My heart is BROKEN. I've been gone 20 years. I just moved back to StL. The charming personality of…read morethe CWE I grew up with is GONE! The neighborhood was salvaged (in the 60s and 70s) by the LGBT community (30 + years ago) and made it a very desirable place to live and hang out. It's ALL gone! It's now over priced with straight Yuppie and now 'gentrified'. It breaks my heart. But most investors know after the gay community fixes up a suffering neighborhood, it's prime for a takeover. That means the original grand buildings will be torn down or 'fixed' to where the old neighborhood vibe is totally GONE. My heart is broken.

Also many of my go-to frequents are here:Evangeline's, Dressel's Pub and Scottish Arms. There is soo much to do and see in this part of town, all in walking distance. You have countless amazing eateries, shops, art galleries, wine galleries, clubs and grocery stores. You are covered as far as hospitals and hotels. I have to say the parking is a challenge sometimes, so I go at what I consider optune times for me and what I'm trying to achieve. They have an amazing annual Halloween party. The homes are beautiful and there are plenty of restaurants with great patio seating that your fur-baby can go to dinner with you. The CWE offers such an amazing variety of activities there is something for everyone.

-- The Lovably Wild Aunt of St. Louis…read more If Soulard were a member of your family, she'd be that crazy aunt you can't help but adore -- the one who shows up already tipsy, tells stories that make your parents cringe, and might just leave with something from your mother's jewelry box. But here's the thing: you'd always ask if she's coming, because she's the life of the party. This neighborhood is pure character -- historic brick buildings, streets meant for wandering, and an endless lineup of bars, restaurants, and live music joints that feel like they've been here forever. Stroll the streets with a drink in hand, pop into a corner pub for some blues, or time your visit for one of the many events that take over the area. From Mardi Gras to market days, Soulard never fails to please the senses... even if it occasionally offends your nose. Honestly, Soulard should lean into its reputation even more -- imagine a Crazy Aunt Run in the spirit of the Mrs. Roper Romp or the Red Dress Run. The crowds are already here, so why not throw in a few more wild, themed events to keep the energy rolling year-round? It's gritty, it's charming, it's unpredictable -- and that's exactly why you'll want to keep coming back.

I can sum up St. Louis' oldest neighborhood in one word -- HOME…read more Since moving to the city five years ago, I've always gravitated to Soulard. From Saturday mornings wandering around the Market to late night bites and brews after Blues hockey games in one of the booths at International Tap House, Soulard has always felt like a warm security blanket to me. Of course today is the day that is most synonymous with Soulard, and walking around the neighborhood you are welcomed with splashes of purple, green and gold hanging from windows and balconies... All screaming "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!" Each year, Soulard hosts one of the most well attended parades in the United States. And every year, the neighborhood shows our country that St. Louis knows how to throw a party. Whether you're smashed against the barricades screaming for beads or enjoying one of the amazing events inside the Bud Light tent in Soulard Market park, this neighborhood welcomes party goers with open arms. But Mardi Gras parties aren't the only reason I love Soulard. There's so much history and character living along the streets within the boundaries of this picturesque neighborhood. Plaques adorn homes and businesses throughout Soulard giving passersby a quick lesson about the stories of the neighborhood's past. One of my personal favorite parts of Soulard is found at the corner of 13th and Pestalozzi Street. The iron eagle above the street screams St. Louis history. Most mornings you can snap a selfie with Anheuser-Busch's iconic dalmations and clydesdales! It feels like rubbing elbows with St. Louis royalty. The residents of Soulard have created one of the most tight knit communities in the entire city. Everyone says hello as they walk their pups and drink ice cold Budweisers all summer long. Golf carts blare music adding to the electric atmosphere each night. And neighbors regularly help one another like shoveling sidewalks and sharing meals. Soulard. I love you!

Respectable Americanized-Italian restaurant on The Hill…read more.. I was in town for work with the ole ball and chain, and we met some friends at MOTH for dinner on a Friday... Quint lil restaurant nestled in the middle of the STL Italian district. The restaurant looks like a big Italian family room and smelled like my G-Ma's kitchen. The staff super super friendly and accommodating. As for the food, it was solid Italian but I wouldn't call it "authentic", but more Americanized Italian fare (albeit the toasted raviolis were as good as advertised). We really like that the staff didn't rush you... Good pacing with dinner and no pushiness to turn tables. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the price... $250 for 4 people is expensive regardless of it being STL. While I still contend Gian-Tony's is the best Italian restaurant OTH, MOTH was good and offers an enjoyable dinner experience with friends and family... It's easy to see why they've been a successful family run business for so many years.

The sauce had the perfect consistency... creamy, rich, and with just the right amount of kick. I skipped the peas, added a meatball and paired it with the recommended Koha Sauvignon Blanc. Easily the best vodka sauce I've had in St. Louis! Already dreaming of the day we meet again. We sat on the patio and had wonderful service with Connor. Music was great, bread and oil was fantastic and they were able to seat us and get our food out to us so quickly even at 7 pm on a Wednesday.

These days, a lot…read moreof places make you pay for bread, which is disheartening, so this was a plus anyway that they offered us bread, albeit cold. We ordered a bottle of Amarone and enjoyed it with the whole meal. For starters, we ordered the polenta with Italian sausage between the two of us. We could only exclaim about how creamy the polenta was. It was extremely hearty, with some vegetables and thinly sliced Italian sausage. I'm glad that the Italian sausage was thinly sliced because otherwise it would have been overpowering for my palette. The next dish that my daughter had was technically a Caprese salad, which was tomato and mozzarella. She didn't like the red onion, but had asked for balsamic vinegar on the side, which she added to the salad, and when I tried the balsamic vinegar, even I realized that it is one of the best that I have ever had. My daughter went with the gnocchi, and said that it was among the best that she had ever had. We shared a veal and mushroom risotto between the two of us, and it was perfectly moist, the veal was not overpowering, and it was perfectly cooked. The veal just simply melted in the mouth. My osso buco came on a saffron risotto, and the osso buco was fantastic, tender, and simply delightful. I enjoyed the marrow very much, but I almost wished that the dish came with polenta, not risotto. However, it was still magnificent. We took dessert to go, because we couldn't finish everything at all. However, this is definitely not going to be the last time we come here. The ambience was fantastic, very intimate, darkly lit, but still noisy, with people having fun here. Our service was top of the line, with great humor. Give this place a try. You won't be upset, neither will you regret it. Our compliments to the chef, staff, and owner. What a home run.

The restaurant looked amazing, and I was somewhat surprised that they served their regular menu as opposed to a limited menu as many places do on a holiday. My daughter and I both had the salmon meal while her friend tried a special, grouper. My salmon filet was perfectly done and the pasta and fresh vegetables it was served on was fantastic. Tori had an aperol spritz and it was delicious while I stayed with a soft drink so nothing to share there. Both of them enjoyed their entrees commenting on freshness and flavor. For dessert they selected cannellonis and I had a slice of their house made cheesecake and a cup of coffee. Dessert was just as delicious as the entrees were. It is very costly but for a white table cloth dinner to celebrate both a birthday and NYE it was amazing. The service was splendid, our server was a beautiful young lady with suggestions on selections, the bussers were busy seemingly there waiting for you to finish so that they could remove your plate. I hope to return soon on a dinner date that with a lady I would like to impress.
