Ward's is a regional chain of fast food restaurants that I believe are only in Mississippi. They have been around since 1978, so they obviously have their fan base. I have driven by this location multiple times and today, I finally stopped in The place has definitely seen better days. Even for a fast food place, the place could look better. There is no sign on the building, but they do have a sign by the street. The inside was worn, though relatively clean. I ordered a "Little One," which was basically a chili cheeseburger and a chili dog. The total was just over seven dollars. Both were definitely fast food and not very well executed fast food. Between the two, the burger was the better choice, but both were pretty weal. The service was okay, but not outgoing or friendly. All in all, I will give it three stars, though in a way, three stars is kind of upgrading. I just did not think it warranted two stars. read more

I love little regional surprises. Lately, my job has taken me in some different directions, and while traveling through rural Mississippi I began to see this burger chain called Wards. Never heard of it, but I've been making regular stops in New Augusta, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I stepped into the establishment and the atmosphere was pretty much what one would expect, brightly colored booth tables with hard seating, but the small town location gave it a bit of charm. I almost always prefer to go inside to order, especially if I've never been there before. It gives me a chance to review the menu at my own pace instead of dealing with the pressure of decision making in a drive-thru. Plus, it gives me a chance to meet the locals, and to compliment them in person, if such compliments are warranted. Also, their menu was much more extensive than I expected, so I was glad to have the time to look it over properly. I ordered the Qwarder Pounder burger (see what they did there?!) While the burger was absolutely everything I hoped it would be, I found the fries to be somewhat bland and disappointing, basic store bought crinkle fries. The burger was cooked medium rare, exactly as ordered, and the onion and tomato were both very crisp and fresh, very juicy and appropriately seasoned. Tasty. The staff was exceptionally friendly, as usually is the case in small towns. I arrived during the lunch rush, and they still had the order out quickly. I was fairly impressed with the speed of service. This will very likely become a regular stop for food on this route, as I am looking forward to trying some of the other options they offer. read more

I will never eat at this place due to the nasty pigs who roam that establishment. Every one was farting, burping, and sneezing all over the food. Someone left a turd the size of a pringles can on the seat. Truly a horrible experience. The food was a disaster and my Big one burger looked like a soiled diaper. Maybe I should have known it was bad when I got locked in the bathroom and had to knock on the door so someone would come open it. I had a loaded chili dog and fries. I only ate the hot dog because I was hungry. It was soggy and the pink wiener had no flavor. The fries were so greasy, I couldn't eat them. I will never go back. read more

While road-tripping in MS it was time for a pit stop. Ward's was the 1st place we saw. Ward's is known for our homemade Root beer. We didn't know that but the signs on the window boasted they were just voted BEST FAST FOOD. We didn't know by who but decided to give it a try. Bathrooms are clean which was my 1st stop before placing my order. I got a corn dog, fries and an unsweetened iced tea. I ate on the road. Everything was greasy and my corn dog's batter was on the raw side. It's a good toad trip stop but I think next time I'll try the root beer. read more

DO NOT TO HERE! If you have never been here and want to go, don't! trust me it's disgusting. if you get a burger the meat will be thinner than paper or about the same thinness. Also, they never got the order right and one of the ladies made it so hard to order, horrible service. Also, the atmosphere was really cold and super not joy able. The food was mostly typical fast food fare, breakfast style. They actually do cook eggs to order though. They had a row of tables and chairs pulled out like maybe they were cleaning behind them. The lobby just felt dirty and like everything was probably sticky. Several employees hung out in the lobby, too. read more

I was on the road in Mississippi, looking to avoid major fast-food chains......but, also lookIng to keep moving on the road......so I see a few of these Wards Local (or regional - I'm not sure.....I just know they aren't found back home in FL)....So I stop, its a win, I can try out local fast food chain. I expected road burgers.......and that's exactly what I got. I ordered something called "Ward's Quarder" (yes, spelled like that....trying to maintain a stereotype maybe? IDK) It was a combo that I included fries and a chocolate milkshake. Truthfully, the fries looked really good; they were average tasting to be clear.......but they were really tasty looking. The burger was average or less fast-food; edible for sure, but not packing any flavor in here......think mass-produced patty smothered w/ a mustard-onIon mixture to substitute for flavor. I think if I was local, I'd rate this lower......but I walked away with what I expected.....a road burger. Setting the right expectation is important before hitting up a place like this....The shake was tasty (and the best part of the whole meal to wash that burger and fries down). Bad experience. Staff changed my order because they weren't listening to how I wanted meal. They were making rude comments in the back. Then I still didn't get the right order, double bacon CB had no bacon. Size of smoothie was for a child apparently. Then paid $24 for 2 double CB combos 1 w/bacon I didn't get and 1 w/chilli. Drink for 1 order was this child size smoothie they charged extra for. Unhappy customer to say the least. read more

This is a great little hambuger joint, you must try a big one of your new to Wards its just a chili burger but it's the specialty here. They make their own root beer which upon request is served in frosty mug that is most enjoyable. Have a solid breakfast made fresh and to order. read more

Ate there about a year ago in route too Hattiesburg. Had ate there in yrs past was pretty good breakfast but that morning I ordered what I've always ordered at wards and was shocked at price and the biscuits was probably hard enough too break train window I'd pitched about 50 yards away when it passed and root beer was flat and then stopped back by on way too house and giving them a second chance on a hamburger I ordered one of favorites. Well guess the chilly was left from last week. Didn't make it past red light and well guess? Bath room time !! Had same ordeal yrs ago with one in Beaumont ordered from Beaumont on way too work ended up with food poisoning. So much for second chances . Because when I started yrs ago it was one of best fast food chains locally. Sad read more

My kid just threw up in the back seat of our van...... We still had a ways to go before we would reach Hattiesburg (not much out on Highway 98), but the kids were hungry and we knew this Ward's had been good in the past as we have stopped here before when traveling to Mobile. This time is different. What in God's creation are these fries fried in. I always pass my kids their fries back to them first and they eat a few and then ask for their burger. My kid only had the fries for a few miles up the road and then I hear that sound. You know the sound. I'm not going to get graphic. I've got quite a nasty mess to clean up. I asked what is it and my other child says she thinks it is the fries, "they taste funny". I taste the fries and I know immediately what it is. It just taste like really old cooking oil. I saw another review after it was too late that had used the word rancid I believe. They must have not seen that person's review yet. Well I'm not going to just leave a review. I'm getting a manager on the phone as soon as I am done with this review to let them know that my kids getting sick isn't worth them saving money on some damn cooking oil.
