You know going in here that the quality probably isn't going to be good. Straight away it violates two rules of good dining: 1) Pan anything is usually pretty poor, 2) A huge menu that doesn't make any choices is probably going to suffer. We ordered one of the set menus. As far as I could tell, this place dedicated to "sticks" and "sushi" had no "tuna" or "negima" on the menu at all which is pretty weird to start but we definitely tried to find them. Instead, salmon seemed to be the fish of choice and all of the ala carte skewers were at exorbitant prices; note that a much more delicious yakitori anything in Japan costs about 100-200 yen, not 1500 yen, but ok. Instead of beloved tuna we received red pepper nigiri as part of our set menu - what? There was a chicken roll that was kind of like a grilled chicken salad in rice paper that was OK. Etc. The quality of the fish in the nigiri wasn't bad but they have no idea how to make sushi rice here so I would avoid nigiri all together and just stick to sashimi if you're going to order from the sushi side of the menu. Oh and my 350ml bottle of junmai cost 49£, which was pretty typical for the sake prices here. So yeah, if you're visiting from the States set your sights on "Suburb Mall Court Fusion" with a bill around 200 bucks and you'll have an idea of what you're in for. Avoid it.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone and please be sure this business survives because it is magic in the forest.

Until now I used to think the best sushi I'd ever have was in my former hometown of NYC. Then I…read moretook a side trip to Japan which was pretty impressive. It sparked a search for THE sushi place to go to around the city. I walked past this place while I was getting lost on my lunch break. I made a note of it and told myself I'd go in sometime, but it was like some sort of Harry Potter cross dimensional place that I couldn't find, It's well hidden but it's an absolute gem. It's a typical conveyor belt sushi setup. With colour coded plates. So far so good. What strikes me is the quality of the stuff going past. None of your dry, cold rice endlessly circling a glum, flourescent table a la Yo! Sushi. This is the good stuff. There is a great selection and it's not all safe bets (tuna or salmon) there's a good mix of vegetarian, adventurous and traditional items. Plus they have nailed the warm rice/ crisp nori in the way that no other place I have been to in London. Probably because they are making the sushi right in front of you. In fact if you don't see what you like, you can request it. Service is prompt, friendly, polite and never intrusive. This is my favourite sushi spot in London, I've taken friends and converted cynics. It's authentic enough to have the traditional Japanese desserts too. Not too expensive, an absolute bargain for what you get. 10/10.

I've been here a few times at lunch and am slightly surprised by the first comment…read more Being a few minutes from Liverpool Street station means there is no shortage of hungry people at lunchtime - the queues in most of the cafes, shops and restaurants at lunchtime are testament to this. The odd thing is that Habibi is never busy, it's always a bit quiet. I wondered why so I paid a couple of visits. There is a wide selection of sushi available to eat in or take away. The thing is, the place doesn't feel as clean as it should be. The lids covering the sushi often seems a little musty and if an item is too large for the plate (typically the stuff on skewers) it drags across the display of soft drinks in the middle (check out all the missing pain on the cans!) To add to this general feeling of uncleanliness, there were a lot of little flies in the restaurant which would occasionally land on the uncovered plates on the conveyor belt. It seems the electric fly catcher, situated right next to the Miso soup pot, isn't doing its job well enough. Given the place has been so quiet on my few visits, the staff weren't really that attentive and you had to shout to get their attention. I did notice that a few people came in for takeaways during my lunches. I felt a bit sorry for them, as during my second visit the chef was taking unsold sushi from the plates and boxing this up for takeaway. It could well be that both my visits were uncharacteristic and believe me, in a world of homogenised dining brands such as Yo!, I strongly want to support the independent restaurateur, but I think they need to smarten their act if I'm to ever consider going back.

I wish they improve on their service because the food is yummy most times.. Where it really falls down is the absolutely dreadful customer service. I ordered salmon skin futomaki and received the salmon futomaki. I called to explain that there was a mix up. It would be nice if they came back but all I was really expecting was 1) an apology and 2) "don't worry next time you order we will send you a salmon skin futomaki on the house." This I did not get. Instead I got some character who claimed his name was "Miguel" telling me that I was sent the more expensive option and that most people prefer the salmon to the salmon skin anyway. To say I was shocked at his nonchalance and general flippant attitude would be an understatement. He then said the salmon skin usually isn't available. If someone is making an order isn't it general etiquette if you don't have something on the menu to let them know? Needless to say I didn't get an apology, refund or anything. I will never ever order from Sushi World again. Staff attitude sucks big time. Many other establishments in the area that actually value customers.

Unfortunately, before I can get to the actual review of the food, I have to point out that it took about an hour for us to receive anything, and it was clear the kitchen had forgotten our order. That's not a critical failure in my mind, as long as it's properly addressed. However, while the food eventually came after we flagged down multiple waiters, there was never an apology or acknowledgement that they had forgotten. Disappointing. However, the food itself was good. The Udon soup with tempura was tasty, and the tempura was an interesting selection, all perfectly fried. The salmon and avocado hand roll was also tasty, and the fish tasted fresh. The tomago roll was also yummy. The decor is very sleek, with black and blue tones throughout. The restaurant was completely full when we were there on a Saturday night, so you may want to make a reservation. Overall, a decent choice for Japanese in Deptford, and right by the DLR. However, don't be surprised to wait a while for your food.

The service was mediocre; staff were not very attentive. I had chirashi don which had very little fish and toppings compared to what I've had in other Japanese restaurants and also in Japan. A lot of the appetizers were out of stock despite it being a quiet Monday evening with hardly any other customers. Overall inefficient service and poor quality food for a Japanese restaurant.
