Here from out of town and always try to find healthy food when traveling. Unfortunately, was extremely disappointed. first off this location is hard to find as it's inside a home store. the floors were very sticky and dirty. you could see them preparing the food and it is not healthy or home made. I really wanted to like this spot! It could've just been a certain time that I went, but the food was not good at all. It was extremely overpriced and truly had no flavor! So BLAND! I go to my chiropractor in that area & heard about this place through that office. I wanted a place with healthy & vegan options & this place was it. I get The Dillon, which is normally a bowl, but I get it in a spinach wrap & add turkey. Katie says I'm the only one that orders it that way. This is such a hidden gem, careful you will probably drive past it. It is in a furniture and appliance store, And tricky to get into if you are coming from the west. First and foremost, Katie is as friendly, generous, and as kind as she seems on camera. She is very humble and down to earth. My wife and I come as often as we can, but our schedules don't allow us. She treats not just us, but every customer new or recurring so well like a family. I've run into several instances where either Katie or her employees have gone out of their way to keep us coming back. Anyway, about Birdhouse itself. It is a little hard to find because it is inside a furniture goods store, and off to the side when you walk in. Gosh, when you walk in, something always smells good. Today, I ate the Crooked Rabbit salad with salmon and it might be my go-to after my original favorite, the Curry-in-a-hurry salad. I have had several sandwiches, drinks, and meal preps meals from here, and I can't complain about anything I received. Also, their acai bowls are very satisfying at breakfast time, even though I rarely eat breakfast. Even if you are not a health-fanatic, they have plenty of options like the Heavy-T sandwich and Mexican Wrestler that are not as "healthy foodie" as the others may seem. This restaurant is one of my favorites in Hattiesburg! Especially for people who are wanting to eat healthy! The service is great! I love interacting with the owner, Katie and the manager, Sahil. They know my order and start preparing my Rici as soon as I walk in! The cafe has space to do work while you eat or simply just enjoy a meal with your friends or family! Cute and local. Their bagels here are absolutely freaking delicious! I think they have other food selections too but I came here for a bagel breakfast order! It's off on the corner so you can't miss it. Parking is across the corner if you're NOT a local like myself. I went early in the morning and there was a lot of parking. I'm not sure how it differs later in the day though. Great customer care and service and just the right price. Everything was made fresh. My brother and I really enjoyed our bagel breakfast. The food is good/healthy but pricey. $9 for a basic sandwich with a tiny fruit cup. Sadly, the service is somewhat lacking. You pay upfront on an iPad and I gave a nice tip. When I got to the table from stepping into the restroom, the waitress had put down the sandwich & small cup of ice. No water. I had to flag her down and ask if I could have some water. She went and got it and brought it back. That's the last I saw of her. Eating the sandwich without a refill was a little challenging. Not sure I will be back. read more

We ordered two sandwhiches for dine in and went and sat at a table. As we are endlessly sitting there the staff and even the owner herself are there messing around with the speaker and music, talking very loudly about things like Top Gun and the beach, and even going around telling the highs and lows of their week although no one is working on our order. After sitting there for over 30 minutes I finally decided to go and just ask for my order to go because my boyfriend had to go to work. No one even looked up at me when I approached them to nicely ask, and then when I finally got their attention they very loudly started talking amongst themselves about how they forgot our order or assumed it was to go. The owner apologized but no one seemed sincerely apologetic that we had been sitting there for so long with no service whatsoever. By the time we ate our food, it was cold and not even cooked well. I have worked in many different food industries so I very much understand forgetting an order or something taking a while to get out of the kitchen. But I have never experienced a restaurant where not even the owner herself will ask if we are waiting for something or if there is anything we need help with. We were not even acknowledged and I guess never would have been if I had not gone up to the front and asked about my order. They insisted on giving us protein balls to make up for it even tho my boyfriend and I both insisted that we did not want them and just wanted our order so we could leave. Noticed this as I drove past on Hwy 98 - almost missed it. Looked it up online and loved the menu. Finally had a chance to dine there for lunch and it was fantastic. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff was delightfully friendly and accommodating. Very cute interior - you actually enter through B&S Appliance entrance and walk to the right. I was immediately delighted with the decor and the aesthetic of the place. Fresh fruit was on display for the myriad of house-made smoothies along with fresh avocado, etc. Unique salads and panini sandwiches to die for. I will definitely go back again and again. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was due to the system being down when we ordered. However, they made sure our order was in queue and got started even without the electronic ticket. The restaurant is located inside of B&S Appliance, which actually makes for a really cool vibe. You feel like you are in the chef's house, hanging out in her kitchen. This is a fantastic breakfast/lunch stop for me and my husband. The food is prepared fresh and always great tasting! Our favorite smoothie is Kicking tires and lightning fires! You have to get there early because it can fill up fast and you'll have to wait for this awesome experience. read more

Very cute place with potential. However.... their service and timing need much improvement. I was excited to find a place that offered acai bowls in the area but very disappointed to see how unprepared the staff was for just a few patrons. Understandably the chef was not in yet, but reassuring your patrons and at least letting them know you are behind are corner stones in quality service. For a coffee, Acai bowl, and sandwich to-go we waited almost half an hour. The acai bowl was prepared first, which, as a frozen product, would have been best made last unless they were serving it to us and additionally it was not prepared as listed. The peanut butter was blended into the mix masking the acai flavor rather than on top as listed, the cocoa nibs were left off, and the fruits were cut too large and scattered on top taking away from the presentation. It's hard to say if the flavor may have been different since they were also out of almond milk and substituted with soy, however I would have much preferred being notified of this prior to ordering rather than just being asked if I was allergic. The Dillon itself was ok, however, I would suggest a sauce of some sort to compliment the grilled veggies and overall bland taste of the dish. Perhaps cooking the egg to medium or more gently would have added to the flavor. As for the curry-in-a-hurry, this was a salad I would possibly get again, but the cranberries seemed to distract a bit from the taste rather than complimenting the flavors. The dressing they pair with this salad though adds a nice tang and the veggies are fresh. So, if you have a very long lunch break, it is worth a try, just make sure you have the time. read more
