Heard this was a must-see tourist attraction in St. Louis, so I HAD to see for myself! This area…read morewas really run-down and seemed really sketchy; the roads seemed pretty destroyed and surrounding buildings were mostly obliterated or inhabited. So, I wouldn't recommend visiting at night, as you never know what you may encounter. The Grafitti wall was much more longer than I thought it would be! The vibrant colors from various artists that join together to create a complete picture was truly astounding. It's actually so inspiring to see so many different artists working together, incorporating their own unique styles to create one single piece of artwork. If I took a few minutes to really take in and admire each grafitti, finishing the wall would take HOURS! I was skeptical that this mural was worth the trip to an abandoned area, but I'm truly so glad that I came to see this beauty. If you're in Saint Louis, you have to come take a look!

I've seen several mural walls throughout the US and this is by far the most extensive one I've come across. Aside from the surprising length of this mural walls the quality and the meaning behind these works of art stood out to me the most. This wall is repainted every year during the Paint Louis festival on Labor Day weekend and it will definitely be worth checking out!

-- The Lovably Wild Aunt of St. Louis…read more If Soulard were a member of your family, she'd be that crazy aunt you can't help but adore -- the one who shows up already tipsy, tells stories that make your parents cringe, and might just leave with something from your mother's jewelry box. But here's the thing: you'd always ask if she's coming, because she's the life of the party. This neighborhood is pure character -- historic brick buildings, streets meant for wandering, and an endless lineup of bars, restaurants, and live music joints that feel like they've been here forever. Stroll the streets with a drink in hand, pop into a corner pub for some blues, or time your visit for one of the many events that take over the area. From Mardi Gras to market days, Soulard never fails to please the senses... even if it occasionally offends your nose. Honestly, Soulard should lean into its reputation even more -- imagine a Crazy Aunt Run in the spirit of the Mrs. Roper Romp or the Red Dress Run. The crowds are already here, so why not throw in a few more wild, themed events to keep the energy rolling year-round? It's gritty, it's charming, it's unpredictable -- and that's exactly why you'll want to keep coming back.

I can sum up St. Louis' oldest neighborhood in one word -- HOME…read more Since moving to the city five years ago, I've always gravitated to Soulard. From Saturday mornings wandering around the Market to late night bites and brews after Blues hockey games in one of the booths at International Tap House, Soulard has always felt like a warm security blanket to me. Of course today is the day that is most synonymous with Soulard, and walking around the neighborhood you are welcomed with splashes of purple, green and gold hanging from windows and balconies... All screaming "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!" Each year, Soulard hosts one of the most well attended parades in the United States. And every year, the neighborhood shows our country that St. Louis knows how to throw a party. Whether you're smashed against the barricades screaming for beads or enjoying one of the amazing events inside the Bud Light tent in Soulard Market park, this neighborhood welcomes party goers with open arms. But Mardi Gras parties aren't the only reason I love Soulard. There's so much history and character living along the streets within the boundaries of this picturesque neighborhood. Plaques adorn homes and businesses throughout Soulard giving passersby a quick lesson about the stories of the neighborhood's past. One of my personal favorite parts of Soulard is found at the corner of 13th and Pestalozzi Street. The iron eagle above the street screams St. Louis history. Most mornings you can snap a selfie with Anheuser-Busch's iconic dalmations and clydesdales! It feels like rubbing elbows with St. Louis royalty. The residents of Soulard have created one of the most tight knit communities in the entire city. Everyone says hello as they walk their pups and drink ice cold Budweisers all summer long. Golf carts blare music adding to the electric atmosphere each night. And neighbors regularly help one another like shoveling sidewalks and sharing meals. Soulard. I love you!

If you're in downtown St. Louis and craving something quick, creative, and seriously satisfying,…read moreSauce on the Side is a must-visit. Worth the wait! It has been packed with VEX Worlds. I ended up going two nights in a row, which should tell you everything you need to know. Night 1: The Fatty B This one lives up to its name--in the best way possible. Packed with flavor and perfectly balanced between savory and indulgent, every bite felt like comfort food done right. The crust was golden and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and held everything together without falling apart. It's rich, so come hungry. Night 2: Meat Me in St. Louis Had to come back and try one of their signature options, and it did not disappoint. Loaded with meats but not overwhelming, and the flavors all complemented each other really well. It's hearty, bold, and exactly what you'd expect from something with a name like that. What really stood out both nights was the consistency--fresh ingredients, quick service, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes it an easy go-to spot whether you're grabbing dinner solo or with a group of hungry robotics kids. Pro tip: Don't skip the dipping sauces--they take everything up another level. Two nights, two wins. I'd absolutely go back again.

They are all located at a historical or tourist points of interest within the metropolitan area. They each stand 4 feet tall and are festively decorated to match the location of the cake or just as a work of art designed to celebrate this big birthday. Mandie M. inspired me to search out and visit each and every cake. So I went to their website, printed out the list of cake locations and now I am on a mission. It is going to be a great way to experience new places in my hometown and visit some of my favorite haunts. Let me not lie, I have this wonderful app on my phone that tells me where all the cakes are, but instead I like to just stumble upon them (it makes it more exciting). When I see a cake I shout "cake" and then either run to the cake, pull over to get a picture with the cake, or sometimes I even have to turn around to get close to it. I want to get a picture with as many cakes as I can. I don't want just a picture of the cake, I have to be in the picture in order to prove to myself that I was there. The cool thing about these cakes is that they are all created by local artists and are scattered all around the city. They are colorful and they all tell a story! I know there are some blogs online where other people are taking this cake hunt more seriously than I am so if you are really interested in learning more about the cakes feel free to search for the blogs. I agree with Steven B. this is the best way to celebrate the "Quarter Millennial Birthday" of STL. Go have some fun and explore the city...you may even find a cake or two!
