The service here is outstanding... perhaps the best out there as they don't come across as I know everything and your just a newbe. The place can be a bit hard to find as it's in this very tiny strip mall and you figure a gun range has to be somewhat big to accommodate the ranges. Right? Well, here the entire store and range is underground, so the entrance is literally nothing but a door which leads directly to a set of steps going down. The store and range certainly show their age and have been well used. But, from a business perspective this apparently keeps the overhead low as I find the prices here very reasonable! As for the range, the check in process here is perhaps the easiest of all ranges in the area. These guys are very accommodating and I like that fact that they encourage openly on bringing your kids along. The range itself is cramped and very loud. Okay, yea I know we are shooting off guns here and things just get loud, but here, the sounds really reverberate and I can really feel the shock wave at times when a .357 or higher is being used. I don't get this feeling at other ranges. The range can also get a little smokey at times. Despite these conditions, I really do like coming here as I get the feeling of being welcomed and I just feel very comfortable at these ranges. Some of my tightest patterns have been shot here and I think it has to do that I'm very relaxed when coming to this range. If you can, it seems that during the week days, just at opening time, the ranges is generally not as packed and I find it a great time to come.

We quickly planned more trips and, after a few more trips, we also realized we wanted to feel more comfortable, capable, and confident on horses, especially while trotting and loping. I searched exhaustively around the Chicago area for western style riding lessons and discovered Timmermann's Ranch & Saddle Shop. Timmermann's has a warm, family-owned culture that we felt the moment we walked in. They clearly have a passion for horses and for riders. From the very first lesson, the instructors were patient, encouraging, and really skilled at helping us improve without ever feeling overwhelmed. Our confidence has grown so quickly --both in lessons and on our latest dude ranch trip. What started as a short-term plan has turned into seven months of ongoing lessons, which we love and we wouldn't have it any other way.

They know how to treat the horses and know how to treat their customers. They genuinely care for both. They normally have a pretty wide variety of horses for sale and have a great eye when it comes to matching horse and rider. Not interested in buying? They will match you up with one of many lesson horses. While primarily a western barn they do have instructors who are more than competent teaching English techniques. There is also a saddle shop on the property that has tack and supplies for your horse along with an ample supply of hats, boots and clothing for riding or casual wear. Stop by and check out the place. You won't be sorry that you did. You can even speak with the founder of the place who still lives on the property. A+ people and an A+ business.

As you drive onto the property it has the feel of a camp ground but you can see houses lined along the sides of the property. There is a nice pond on the property, 2 outhouses, and a main cabin like lodge. When you enter the lodge you find yourself being transported back many years ago to a boys club type atmosphere. The place was packed with people waiting around. I through they were all waiting for a lane to open up but I soon realized that they were just hanging out, socializing and playing card games on old wooden tables and benches. Once you purchase a round of trapshooting, head out and get your gear ready as your name is called rather quickly. Walk over to the lane you are assigned to and once all 5 people are ready then the first person yells "pull" and the automated machine throws a clay pigeon out. Go down the line and repeat 5 times. Then each person rotates to the next station/different position. Each person will get to shoot at 25 clay pigeons. I had a great time and can't wait to come back.

Turnout is very very limited, and the pastures they used were small. Communication was hard with owners/trainer, often with conflicting information. My horse was given medication without my permission. Grooms are fabulous but seem really tired and rely heavily on tips, which is fine, but it is difficult when you are paying a pretty penny for board. Great barn for shows but not for horsemanship. However, beware- if you desire or request a different program or plan for you and your horse other than what the Resident trainer sees fit: be prepared for public admonishment, nasty comments, texts, emails and your horse being borderline neglected (i.e. not turned out daily, nor supplements given as directed). Further, if you propose to speak to the owner regarding any concerns, be prepared to receive a cursory response via email but do not expect any resolution of your matter. All this for $1200.00 per month. Training rides are mandatory and expensive. If one chooses to board here, good luck; you will appear to be spending time in a brass finials gilded cage--but it will be one that hasn't been cleaned in a very long time.
