the kids ,…read moremy son learn a lot from his teacher (Miss Elaine ) . I love they always give me detailed updates on how my son was doing everyday !

My 2 children have been coming to this school since March, 2011 for preschool and granted, I'm not…read moretoo sure how much Chinese they know since sometimes when I speak to them at home, they rarely respond back in Chinese....but there are times, when I'm "out" of the room, I do hear them speak to each other in a full sentence or two, so I'm feeling they are learning. Prior to enrolling them, we did look at other schools, such as Washington Int'l School (WIS) nearby Factoria, but because of the layout and how small the classrooms/playground was, no windows...we just felt it may hinder my kids mindset to want to learn. With APLS, the classrooms are a good size, plenty of windows, and their play area is large enough to accommodate the kids' playtime and freedom to run around. It's fenced and I do feel secure, not to mention the tuition here is cheaper than WIS The teachers and director, in my opinion have been informative and helpful, and I rarely felt any frustration or worry when leaving my kids there. Sure, in the beginning when my kids started school, the separation anxiety kicked in for them. There were tears and crying, but the teachers were firm, yet compassionate. And when my child told me their day and mentioned about a boy in their class hitting them, which was a kind of a misunderstanding on my child's part since they are the kind of kids who like their personal space and if a child is playing with them sometimes, and if that child touches them, both my kids protect each other, and they tell the other child not to "bother" their brother or sister. I wasn't too concerned, however I went ahead to email the teachers/director about the possible incident. The following school day, the director spoke to me and we discussed the situation, and she was helpful. The teacher spoke with me and was concerned if my daughter was hurt or not...overall, we all had a good understanding. The school itself, can be more organized a bit in certain ways, especially when they have families come together for an event at their school. I know it can be a bit hard since there are so many kids with their parents in a room at once and trying to get everyone's attention, and the activities that they come up with can be a bit scattered, so at times, I think there is that lack of communication or assertiveness, but I know they try. The curriculum that they have and the schedule that they go by, I think is helpful for the kids. Even though my children go just 2 days a week, and half days, to me..even if they don't learn an abundance amount of chinese, it's the fact that they are able to learn to socialize, learn good behavior, listen and follow rules, and get their exercise, is just as important to me at this stage...maybe eventually as they get older, I'll have them take actual chinese lessons so that they can fully learn the language, but for now, I'm very content with having them attend this school for preschool.

It had been nearly 10 years since I had spoken or studied French regularly, and I wanted to find someone who could help me brush up on my French. Geneviève was a great match to what I was looking for in a teacher--she is warm, easygoing, and patient. She tailored our lessons to my language level--I am an advanced speaker so our weekly meetings (via Zoom due to the pandemic) consisted of friendly chats like two friends catching up over coffee, but entirely in French. However, when I wanted more help with the usage of prepositions, Geneviève had exercises readily available. Additionally, she would also assign me a topic to write about that we would discuss the following week, and she was great at choosing subjects that interested me as well as pushed me to use different vocabulary, verb tenses/moods, varied sentence structures, etc. After a few months working with Geneviève on a weekly basis, I feel like my language recall and fluency have greatly improved, matching my language proficiency I had attained while living in France. Speaking regularly with a native speaker like Geneviève is the best way to improve your French, whether you're a beginner or advanced speaker, especially if you aren't able to be fully immersed in a French-speaking country.
