If they didn't cost so much, I'd love to have some dotted around the kitchen. Most people come here for the salads. It's a sort of pick'n'mix system, but they're filled by the staff, so you know nobody's dropped a plaster in or had a chew on something and put it back. They taste really good and you can get things like goats cheese, rice, tomatoes, salsa, lentils and various beans. They do tofu and it's mostly very vegetarian-friendly. The problem comes with the cost and the customer service. It's £3.45 for a smaller salad and around £5 for a larger one. Watch out though: the staff seem to be under strict orders not to fill the containers up and time and time again you come away with only a half-full container. Sometimes they're even made to weight it, in case they actually give anything away for a reasonable price! It's not always the friendliest service either. It's a shame, because it really is very tasty, but for nearly £5 I'd get a pub meal or buy something really nice from Marks and Spencer or Sainsburys.

The coffee was average but the service was totally random, cups arrived on the table, but had to search around for sugar bowls, no mention of where the spoons were and so on. Croissant took ages to warm up and reached us by the time we had almost finished our coffee. There was a lot of running around and opening and closing doors, but the overall impression of service was unprofessional, not that one expects silver service, but we are really just talking basic here. In fact, the visit here was almost literally the icing on the cake... Amongst the blueberry cheesecake, the cake display featured other calorie bombs like chocolate torte, meringue cake or carrot cake - all of which looked temptingly delicious. And believe me: amongst the four of us we tried quite a few of them! But Rumsey's Chocolaterie not only offers delicious cakes and teas, but while you are sitting at the table, you can actually witness how the pastry chefs are preparing truffels and pralines: in fact, I could almost hear the light cracking when they rolled the moist chocolate balls in a tray full of crispy coatings! I opted for an unbaked chocolate cake which consisted of a mixture of crushed digestive biscuits and fruit covered with a top layer of chocolate. It was absolutely delicious. The high tea looked really good. Unfortunately, there was no space inside the cafe, so we had to settle for takeaway and look for another place to grab some tea.
