    Playground structure

Cool park in Vallejo/Benicia. Came to take my son today to get some exercise, he had a blast. The slide structure reminds me lightly of the treehouse in Discovery Kingdom, definitely as not well kept but still operational. The park was free today so that was nice, not a lot of people around. I could imagine this park gets a lot more visitors on the weekend. I do recommend coming here if you're looking for a place for your little one to exercise and have fun.

Decided it was a great day for a hike. We googled not too strenuous trails nearby and landed here. We walked the grounds and observed beautiful peacocks casually strolling about along with countless squirrels. I mean A LOT of squirrels! We found the entrance to the trail and discovered it is a 3/4 okay maybe 1/2 a mile trek uphill. I'm in pandemic shape and the benches that are strategically placed at the end of each zig and zag are a good send. We made it in spite of the repeated warnings of rattlesnakes in the area. The view was well worth the effort. The goal is to go a little further on the next visit and there will be a next visit.

    Such a beautiful creature!

Blue Rock Springs is the jewel in the crown of Vallejo's vast array of public parks. Its well-designed landscape is just huge enough, features a variety of Vallejo's virile vertebrates, and is a great local venue for kids and barbecuing families to enjoy the sunshine. 4 . 4 S T A R S * LANDSCAPE LOVE Expansive yet manageable with a bit of flatness and a bit of incline. Lots of grass, eucalyptus, and sky. Sniff the Sulfur Springs, cross the little bridge, and find a petite pond and private promontory. The rear heights of the park provide a gateway to the hiking and exploration of Vallejo's blonde and craggy hills. * FUNTASTIC FAUNA The regulars: :::: Peacocks -- Find the boys and the feathers they drop at the rear of the park. Sometimes they fly up into the big eucalyptus tree behind the fence. :::: Turtles -- See them sunbathing from the rear corner of the pond. I once counted 10 of them! :::: Dragonflies :::: Squirrels -- Both the tree and ground varieties. The visitors: :::: Turkeys -- A small flock of these rebels visit from time to time. :::: Great Blue Heron -- Hangs out in the pond. :::: Red Tail Hawks -- Hunting from above. :::: Woodpecker -- Making noise behind the rear fence. :::: Turkey Vultures -- Occasionally drop their impressive black feathers. The dearly departed: :::: Black rooster A proud cock once patrolled the greenery between the play structure and the pond. Rest in peace, fair fowl, where ever you've transitioned to. * A BUFFET OF BBQ BACKDROPS Pick from the plethoric parade of positions to picnic and party -- 9 places to be precise! The Pines, The Grove, Trailside, Lake, Peacock Roost, Parkview, Lower Vista, Upper Vista, Entire Vista Area. * SUNNY PLAYSTATION The well mulched play structures are a bootcamp of joy for every girl and boy. The 3-level play tower is a wonder to behold and and slide down from on a sunny Saturday. * (0.4) LOCAL CHARMERS Encounter well-mannered locals and pick up on their unpretentious pleasantness. 0 . 6 M I N U S E S - (0.2) PARKING FEE Make sure to bring $5 on the summer weekends, and don't even think about parking across the street at the golf course because they WILL call a tow-truck. - (0.4) IT'S MORE OF A VALLEJO THING I mean, I wouldn't spend gas-money to get out there.

    The famous dragonfly!

I really like to go to different recreational parks. This one was definitely one of my favorites; quiet. They have a few nice bridges w/ cute lakes & lots of spacious, grassy areas. ** $5 parking. That's the only downside, but be prepared! There are so many dragonflies! When we were there, a dragonfly was just hanging out on my friend's pants. LOL The dragonfly was so famous, because a lot of us were taking videos and photos of it, because it was so still! As my husband and I were leaving the location, we saw an ice cream truck. That's cool, that they hang out around there, for people to grab some ice cream on a hot day! Hey, why not? make some business! If you're planning to have a party at a park in the Vallejo area, this is definitely a "go to" spot to have it at.

$5 parking fee per vehicle when you enter. Park is great for picnics and BBQs, but when it comes to hiking the trail, it can be a bit disappointing. The trail is very bumpy and you can easily roll your ankle. There is a lot of cow and dog poop throughout the whole trail as well as a much of thorns bushes along the way. We ended up at the fire station down the road and decided to just walk back taking the sidewalk down the road since we were tired of all the poop and cracked trails. I would come back to enjoy the park, but will not go back on the trail.

This is our second trip to the Blue Rock Springs Park to hike! There's plenty of picnic area and a lot of space for family fun games. Nice park for picnic and hiking!

If you use GPS to find this park, you might be directed instead to the golf course down the street as happened to me. I am sure glad friends even from out of states recommended that I go here - it was worth every lost second! Originally to snap pixs of peacocks which can be found in the high grounds of the park, I didn't see any on my original trip but instead wandered around this very big, gorgeous park complete with bathroom facilities, trees of every type and size, a very ample park, a small pond littered with human trash, LOTs of picnic tables and grills, and duckies!!!! So, i instead found those ducks thru my lens and was very happy. I returned this morning to capture a few colors of autumn and also see if the peacocks had awaened from their big party Thursday night and I did see a few. Originally they ran away as being a park, I can think of all the kids who probably chase and scare them. After a few minutes when they saw I wasn't a running noisy kid, they were quiet and even strayed to within a few feet of me - so close in fact that it was too close for my lens to focus on them! This is a very well-kept park. If you visit, please handle your trash and take them out with you. If you have kids, don't allow them to litter also. If you/they do see the ducks and peacocks, please don't allow them to chase after these peaceful creatures. I did find that "hidden" trail to the top for a fantastic view - thanks to everyone for pointing it out! PHOTOGRAPHICALLY SPEAKING: Right now the park is FULL of gorgeous autumn colors of yellow, reds, orange and every color between! It's beautiful and worth your time to see nature at its most colorful and most beautiful. You won't regret it! If you see and try to photograph the ducks/peacocks, don't chase them or talk loudly. Step quietly, keep your voices low, and please respect then as if you were in their place and wanted some peace and quiet. If you get the opportunity, they will surprise you with some gorgeous pictures of their colors! The pond has two wooden and stone walk-bridges, great for family pixs!! The trail takes you to the top of the hill/ridge, where a rocky plateau awaits you, along with a breath-taking view o the area. I could barely see the bridge and that was using my long lens - it's still a great spot to catch a sunset or sunrise - just get down carefully as there aren't any "streetlamps" back down the hill. I guessimate the trail to be about 20-30mins for a slow hiker. The phoo ops from above is worth it! EnJoY!!!

Lots of seating, grass, shade, and very clean. No dogs or any kind of smoking aloud. Saw some turtles

"Beware of the Rattlesnakes" was my take away from my visit to this park. While I did not see any actual rattlesnakes the signs all over the hiking trail were disconcerting. Every time I heard a rustle in the brush I would jerk my head around to see if it was a legit rattler. I do understand the need for warning signs though and it was actually funny. While staying in American Canyon and looking for a nearby place to get a quick walk before visiting wineries we swung by Blue Rock Springs Park. It was a little difficult to find because the address given for the park takes you to the golf course. Pass the golf course & keep driving and you will see the entrance for the real park. One big difference in parks in Missouri & California (I am from the Show Me State) is that you don't have to pay just to get in the state, county or community parks in MO. But, in California you do. Bummer! We had to pay a non resident entrance fee of $5 just to pull in the parking lot. ($4 for residence of Vallejo) California is broke-ish and this is probably a decent way to raise some revenues. I get it. This park has a little something for everyone. For the wee ones there is a playground. If you are looking for a picnic area they have those too. There are paved walking trails for the leisurely walk and hiking trails for the more adventurous. There are little nooks and crannies for the lovebirds. There are even peacocks!! What a nice surprise. We took the scenic hike up the hillside to enjoy a panoramic view of the Napa River and the valley. It was beautiful. We even got a few pictures. Not that I would recommend this but it is possible; this hike can be done in wedge heel sandals. How do I know this you ask? I did it! Stupid I know, but the circumstances just worked out that way. For you hiking pleasure I recommend you wear hiking shoes or tennis/athletic shoes and probably NOT a sundress.

Can't really hike this from the main road anymore, because they closed the parking area. So you have to drive to the back of the trail which is inside the hiddenbrooke community itself. Edit 6/12/2018: the trail is fairly overgrown and not maintained at this point. The trail is still hikeable, however you will be walking through tall dry grass and weeds for most of the trail. My legs got scratched up a bit. Spotted a snake wondering across the trail this time as well. Snakes are hard to see as the overgrowth obscures them fairly well. The first few hundred yards is cracked dry dirt that makes it easy to roll an ankle. I'm surprised this trail is this overgrown and not maintained given the money that is in that community. The trail is labeled at the trailhead. It is good for biking, horseback riding, and hiking. No dogs are allowed, however you will find nothing but dog shit on the main entryway for a good mile before it stops. The trail runs along some hills with constant incline and declines. However, it isn't all too difficult to hike. Half way through you will pass through a cattle walkway and enter the cow shit zone. There are patties everywhere. And you'll likely wander around some cows, but they scatter at first sight of you. The trail is clear for wearing shorts, however the ground isn't very flat as it is ravaged by cows on a daily basis.

There are some bushes that veer into the trail but it's not out of control, you can just work your way around it. Beware of dog poop, seems like no one picks up after their dog, EVER. It's a good trail to hike before work just as the sun is rising. It's short enough but still gives you a good cardio workout. I'll be back to finish the hike in it's entirety,

The last time we rafted Middle Fork American was on a cold, gloomy, drizzling day in October 2019 - so we had to give it another go in warmer weather. This time around was just as memorable. Two of us in the boat ended up falling out in the water at Tunnel Chute, which happened so fast that I barely knew what had happened - thankfully, there was a nice calmer stretch of water right after through the river tunnel, so we were easily able to get back into the raft.
