Great Polish deli with lots of selection - kielbasa, sauerkraut, fresh perogies, breads, Polish grocery items etc. Worth the trip from JC

Benanti's Italian Delicatessen - I asked him to make me a delicious Italian sandwich and they did not disappoint

My large "Charlie's special" hero was freshly made and more than passable. However, even if my entire order had been served by Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra, I would still be smarting from "Benanti's sticker shock!" Perhaps I was hypnotized by Charlie's gregarious, old world charm? You see, unlike almost ever other deli in America, Benanti's has no visible menu or sign, anywhere to be seen! And after wrapping up the order, which also included one Arizona Iced Tea; and a box of supposedly "freshly baked" Italian cookies, I whipped out my trusty Chase Credit Card only to be told that it was "cash only!" Again, no signs, anywhere. Maybe it was a mistake to pluck three $20 bills from the small wad of cash in my pants pocket. When I asked Charlie how much for everything, he replied $58, without hesitation. I quickly re-tabulated my little lunch order. The number still sounded like an awful lot, all things considered. When I questioned whether the # was correct, Charlie quickly did a pencil calculation on a shopping bag, and reconfirmed the aforementioned total. Like an idiot, I quickly gave him three 20's, accepted my $2 change, and exited the premises, never again to return!!! The End!

There are many reasons why I really like this place…read more It could be the wonderful staff who greet you warmly every time and are always helpful. Maybe it's the delicious bagels and the variety of yummy cream cheeses. It might be their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches or the old-school East Coast charm. If you're in Bayonne, do yourself a favor and stop by for a bagel or two. And if you live in the area, take home half a dozen and a tub of cream cheese to enjoy at home.

I was impressed by the options they had for vegan cream cheese spreads. It's a cute little place, a lot of people there for pick up orders. All the staff were friendly and the line to order moved quick. We ended up sitting along the wall, there are a couple of stools there. I split an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese with my husband. $5. The cream cheese was soft, creamy and had just the right amount of scallions on it. It was also just the right proportion of cream cheese to bagel ratio. The bagel itself was good but nothing amazing, I wish it was a little more doughy and chewy than it was. It was also a bit bland. I would def come back and try some of their other cream cheeses like strawberry or blueberry to even an egg and cheese sandwich.
