The entrance was difficult to find (several locked doors). As we entered through the door, the smell hit us immediately. The entire hallway, bar area, bowling area, and banquet area smelled like a musty and moldy basement. The entire place was extremely dated. Most of us had to wear our jackets the entire time because it was so cold down there. The bowling alley area is old, broken, and just plain horrible. $20/hr for a lane, not including shoe rental. You have to write down your own score, as there aren't screens to display anything. There weren't proper dots on the floor to help you figure out where to stand, so you kind of had to guess where to stand to prepare to throw your ball. The lanes did not appear to be properly maintained, as the bowling balls would take funny curves when thrown. Bowling balls would constantly get stuck and have to be retrieved by then gentleman who worked there. Most of the bowling ball returns would trap the ball (they were covered in duct tape and the wheel would stop spinning), and it would take the next ball crashing into it to get it unwedged. The balls themselves were in terrible condition, with large dents and chips in them. We have a 3 year old, and needed a lighter ball and bumpers. They did not have balls for smaller children, so it was near impossible for my son to push the ball down the lane himself. The bumpers were merely long pieces of soft Styrofoam that were set in the gutters, and not flush with the lane. This caused balls to become stuck in the gutter/bumpers and the ball needing to be retrieved. It really was a shame that much of our paid time was spent fixing constant problems. The soda guns were having problems, and our first couple of drinks were highly concentrated with syrup. My daughter ordered two waters, and both had unknown speckles in the bottom and in the ice. All-in-all, the few staff members were friendly enough, although not very engaging. I do not recommend this place, and will not return.

Nestled up in McHenry County on Elizabeth Lake this nature preserve has 2 miles of trails with views of the surrounding 345 acres. I took a photo of the map but their website also has a nice one posted there as well. I wish the trails went all the way around the lake but due to the makeup of the ground/marshy area, preservation efforts, etc. the trails are all on one side of the preserve. It's a lovely setting with a large variety of wildflowers, prairie grasses, plants & trees to take in and the songbirds were in full effect on our visit. There are no restroom facilities here so plan accordingly. The trails are a mowed path with a few footbridges so if it has rained recently the paths could be wet/muddy, especially in the shady areas. We had to turn back twice due to areas that were too wet/muddy to get through in the footwear we had on but would have been doable with hiking footwear. We still enjoyed most of the trail with me in my sandals. There is seating near the parking lot at the overlook/entrance area but no other benches along the trails...but with just 2 miles of trails not really necessary for most.

Beware of ticks in the warmer months. The grasses usually prevent it from getting too muddy. The trail is pretty well maintained and the map is available at the beginning of the trail so you can choose your loop.

Time to get my ace moving again and I'm so glad I finally checked out Fly Girl…read more It's a smallish studio but they offer different classes--Zumba, Booty Boot Camp, Cardio Dance, Strength conditioning, even kids zumba classes--just check out their website for class times. I come mainly for Zumba, it's fun shaking out the blahs and getting some cardio exercise in. And if you're not smiling by the end of class, then you're doing something wrong. I've been to Kymberlee's and Tyler/Zac's class. Kymberlee has been in fitness for-ever, a major player for Bally's and Bull's Cheerleader. I have known her for years and her personality really shows when she's teaching the class. Tyler/Zac's class is also a lot of fun...quite different for me to have two instructors during class, but it helps when the routines are new and you get two different views to follow. The music is sure to get you dancing. Like I said, it's a smaller studio, but I like the feel to it, you get to chat with the instructors and they really try to get to know you too. Payment wise, they offer drop-ins, punch cards or unlimited passes per month. Totally worth the price of admission. Great place to channel your inner Fly Girl!

Well, once you look beyond the marketing scheme of it all, you'll see it for what it is : cliquey, disingenuous, simply a ploy -- headed by women who have no real lives and no friends in real life so they create their own little high school bubble. "Be yourself, judgement free" -- it is anything BUT as many of them routinely make fun of a girl who is a bit rhythmically off beat and out there. It's really all about the so called "cool girls" here ; some see this and do not play into it but many perpetuate it by willingly participating or failing to say / do anything to the contrary. In my opinion, most of them are minions of the owner, they don't think for themselves ; so take these "follower" reviews with a grain of salt. You may feel as if you have found a true gem, a feel good gym, and you are more than a walking dollar sign here but alas, it simply boils down to the almighty dollar. Do yourself a favor and continue to research and find an establishment that actually practices what they PREACH.
