They recommended a walking path to take to the Museum or Art and knew so much about the history of the area. Walking up to it, I thought that it was just a clever netting-shaped artwork but that's the lattice for all the ivy and climbing plants to enjoy. So far, not much growth but come back in a few years. There are lights in the lattice and there is a brick area that will be great for an outdoor dining area. I look forward to seeing it expand. It is in the heart of the hill. Benches surround the fountain honoring famous local celebrities. This location is near St. Ambrose Catholic Church, The new restaurant Marconi Mercado and Milo's tavern a local watering hole. I found a bench honoring the mailman of the Hill Roland DiGregario . My father (Gene) was a great friend of Mr. DiGregario and spoke highly of him. My father and brother both were mailman. My brother later had a route on the Hill. So this bench opened up a few pleasant childhood memories I relish. After leaving, there is a gelato shop around the block with a great looking patio to enjoy. Visit the Hill for a great meal, beer, or reflect over a gelato.

I've been here twice with my small pug, and it's a fantastic experience every time. The small dog park here is a standout--it seems to have more dogs compared to KC, which is great for socializing smaller pups. Even though my pug is shy and not always the friendliest, the layout and staff's care help him feel at ease and build his confidence. The vibe is just as fun as KC, with excellent food and drinks to enjoy while your dog plays. After my visits to both locations, getting the membership was a no-brainer. Whether you're in St. Louis or Kansas City, Bar K is an absolute must for dog lovers!

This event is a shot in the arm for this areas uniquely neighborhood-esque business district. The residents have parties, picnics, etc. the restaurants have tents, beer gardens, music, and food. The local church has Irish dancing performances and the weather tends to cooperate most years. A good time is had by all. I tend to spend the first half of the day on or around Tamm (the parade route, restaurants, bars, and house parties). As the crowd gets younger, denser, and a wee bit drunk around the Clayton/Tamm corridor, I generally hike it with my group to lower Dogtown, where the restaurants have outdoor seating, live music, ample potties, etc. Since the Dogtown event falls on St. Patrick's Day and rarely falls on the weekend, there is some level of crowd control, which I like. It's still crowded, with lots of heavy drinking. SO, I do have to ask some of the folks with young kids WHY they hang around for hours after the parade is over. Once it becomes a big party, it is time to take the kiddos home. Seriously!!

But if you are looking for authentic, local Irish revelry, then this is for you! Always held on March 17, no matter what day of the week it falls on or what kind of weather we're experiencing, this parade consists mostly of flatbed pickup trucks, fire engines and groups of pedestrians. There are also some adorable little Irish dancer girls, Irish wolfhounds and bagpipe players spread out throughout the parade as well. One thing you will notice right away is that everyone in the parade and those attending the parade are either related, neighbors or send their kids to the same school. Normally this kind of small town mentality freaks me out, but once a year it comes across relatively quaint. If you are going to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Dogtown, be sure to get there early, find a good spot in front (so you can catch good beads), and make sure you have a DD to pick you up!

Summers Port is a great place for all ages! They have so much to offer! Awesome swimming pool,…read moretennis courts, basketball court, playground, lots of outdoor seating and covered eating area. My kids also love the open field where they play soccer and baseball. We appreciate that they have so many certified lifeguards on during the day. I always feel safe with my kiddos. Not only do they have a large pool, they have a kiddie area with shaded seating too. This is our second year at the club and we have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful families! It is a great camaraderie with this group! My son also joined the swim team and loved it! So much so, he is joining the dive team this year too (both participate in SWISA). So many opportunities at the pool. Friendly faces, well managed place, family friendly prices (even the concession stand is cheap), and clean atmosphere! If you haven't looked into this swim club, you are missing out!
