We have had kids at Hearn since 2010 and my kids have done great. We switched from a public school…read morewhen one of my kids was struggling and it was obvious to everyone, including the teacher, but I was told they would test her in 3rd grade. She was only in 1st. She had been in a preschool that had a curriculum for three years before kindergarten, so she should have been either doing as well or better than most kids...not struggling like she was. I was told by a friend about Hearn Academy, so I went and checked it out and was very impressed. While she was attending the summer program, that they used to have, they noticed that she wasn't up to grade level and struggling. So they contacted us and asked if they could test her. This was without telling them we felt she was struggling. It was determined that she had a learning problem and needed help with training her brain to think differently and the teachers allowed more time for her to get her stuff done in he way that worked for her. After only 4 years with an IEP (in the special education program) she graduated out and was put in honors classes. I can't even and don't want to imagine what could have happened had she gone another 2 years without anyone working with her and us so that we too knew how to help her. Then my other child was advanced and we didn't even know it. Once again in the summer program before she even started Kindergarten we received a call that they wanted to test her as well as they felt she was getting board and may need to be in Honors classes as well. Who knew there was honors for Kindergarten. It turned out they were correct she is now in seventh grade and has been in the honors classes since day one and doing fantastic. The teachers seem to take the time to understand the kids and not treat them all the same. Are there issues at the school of course, is every teacher there perfect of course not, are there things there that can be improved of course, but over all their motto holds true: Children Are Our Priority!

They said that we have a food shortage and they wouldn't provide any food. This is their job to provide food. why won't they do it? It is a failure school and if they don't like a child, they will stay hating him for the whole year and if they do hate a child, they don't post any pictures of that specific child. I have nothing but positive things to say about her and the staff at MCS. She took over the operation just as we hit Covid and the work they've put in to keep things running -- and then make capital improvements and prioritize grounds care on top of it -- I see the love they put into their place. As far as the schooling goes, I'm happy. Really enjoyed the small size, multi age classrooms, and their commitment to the Montessori Method. "I've got friends..." who tried Montessori schools elsewhere with poor results -- but none of their schools sounded like MCS at all. For my two cents, the environment MCS cultivates daily is safe, considerate, honest, and supportive. I'm on my only child so preschool research wasn't a major priority for me. But now, having seen my child grow through MCS and the instruction Ms Li provides-- both to students and staff -- I would recommend any parent consider this school. It's the real deal. I've been so impressed. And because I'm clearly a MCS fan, I'd like to add my own thoughts regarding the ownership transition. I didn't experience the old owner everyone loved. I did experience some parents choosing to leave the school, in part, because of the results of the change. I liked the school enough to stay here as long as i could. My thoughts today: (1) everyone seemed to like the decisions of the old owner; (2) he sold it to the owner; (3) today the new owner seems to have it under control and is putting her mark on it -- sounds like the old owner made another good decision. Since we started at MCS, I've seen a consistent child-first atmosphere from the staff that does not compromise on the child's experience. They've not kept around staff that did not fit. They have invested In the building and landscaping. And they even have a little monthly newsletter now. It's an awesome little school and you deal right with the operators. I love it. Plus Ms Li is really on it about the Montessori Method and she walks the talks. She's a real professional.

A common theme you will notice is "suddenly removed". They have 0 accountability and the solution…read moreis to always kick kids out with no notice, no conversation, no effort to have due process. This is not for extreme behavior, it's for developmentally appropriate struggles.

The GLC program was supposed to be an amazing place for our gifted kids. The only gifted magnet…read moreschool in Phoenix, and their promises were many. Unfortunately, they are not as equipped for 2e students as they profess to be. My 99.9% but also autistic son had a real struggle here, culminating in teacher bullying and intimidation after only 2 years. Our daughter is gifted w/ ADHD, and had an easier time socially, but as another 99.9% she was not appropriately challenged by the program either. Principal completely ignored bullying from both students and teachers until I made a huge Karen-level deal about it, and continued to back the teachers even with provided evidence. Lots of gaslighting and 'I never said that' even though I have a recording of the meeting type of stuff. We should have stuck with homeschool, they just couldn't handle our profoundly gifted kids.

I called more than twice in a 3 week period it was not untill I sent an e mail saying that "I will need the superintendent's contact info" that the principle DEB I think Mendez contacted me back within 5 mins. Beore she would speak to me she passed me to her "front desk receptionist" then I had to send in all my parential paperwork, and 2 more weeks later The principle gets to me after continuious calls. After our conversation she said 1."she was going to speak to someone about what I could do" 2. "She would follow up with a phone call to me the next day" 3."she will talk with the teacher and have the teacher contact me" and 4. She would pass me back to her receptionist to get my address and email so that I would recieve my childs grades and any school updates.Non of these things happened. NOT A SINGLE ONE. I gave her 1 week before calling back only to never hear from the PRINCIPLE DEB MENDEZ again. She ignored my email and calls and I was never even told my childs teachers name. THIS BEHAVIOR IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME AS A PARENT. A BIG CONCERN WAS THAT MY 6.YO DAUGHTER WAS TELLING ME THAT THE TEACHERS AID WAS YELLING AT HER WHEN NO ONE WAS AROUND AND I DIDNT EVEN GET TO EXPRESS MY CONCERNS AS A PARENT. And as a U.S Veteran I know as well as anyone reading this that this is unprofessional and just plain immoral. This principle isint doing her job that she is paid to do. In my line of work she would get replaced but i have no say in that matter. Needless to say my child has been withdrawn from a place that is run like a daycare that has thingd to hide. - ANTHONY. O

We were particularly interested in availability of varied schedule which they said they had. We stopped by unannounced and requested a tour. Entering the building, my husband commented it looked like a jail. No windows, minimal overhead lighting with white painted brick walls- no decorations. The carpet was worn and pulled on some areas. The infant room was appalling. It is literally in a large closet with 3 mini cribs lined up. No windows. It smelled of bleach. 2 babies were on the floor with a worker who was playing on her phone an didn't even bother to put the phone down, say a word or even look at us. We looked at the preschool room next. I watched a 4 year old walk around alone in a hallway the whole time we were touring the hall- about 10 minutes. No adults. He could have walked out the exit door at the end of the hall to the street of he wanted to. Before we left, I looked in to the infant room 1 more time to see the woman hadn't moved and was still on her phone. Eeeek no thank you to a jail like, janitor closet atmosphere an in attentive caretakers! And the search for child care continues...
