Time for an update! I've been trying my best to come here as often as possible. My dog, Max, has made friends and gets extremely excited when I say 'dog park.' Ever since my last review on Wardlaw Dog Park I've noticed a lot of issues that some people address on Yelp. Hopefully I can help you all out with some info if you're new to this park. 1. When you enter the park take your dog off his/her leash. If you don't, you're dog automatically will become dependent on you which will lead to further stress on your part as an owner. 2. Before going to a dog park check it out before bringing your pet. Drive by, check out the website, do some research. Like I said before, bring your pet when there is hardly any other dogs in the park. Placing your pet into a new environment without a leash will make him/her nervous, curious and so on. Let your dog check the place out on his/her own. If your dog is wandering far from you, realize that it is a securely enclosed area, it's what dogs do. New smells, new environment, new dogs, new people it's obvious that a dog needs to get familiar on it's own. Walk around the dog park while your pet is following you. He/she will become comfortable with the park when he/she is exploring it with you. 3. Pet owners not caring about picking up after their dogs. Some owners do care, some owners don't give a damn but some owners don't notice and if that were to happen, let them know! It is a rule to clean up after your dog! It is also the public's responsibility to uphold this rule. There are trash bags and trash cans provided by the city, USE THEM! 4. Do not leave little children in the dog park with out an adult supervision. It's common amongst dog owners to adopt from animal shelters and rescue centers, it's common that some animals are not used to little children. Don't let your kids run around with the freedom to pet any dog they want. I hope these tips help.

Pet owners just go there to chat and not pay attention to theirs dogs, yes they are animals but you must be on the look out. My do Luna was bitten by a dog last week, my husband says he heard Luna wine a bit when another dog bit her and the dog owner just laughed. Days later a see my dog injured and infected, I took her to the veterinarian and she has surgery this morning and I spent $1300.00 I wish my husband had ask the guy his name and phone number just in case so he could pay for it. Please be on the careful and on the lookout for your pet. Mr. dog owner if you recognized my dog and remember that your dog attack my dog please come forward. Luna is a mixed Husky/Shepherd, she is very sweet and gentle. It's ashamed she got hurt

Very section deep with rough concrete--yes, dog park is also a skate park

Strangely, the dog park also has a skate park. I suppose it's for those dogs that we see on TV who know how to ride skateboards, but there were only humans in the skate park when we were there. There were street and vert sides with separate entrances. The street section had a half-pipe and lots of metal, with the appropriate metallic noises. The vert section had a rather large bowl with differing sections and differing depths.

My Malti-Poo Isn't used to be around larger dogs. That's why he runs in the area for small dogs. He barks sometimes but has never attacked another dog. Some people are extremely judgemental about the behavior of other peoples dogs. Other wise a great place dogs.

Here's the pros & cons. PROS- It's close by my house, has close by parking, has the big & small dogs separate, has trees to provide shade & seating for humans. It stays pretty busy and people are for the most part nice & friendly. CONS- It seems that the grass isn't as well maintained as I would like. There are issues with puddling/bad drainage sometimes. This was my experience last winter, although it seems they are trying to improve the grounds. It looks like they may have re-seeded the grass in the patchy areas, so that was good. The other Con is that there's a school near by and for some reason parents use the dog parking lot to wait for their kids. It gets insanely crowded during that time, so much so that the Ice cream man also takes root to get in on the action. It can be pretty annoying. My last complaint is about the chairs. Apparently there is a big concern about our (small side) chairs being vandalized & or being taken to the big side. So those are the few concerns with the park. Even with the cons I've listed I continue to frequent the park since my dog likes it and its close by for me. It does seem to have improved since last year so I think we will continue to see more good changes to come :) as for the parking situation just don't come between 1-3 since that's when the kids get out. Thanks for reading, I hope to see you at the park! Happy playing :)

Large dog park with separation for little dogs. Large grassy area with some trees and hill. Has a nice walking path around it for humans to get their exercise while dogs play. There are two draw backs: (1) You can only enter the parking lot coming from the east of Redwood on Ascot Parkway. Coming from Benicia on Columbus Parkway, the best way to drive is W on Springs, R on Oakwood, R on Redwood and L on Ascot; (2) On hot days there really no shade which they have at Phenix Dog Park in Benicia (end of Community Park, on Rose Dr., behind Matthew Turner School). PipSqueak and I have yet to go to any other dog park so this is definetly our little slice of heaven. Now if only those pesky teenage schoolkids would quit swearing so much. :) And I said it's GOOD FOR KIDS but hopefully you'll bring your children to the dogpark with the proper knowhow. If you run, you will be chased. If you antagonize you may be bitten. Unless you're tall enough to see over the fence I dont recommend touching anything bt the top as dogs like to pee... all over.. especially the legs of the chairs. And yes dogs jump.

Exercise equipment. A large field for soccer games. Lots of parking. Restrooms and water fountains. Play structures for children. I considered buying a house in this area partially for this park. The dog park is separated into two areas which are not connected. The small dog park is very flat and down some steps or a slope from the restroom picnic area. The large dog park is to the left and goes on a hill. The large dog park has two paved paths. One is like a switch back. The other goes straight up the hill. There's water fountains for the dogs at both the top and bottom of the park. There are also two double gated entrances. The park has some agility structures at the top of the hill, some metal benches throughout, waste bags and trash bins. The landscaping is mostly dirt/bark. There are plenty of trees in the park so the dogs to sniff. It's a great park for the sniffari type of dogs. It's also quite large! It's great for getting your steps in to walk up and down the paths. Most of the people I've met there have been great. On one occasion I have seen a dog walker bringing in 10+ dogs at once... The only words of caution I have would be to dress for the wind and in the summer I have witnessed a snake in the dog park.

One of the greatest things I love about this park and I hope to preserve is how clean it is . Rarely as their trash scattered and almost always the parties pick up after themselves where they can meaning they put their stuff and bag it up and put it in the trash or take it out to the dumpsters. This matters when you have a community space ! there's also bulletin boards throughout that show when the parks are reserved for events or when the tables have reservations for parties. (to book reservations or parties you do it directly through the Fairfield rec and parks website.) Last but not least they have a shared book library . It's been there for about three years now I believe.
