I'm on a hunt for a decent dog park near by with mostly grass and so far, Wardlaw Dog Park is the only one near me with grass. The ones i've seen or been to in Vacaville and Fairfield are dirt or bark; which doesn't seem to be the most comfy for our fur babies. There is one in Benicia that, I believe have turf, but it's not big like Wardlaw Dog Park. This dog park is HUGE. I love how spacious the Big Dog area is. Perfect for the pups to get their energy out! Even more fun when there are other doggos there! There's some shade and a few benches. Just please be mindful of the doggy poop and behaviors of your dog with others. My pups had so much fun here! We'll def be back for more play time. read more

I've met some great people there - including one of my best friends. We meet there every morning and do laps while the dogs frolic. With some caution, this can be a really great dog park. Let's start with the pros. It's huge! There are separate little and large dog sections although you can open the gate to move between those two. Plenty of parking. The dog park is grass! Most dog parks are bark or dirt. They do maintenance on the park every Wednesday mornings. This park has a walking path along the perimeter of the large dog side. There are usually poop bags and the water fountain is inside the park for the dogs. The regulars are friendly people generally with well behaved dogs. Here are the warnings. I've found that in Vallejo compared to other cities/dog parks there are a lot of people bringing in their intact male dogs. Or there sometimes is a man living in his car in the parking lot that brings his intact, in heat, female dog inside. This often causes dog fights. Because the park is so large some people can't quite keep a close eye on their dog. There is also a lot of poop. Certain areas get muddy after the rain although in recent years the maintenance crew has been roping off those areas so dogs won't go for a mud bath. I've seen some very heated arguments at this park... People love their dogs and defend them like their children. If you can find an off-peak time or have common sense to step away when you see a possible situation arising and keep a close eye on your dog it can be a very fun place for them. read more

While driving through horrendous Bay Area traffic back to Sacramento, my fiance and I decided to stop and take our husky pup to a dog park along the way. Wardlaw seemed relatively close to the freeway and had positive reviews. Thanks, Yelpers. The sun was almost completely down, and it was disappointing to see that the dog park was not well-lit at all. It was around 5 or 6 in the evening, too. It made me think that I should get a glow-in-the-dark vest for Oz, but he's a giant husky and hard to miss. The owners we met were friendly. There's waste bags and water, though we couldn't see most of that. My fiance and I were also eaten alive by mosquitoes. We probably won't come back to this park again and explore others instead, but the stop itself was a good idea to wear out the dog for the rest of the evening. read more

Time for an update! I've been trying my best to come here as often as possible. My dog, Max, has made friends and gets extremely excited when I say 'dog park.' Ever since my last review on Wardlaw Dog Park I've noticed a lot of issues that some people address on Yelp. Hopefully I can help you all out with some info if you're new to this park. 1. When you enter the park take your dog off his/her leash. If you don't, you're dog automatically will become dependent on you which will lead to further stress on your part as an owner. 2. Before going to a dog park check it out before bringing your pet. Drive by, check out the website, do some research. Like I said before, bring your pet when there is hardly any other dogs in the park. Placing your pet into a new environment without a leash will make him/her nervous, curious and so on. Let your dog check the place out on his/her own. If your dog is wandering far from you, realize that it is a securely enclosed area, it's what dogs do. New smells, new environment, new dogs, new people it's obvious that a dog needs to get familiar on it's own. Walk around the dog park while your pet is following you. He/she will become comfortable with the park when he/she is exploring it with you. 3. Pet owners not caring about picking up after their dogs. Some owners do care, some owners don't give a damn but some owners don't notice and if that were to happen, let them know! It is a rule to clean up after your dog! It is also the public's responsibility to uphold this rule. There are trash bags and trash cans provided by the city, USE THEM! 4. Do not leave little children in the dog park with out an adult supervision. It's common amongst dog owners to adopt from animal shelters and rescue centers, it's common that some animals are not used to little children. Don't let your kids run around with the freedom to pet any dog they want. I hope these tips help. read more

My do Luna was bitten by a dog last week, my husband says he heard Luna wine a bit when another dog bit her and the dog owner just laughed. Days later a see my dog injured and infected, I took her to the veterinarian and she has surgery this morning and I spent $1300.00 I wish my husband had ask the guy his name and phone number just in case so he could pay for it. Strangely, the dog park also has a skate park. I suppose it's for those dogs that we see on TV who know how to ride skateboards, but there were only humans in the skate park when we were there. There were street and vert sides with separate entrances. The street section had a half-pipe and lots of metal, with the appropriate metallic noises. Here's the pros & cons. PROS- It's close by my house, has close by parking, has the big & small dogs separate, has trees to provide shade & seating for humans. It stays pretty busy and people are for the most part nice & friendly. CONS- It seems that the grass isn't as well maintained as I would like. There are issues with puddling/bad drainage sometimes. This was my experience last winter, although it seems they are trying to improve the grounds. It looks like they may have re-seeded the grass in the patchy areas, so that was good. The other Con is that there's a school near by and for some reason parents use the dog parking lot to wait for their kids. It gets insanely crowded during that time, so much so that the Ice cream man also takes root to get in on the action. It can be pretty annoying. My last complaint is about the chairs. Apparently there is a big concern about our (small side) chairs being vandalized & or being taken to the big side. So those are the few concerns with the park. Even with the cons I've listed I continue to frequent the park since my dog likes it and its close by for me. It does seem to have improved since last year so I think we will continue to see more good changes to come :) as for the parking situation just don't come between 1-3 since that's when the kids get out. I'm reviewing this park strictly for the skate park aspect. I am mostly a newb when it comes to skate parks and there's quite a few in the area which all offer different things so I want to pass along as much helpful info for other folks who might be dipping their toes into the skate park scene. To be clear, I roller skate and I'm an almost-30 female so some things that are important to me might not be as important to others: Safety - 3 stars. The park is off a fairly busy street but kind of hard to see through the trees / brush that line the street. Additionally, there are often people living out of their cars in the back of the parking lot where the skate park is at. I believe they're there to use the public restrooms. This has yet to be an issue as most of these folks seem to keep to themselves. I will add that I think this park gets locked up at night, someone told me she arrived at 8:30am on a Sunday and it was still locked. Cleanliness - 2.5 stars. Not great. Lots of broken glass, gummy stuff on the floors, trash, beer caps, etc etc. You can navigate it but I would say it's not ideal if you're still a beginner who falls frequently. Amenities - 3 stars. Various mini ramps of varying heights, rails, a half pipe, a huge bowl in the back (that is also sometimes locked up, it has a separate gate around it.) They aren't super well maintained (some cracks, holes, lifting in panels) but they're functional. And I'll say the variety of ramps is pretty impressive considering it's a smaller park. There's also some fairly big seams in the cement which matters for those who are just starting out. Theres only a small amount of shade inside the park during the day but there is a water fountain next to the entrance and benches along the outside of the park and shady, grassy areas just outside which people will sometimes picnic at. The community here, from what I can tell so far, is pretty friendly and varies including older folks, parents & their kids, teenagers, etc. read more

This is our home park. We've been bringing Finnegan here at least once a week for two years. The park is huge & the people are generally great. As with any group, there are a few jerks but the park is large enough that moving to the other side usually solves the problem. Same result for when there's a ball thief (a pup who steals the ball & doesn't bring it back.) There's water, poop bags, and trash cans placed all over the park. There's a walking path surrounding the inside grass area. Benches & plastic yard chairs are available for humans to sit & plenty of shade. The greater park has a bathroom and water fountain with a fill station for water bottles. The complaint I have is minor & not something that can be helped. It gets super muddy & the puddles are like bogs. It can get like that from the sprinklers in a couple spots. So, be aware that there's the potential for a muddy pup. read more

Small dog being 25lbs and under. Several of the small dogs did go into the big dog side but those dogs seemed to be older, better trained and supervised by the owner. My Australian cattle dog was attacked today by a grey pit pull while we were playing frisbee. We had only been there a few minutes since the dog park opens at 2pm on Wednesday's. The pit ran across the park to my dog. The dogs almost knocked me over (btw I'm currently pregnant). The woman took her sweet time walking over to her dog while he had my dog pinned down. My dog was whimpering & crying at this point! The woman gets her dog, doesn't say anything just walks away to the other side of the park. I called the phone number on the front of the gate but they were no help. The officer simply stated unless a serious injury occurs will anything be done & that dog parks are self regulated. I decided to leave the park & speak to the owner through the fence & before I say anything to her besides can I speak to you she jumps to point the blame on how aggressive my dog was. I don't understand how my dog was the aggressor when your dog attacked mine THEN had it pinned down to the point my dog is crying. The one other person there at the time was on the small-dog side but saw everything & said that the woman & dog should leave. Other people trickled in & sided with the other woman for obvious racial prejudices; unfortunate but very true. My dog is ok but please be aware of this situation. Please take liability for your pet if they are in the wrong; excuse yourself from the park if your dog is not behaving friendly with others. I have no bias against pit bulls. I will now be carrying some form of protection from aggressive dogs & people due to this situation & learning that dog parks are "self-regulated." The park itself is a nice place, very big, & I've never had issues even in the past with other aggressive dogs. The owners are usually very responsible in getting their dog or even simply apologizing in the moment. I understand we can't control everything our dogs do but we can control ourselves & how we respond to situations. read more

Hello moronic owner whose hyperactive terrier repeatedly trampled my dog, nipped at my dog's legs in an effort to get him to "play", and continued to nip and bark at him after I had to pick my dog up from the ground when he became very visibly panic-stricken. Your dog does not understand English, so there is no point in saying, "Don't do that. He doesn't like it. When he rolls on his back and barks like that, that means he doesn't want to play. You should be nice." You're an idiot! I suggest you either get your dog under proper control (with commands that are effective) or get him out of a public park. I feel the need to write a review, because I'm seeing the reviews and finding people are saying the same things about this park. My experience has been similar with my 5 month old husky. It basically boils down to unneutred/spayed or agressive dogs, which are better for the park. DON'T BRING YOUR AGGRESSIVE DOG to a Dog Park. Safety first. We don't need our dogs to be unsafe because of your lack of responsibility as a dog owner. Your aggressive dogs endangers the park's safety. I see this with parents of children all the time being a teacher. Make the time to train your dog better. Maybe this park could have what the Napa parks have, undercover officers to ticket irresponsible dog owners. We should have the liberty to bring our dogs to a public safe environment. read more

Great dog park with friendly people. Small and large dog areas for off-leash. Chairs, shaded areas, and room to stretch legs. Restrooms on site for humans. Plus; huge size, baggies supplied, water point. Restrooms. Plenty of parking. Cons: park gets overwatered causing puddles and mud areas. Some owners don't do a good job of cleaning up. In five visits I saw uncollected feces in multiple areas, so watch your step. Be wary of owners who allow big digs off leash with no collar or harness. Broke up three dog fights in five visits. Never serious and no injuries, just too much excitement for some dogs at times. Only problem dog was the pit bull puppy with no collar or harness. Separating doesn't work if one dog can't be controlled. read more

Ever since the move from a house to an apartment I have been feeling more guilty about my pup's opportunity to stretch out his legs and get a romp in every now and then. It was SUCH a relief to come across this veritable Doggy Oasis in the foothills of Vallejo. They DO have a Small Dog side, but I'm rarely ever there because the Big Dog side's where it's at! There is an INCREDIBLE amount of space available for dogs to just be dogs for an hour or so. Although the parking lot may seem crowded, the park is so huge you never really feel it once you're inside. Aside from several water bowls near the entrance, there isn't much in the term of equipment with which to keep your pooch busy, but with the huge space brimming with juicy spots to mark to his heart's content, I'm still more than happy to come here. Tip: Use that Frontline! From what I understand, fleas have always been an issue so keep your pooch and yourself comfortable by throwing down some flea medication before coming here. read more

My little Casper (long hair chihuaua/terrier mix) loves coming here. As soon as we are a mile away he starts to sniff the air as if he can smell all the dogs near by! Silly guy! He nearly lets himself through the little gates so that he can go mingle and meet new friends, lol! He loves and I mean loves to pee and Mark everything, lol! I don't recommend leaving your bags on the ground! This is a great place for all small dogs, just keep in mind that they need to have all their shots and should be fixed! absolutely not! I first took my dog here about two years ago. It is a medium sized fenced in park with plenty of fresh grass, which was fine. What I have a problem with is the owners of some of the dogs that frequent this park. 1. You do not tell me how to take care of my dog. 2. How about watching what your dog is doing (all signs say aggresive dogs must leave) 3. You do not try to start a fight me with at the dog park! (all aggresive owners must leave) 4. You do not follow me at of the park yelling at me because I didnt want to listen to you, its highly uncalled for, and extremely untasteful. I have a medium-sized, friendly female who likes to rough-and-tumble play so I appreciate a dog park that has small breeds fenced off. Mostly, so I don't have to worry about my dog scaring the owners. The Wardlow Dog Park is well-landscaped, the Bark Patrol (that's the edge of too cute, eh?) helps to enforce the pick up the poop rules and, as a result, you can walk with some confidence across the grass. Nice size, nice grass, nice people and nice dogs (most of the time - not everyone can be a winner). My dog is really shy and is building her confidence here. We have been coming every day and slowly but surely she feels a little bit more comfortable with strangers and other dogs. She doesn't play yet and maybe she never will, but she now feels secure enough to sniff and be sniffed and occasionally finds a dog that she will wag her tail with. This is the best dog park in the area, it's large, there is a lot of room to run and a good number of people visit on a regular basis so you are almost always around other playful dogs. The only thing that hurts this place is the lack of shade on a hot day, the tree's have not not fully matured to a point where they provide any shade and it can get a little hot in the summer. Other than that, good people with great dogs. The walking path is great if you want to get a little walk as well. There is a parking lot right off of Redwood, the path is a little over 1 mile to the park and a mile back so you can exercise yourself as well as your pooch. Generally the park is always clean, there are always a few people who pay attention to their animals to the point of making a deposit - then they seem to loose track of their animal - but don't feel like you cannot hand them a baggie and show them where their dog pinched one off.... A few points to keep in mind: *This is a DOG park not a KID park so when you bring in a ball to play catch don't be shocked when it's nabbed, chewed up and drooled on. *When you run - dogs will chase..... *Your kid may love your dog, your dog may love you kid however all dogs do not love all kids. Please teach your children the proper way to approach a NEW dog. * Ask the owner if it's ok to pet * If they say yes, do not approach with your hand over their head. Open hand, under the snout lets the dog get his sniff and does not feel threatened. * If you run, expect to be chased. It's their nature to chase and their only way of making contact is with their mouth. The same goes with little dog's - some furry and fast and going to be run down. * Take your pet off its lead, other dog's running free will put the dog on a leach defensive. Once they are on edge nothing good will come. * The most important point, if you see a dog fight the last thing you want to do is yell, hit them with a leash and reach down to grab them by a collar. Approach any of the dogs from behind (does not need to be the offending dog just one of the fighting dogs) pick their both of their back legs off the ground by grabbing them by the thighs, lift their back end off the ground and take several steps back until you are at a safe distance and can let go. The dog is off balance and cannot reach back and bite you, this allows other owners to gain control of their animal and you can easily separate fighting dogs. read more

I love this park, but a lot of the regular dogs are too aggressive. Ive stopped taking my 9 month puppy there during the week. We like to go every day. I'm tired of him getting beat up. My dog is gentle and I want to keep him that way. The most regular of the people keeps telling me not to stop it so my dog will learn to fight back. I dont want my dog to have to fight back. Cute park. Not that busy when we went at 4 on a nice Sunday afternoon. Drawbacks: some people didn't pick up their dog's poop (which I guess can happen anywhere, but there were several places I almost stepped in it). And then it shares an area with a skate park, so there are a lot of sketchy people at that side. It was a lot of fun for my 2 little guys to watch the kids on their skateboards and BMX bikes (they're trying to ride like them as I type this), but there was one car blaring explicit rap music and another table of kids smoking weed. Not really our scene. Just keep in mind it's Vallejo!!! I gave it 3 stars because the actual dog park was cute and easy to get to from where I live. Not sure if I have plans to go back anytime really soon, but it's nice for a quick trip. read more

This is now my favorite dog park of them all (and we have been to many dog parks)..... I just wish we lived closer. We were in Vallejo today and when we looked up dog parks, Yelp and the Yelpers did not lead us astray (Thank You!). The large dog area has a huge grass area with a walking path around the perimeter of the grass buts still inside the fenced area. YAY!!!!! Our dogs don't play much with other dogs so it is great to have a path for us to walk on while our dogs follow. The only thing I didn't like was there seemed to a fair amount of dogs that left deposits that were not cleaned up by their owners. :-( I saw a dog off pooping and the owner was either not paying attention to their dog or they didn't care enough to pick up after their dog. I am a professional CTC dog trainer and do enjoy bringing my Dane to this dog park. It's one of the bigger gated and enclosed dog parks in the area that I know of. It also has a separate area for small dogs, which is VERY important due to predatory behavior in pet dogs- an any time any dog kind of thing (it's a real thing- I've seen a grab and shake between a friendly Choc. Lab and a Maltese type at a non-size separated park) My only complaint would be the STUPID owner behavior that is frequent but obviously anticipated. It is open to the public so that's exactly who's going to show up. If you happen to be a stupid dog owner :) please let me give a few pieces of advice: 1. If your dog gets in a little disagreement with another dog please DO NOT run over and start screaming at them. This only aggravates the situation. Think bar brawl - argument turns mob fight 2. Do "consent checks" often if you are worried about a play situation between two dogs. Grab the bully and see what the other one does. They will vote with their feet. (Please don't freak out if someone grabs your dog!) 3. keep your eyes on your dog 4. if your dog continues to get in scuffles or is bullying other dogs PLEASE call it a day and GO HOME! It's probably not going to get better. 5. PUPPY OWNERS!!!!!! Yes, you should socialize your puppy with other dogs BUT good and bad experiences matter. If your puppy is getting bullied or is uncomfortable go home immediately. Don't make a big deal about it, but get out of there before a major negative memory is formed. read more

I have a small dog and the large dogs are often poorly behaved so we stick to the small dog area at this park, which is really small, but well-maintained. The best quality is the people here are nearly always extra friendly and truly care about dogs. It's very close to my house so it's convenient if I want to stay in Vallejo. My dog knows when we're going there and gets all excited about it, so that's a pretty good endorsement from her. read more

I moved here from Santa Cruz looking for a dog park. I tried this place out and left pretty angry. There's aggressive dogs that kept going after my dog. The owners were nowhere in sight. The park is separated in two, one for big dogs and one for little dogs. Several people brought their tiny dogs into the big dog and naturally my dog ran up to one and kept stepping on him. Seriously? I finally snapped and left when a pitbull there kept jumping up on me repeatedly. I am VERY disappointed. They need to have somebody monitor the park to make sure the ignorant owners there are following the rules! read more

I was so scared to let Miss Cheerio off her leash and be free, but she got the hang of it and enjoys both the little and big dog sides. She's a medium sized dog so she gets the best of both worlds! There have been some isolated incidents but none involving Cheerio. Some pet parents are also a little less dilligent in cleaning up behind their pets. It's harder to notice on the big dog side on the less visited side of the park but it also happens on the little dog side too. Other than that, I have a great stressfree time watching her play and make new 2 and 4 legged friends. read more

Very clean park in a great area. There are separate areas for the little dogs and the big dogs, however, I take my 12-pound dog to the big dog area since his Napoleon complex is so huge. It's funny to see him get picked on by the other big dogs, but nonetheless, one can count on him getting his revenge by turning right back around and bullying the little Yorkie that strolls through those gates, especially after being "manhandled" by the pit bulls, labs, and huskies. It makes him feel accomplished I guess. For the most part (99.9% of the time), all the dogs in the big dog area, big or small, get along just fine. :) I digress... The park (both small and large dog area) is very well manicured, and the large dog area is spacious. I like the little hill that slopes down - makes for more dog cardio coming back up ;) It's also nice to see other kids playing at the skate park or playing basketball. It gives you that sense of community, know what I mean? My one and only stipulation: there is a big powerline (connected to a huge tower) running right above the dog park (large dog area). I didn't notice it at first, until I was standing directly underneath the power cords and heard all of this buzzing static and crackles right above me. I looked up, and sure enough, large power lines. It startled me at first. Anyway, I have this thing being near powerlines. I don't like to be near them at all! -1 for that, but overall, very nice park, nice people, and dogs having fun. Make sure to bring your own plastic baggies to pick up after your dogs :) read more
