Great powerlifting gym, really convenient access for day passes (you can access through the app after purchasing a day pass). They have calibrated plates, several deadlift platforms (at least 4), power racks, and a ton of combination racks. I can't imagine ever waiting for equipment here as a powerlifter. read more

Super nice and welcoming environment! My friends and I visited Warcat for the first time, and it was our first time at a powerlifting gym in general, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. Sam was at the front desk and she was very nice, and after signing us in she gave us a quick tour of the gym. When we got started we were scoping out the gym floor to see where we could get set up, and a really nice guy offered to let us use the combo rack he was using. And then a different guy helped us learn how to use the combo rack and gave us some brief tips so it definitely felt like a warm environment! While we did our workout everyone kept to themselves so it didn't feel nerve-wracking or anything like that, and I definitely didn't feel like there were any judgy people there. I didn't think there were too many people but someone did point out that it wasn't typically that busy, so it seems like a great place to have a good amount of space to yourself. I came to WARCAT around the end of April looking to improve my overall strength. At the time, I was practicing yoga 2-3x a week and had recently started working out at 24-Hour Fitness using a program I had purchased online. Bottom line: I wasn't seeing the results I wanted. Then came Jessica Do, the owner & a trainer at WARCAT. She convinced me to try personal training with a focus on building strength. It was my first time working with a personal trainer and lifting heavy weights. I absolutely loved it! Having a trainer helped me develop a good foundation I can build on. I also pushed myself way harder than I ever had before. Most importantly, I was finally getting results! It is important to remember that good habits aren't created overnight. It will take time, hard work and dedication to get the results you want, even when working with a trainer. Unfortunately, I recently moved out of state; therefore, I was only able to train for 4 months with Jess. However, those 4 months gave me what I needed to continue training on my own. I'm finishing up month 1 using what Jess taught me. I now feel confident in the gym, and I'm able to structure my own routines to get the results I want. Investing my time & money in personal training was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I would 100% recommend personal training at WARCAT. If you're just looking for a better gym, you will not be disappointed. It's very clean & spacious with all new equipment. The facilities are incredible, the equipment is varied, and the staff is unbelievably patient, kind, and helpful. You will never find a group of people more willing to go out of their way to help you with anything you need, even outside the scope of their usual responsibilities. The level of service that you get here is miles above and beyond what you'd get at any big box gym. And the training environment? Don't even get me started. There's always someone to meet who's stronger than anyone you've seen before at something you've never seen before, as well as a good blend of people who are just your average joe lookin for a good time. Absolutely love working out here! I've been itching to go back to a gym and Warcat has it all: outdoor setup, equipment setup far enough to ensure social distancing, and even a "misting" tent for those hot summer days. Even the vibe you get when you walk into the space: everyone's so focused and in the zone, motivating you to do the same. Masks are required when walking inside (to get equipment, use the bathroom, etc.) but when working out in your own spot, you can remove it. Overall great gym. I might be in the minority saying these, but I will say it anyways in case it's helpful. Great place if you're a powerlifter, Olympic lifter or doing strongman without a doubt. But, if you're just a mediocre quotidian gym goer or perhaps starting out in your fitness journey and prefer not having to care about whether you measure up or need all the equipment like in a regular big box gym, it might not be suitable. 1. During busy hours, expect to not find any racks or any space at all and wait from minutes to maybe hours since some people tend to "park" themselves in a rack for a long time unless you're the aggressive type who can assert yourself all the time and make people leave. 2. The equipment available tends to cater to powerlifters and Olympic lifters. They're probably the only gym in the South Bay that has all the specialty equipment for powerlifters + Olympic lifters + strongman + spartan combined. But, there are some strength equipment not there like the hamstring curl machine, calf machine, leg extension, etc. but, that should be a given, since it's a strength powerlifting gym. Total nit: some of the equipment needs some TLC--the lat pull down machine pads are beaten up that those with small legs will find it hard to secure their legs and the beloved rhino belt squat machine (probably the only gym in the South Bay that has this) is always under repair. 3. Dogs. If you're allergic to dogs, There will be dogs occasionally so if you're allergic perhaps bringing Benadryl will help. 4. Hygiene. Cleaning and wiping equipment is not really common practice. There's also an occasional cockroach in the restroom. But I've seen worse, and that's every other gym, I guess. 5. If thou suffereth from the "phantom observer" syndrome (you feel like someone's always judging you at the gym). This place magnifies that. It will be harder at this gym, since the place is not that big for you to carve out your own space and get into "zen" mode to do your workout and tune out your surroundings. You might start asking yourself "I can't pull more than 500 lbs. I probably should work my way there at another entry-level gym before coming here?" Definitely, something that happens to the minority but worth pointing out. 6. Impostor syndrome. If you've ever been to an Ivy League where you feel like the dumbest person in the room amongst really top tier people and the presence of greatness either consumes you or motivates you, the feeling will be reminiscent except it will be for lifting. If it consumes you, this gym might take some time to get used to. If it motivates, sign up tomorrow. 7. Lots of cameras on tripods--everywhere. Apparently. many lifters need to document their progress and post on IG, so there are lots of cameras. If you don't like to be featured on someone else's IG without your consent, you'll need to be good at avoiding cameras or come during odd hours of the day when there's no one around. 8. Overall great gym. I like that you won't find as much of those gym jerks or ego-lifters or those that grunt so loud at the gym. The front desk is very welcoming. read more

It's like Cheers when you walk into the door and Arnel is there to greet you so you feel welcomed every time you walk in. Staff there is also helpful anytime you need a advice. This is a specialty gym that focus on power lifting, strength, Spartan race and etc. It is not you Orange Theory type of gym that focus on 60 minute training. I do enjoy lots of the different toys they have to play with that the commercial gym lack. There is not a shower there but you can use the restroom as a changing room. Lots of parking in the area but usually I go at odd times like 10am-12pm when there's hardly anyone there. If you think your strong and want to take it to the next level. Pretty great gym that does get crowded at times, but is pretty empty in the morning and late nights. I've been coming here for about 1.5 years and in that short period of time the gym owner has made many upgrades to the gym such as new equipment which is very appreciated. They are also always very understanding when I need to cancel or pause my membership because I was out of town half the year. Keep in mind that this gym does not have an abundance of cardio and exercise machines so do check out the photos or the gym before signing on. There was an incident this week where a man set up his tripod in the corner of the gym, started recording with the camera pointed towards me and my friend, and went outside to lay in the sun to "rest" or suntan. Not sure what this man's intentions are to record young women inside the gym lifting weights, but this behavior is incredibly alarming. When asked to show or delete the video, this "Stefanie P" refused to and asked why he was not allowed to record. Recording yourself and recording women you don't know for 10+ minutes claiming it's just "recording part of your day" are two very different things. In the 1-1.5 hours this man was lingering around the gym, he did not lift a single weight, which makes me question his intentions of being in a gym just recording others. The staff at the gym was quick to take care of the situation. I will continue to come and support Warcat knowing that the management has the member's best interest in mind. read more

WARCAT, plain and simple, is home. I've never been to a gym that's more welcoming and supportive than this one. Newbies might feel intimidated at first, because there's a lot of serious lifters who come to work out here, but that just gives me more motivation to be at my absolute best. AND since there is a wealth of experience at this gym, you are in great hands if you ever have any questions about exercises, machines, or proper form. Whether you're benching the bar or two times your body weight, there's a place for you here. This gym provides a support system that's unparalleled by other gyms--their environment is conducive to growth and positive mentality. Arnel and Jess, I'm so thankful for you guys, and the tireless efforts you've put into this gym. Not only to keep it running and thriving, but by keeping it safe to operate during this pandemic, and keeping it a safe environment so I don't feel ashamed about how much (or how little) I may be lifting (especially as a woman). Even on days where I'm doing rehab exercises for my previous knee and back injuries, I still feel welcome and ready to make some gains. WARCAT is awesome. Arnel and all the staff are friendly, supportive folks who are really invested in the gym and the people. You won't walk in without someone greeting you, but you can always feel free to socialize as much or as little as you want. Need a spotter? Someone will step up. Need to just power through a tough program with your headphones cranked? No problem. Want to have a bunch of people cheer you through that deadlift PR you've been chasing? Yep, they'll be ready to yell for you. People are happy to be at WARCAT, and that's huge. The gym is spacious with great equipment, and Arnel listens to what people want and need. There's a nice array of bars (deadlift, power, safety, trap, Swiss, etc.), kilos and pounds, wagon wheels, racks galore, chalk buckets...along with glute/ham, belt squat, cables, leg press, conditioning, Strongman equipment...too much to name here. Everything is kept in fantastic order, and it's CLEAN. You'll find plenty of athletes of all levels at WARCAT from pure novices to champion competitors. I joined this gym because it was one of the places that was open during COVID. I really cant say enough about how hard they worked to make sure we could all still train while everything else was shut down. The place looks intimidating at first but the place is like a family. The staff knows people by name and the other members are nothing but helpful. For the more advance lifters they have things that the commercial gyms dont have (and usually wont let you bring in) like chains, stones, etc. read more

Long-awaited review that I've been holding for a few months :p WARCAT is HANDS DOWN the best gym in California. Been coming here on weekends often during Saturdays since September and the energy here is the best, you can't get this level of hype anywhere else! Everyone here knows each other very well and they've built a second home/family to many lifters in the Bay. Although everyone here is STRONG AF, they're going to support you no matter what level you are at whenever you're lifting. WARCAT has every piece of equipment you need for any strength sport. I don't know about bodybuilding but they have cables, lat pulldown, and dumbbells LMAO. This isn't a gym for people trying to burn 2000 calories in 30 minutes. If you're interested in powerlifting, strongman, and weightlifting; this is one of the best facilities you need to visit :D I've built many connections with the competitors of all levels, and people here are on another level of strength so finding someone to spot you in bench or squats shouldn't be hard. You will always have someone greeting you whenever you come in and leave. Without a doubt, unless you're doing HIIT workouts and Bodybuilding stuff it might not be for you but getting to know people here would be worthwhile! This is my home away from home! Arnel and his team really know how to keep strength athletes happy. Brand new, great quality equipment throughout the gym. More than you could ever want if you are into strength sports. No, there's no massive cable station where 10 people can do tricep extensions for 15 sets of 30 reps, but that is pointless anyways. Bars are of great quality, more than enough calibrated rogue plates for everyone, gym is ALWAYS clean and organized, members are respectful, staff is energetic, very friendly and fun. This gym wins! I've worked at a few gyms when I was younger and have been a member at just about every kind there is. Hands down, this is the gym for me! In my experience this place is a gem and the team really earns a two thumbs up. They've not only designed a well thought out gym but as a group they're great people serving our community. I love that the staff is always around supporting, educating and training everyone who asks for help. Now others may have their own criteria for a gym, but I'm a gym guy.. and this is what it boiled down to after a month or so. Cost: A totally fair deal for what you get! Members: I haven't ever though it was too busy. All walks of life are in here and I'd guess a 50-50 ratio of men and women. Powerlifters, spartan athletes, happy couples, regular folks in group classes becoming athletes! Hello happy San Jose healthy crowd! Equipment options: I think anyone should go take a look for themselves. There's something for everyone in here. Weights and cutting edge cardio equipment, powerlifting equipment, obstacle equipment, group classes, TRX, tires, turf, and peg boards. The list goes on and on for this one. I love the kettlebells and resistance wagons. The best part? People actually are respectful to others and put their weights back. :) Other fitness options: Several group classes daily. YOU WILL WORK! Each trainer has their own style and man are they good. I'm not sure if they offer personal training. Nobody ever pressed me to buy any if they do. I've seen some trainers that don't work for the gym come in with clients to train in the facility. That itself says something by about how good the facility is. Location and parking: No parking problem at all, ever! It's on Bascom and I like that I skip all the busy freeway exits after work on my way here. Membership perks: Discounts! Members get discounts at places in San Jose for vitamins and food. They even have a food delivery service to get meal prep. Awesome! Cleanliness and environment: It never smells. I like that. People actually bring towels and help keep the equipment clean for everyone else. Thank you people! They have these huge fans on the ceiling and more on the floor. It's the most perfect air flow feeling ever. The air is always fresh and it rarely gets super hot even in summer months. It doesn't feel cramped and everyone has space to move around. Before I started training with Arnel from Warcat Strength, I had all of the unmotivated, unhealthy habits of a young adult. First things first; I'm not the fittest person or even close to fit. The staff understood my amateur status and was still very helpful on what I wanted to work out. The leg bootcamp literally kicked my butt. Seriously, couldn't walk normally. Getting in and out of cars? That was a challenge. Did I feel crappy? Yes. Was it worth it? Hell yeah!!! This review is coming from someone who does orange theory 4-5x a week as a heads up. I will do my best to not compare the two but provide my honest feedback. I liked the employees a lot, the space was cool, but I don't think this spot was for me. I come from a studio where everyone is high energy, super fit, super controlled, and fast paced. No time to lose track of focus. The treadmills were interesting as you set the pace based on how close you are to the front of the treadmill. However it's super dangerous if you're trying to run on it. There is a fine line between 5 and 6 mph. If you're trying to work cardio, it's not safe unless you're walking. Just some feedback - it's probably not a good idea to have the glass directly behind you when there is no stop button and it's easy to lose control... Mad anxiety trying to run on this thing!! The bikes were confusing as well. There is no way to manually set the resistance and you can only really get a workout in with intervals. You can't stand on the bike like a normal cycling session as your arms are moving with the pedals at a deeper depth than an elliptical. Also the man at the front desk could not answer my question about the machine (I asked about resistance) - I feel like if you work the front desk and the machine is right in front of you, you should be able to answer a simple question. The weight floor had a really cool setup, but the selection of the weights was not for me. They come in increments of 5 which probably works for most, but 10lbs is too light for me and 15lbs is too heavy to work on biceps or triceps. So I went slower on the 10s, but I couldn't comfortably push the weight. The other strength training options seemed cool, just not for me. There were all types of people there... Skinny, muscular, obese, average, anything, which is cool. I think what it comes down to is me wondering what type of gym this is supposed to be? I was under the impression it was meant for people who want to push and train to the next level, but the majority of people looked like they were just starting out and doing basic exercises. Sadly I was not motivated... I won't be back sadly. It's a nice studio and I know they put a TON of effort into it. Needs some work though! read more

After being a member for almost a year, I want to write an updated review. I am finishing up my last month personal training with Tony. The last 4 months have been the best investment I've made in my physical and mental health. I've taken PT at other gyms, but WARCAT is different. I learned proper technique, better eating habits, and have seen real results. I went down 2 pant sizes and continue to see more changes, that I have to buy smaller clothes again! It is such a great feeling to consistently hear compliments from friends, family and coworkers about my weight loss and healthier body. Love this gym! When I started here in September of last year, I felt like I hit the jackpot. This gym has everything! Amazing trainers, amazing group classes, but mostly it's the staff and their desire to better your life. At no time were any of these guys my personal trainer, but they still checked in on me when I fell off the wagon. The gym is soooo clean too!!! I have also watched the gym transform and have machines added which shows me that the business is always willing to change and conform to meet the needs of clients. I love so many things about this place and it is by far the best time I have spent at any gym ever. Both the gym and Jessica are amazing. Great facility and with Jessica's assistance I'm feel on track for my health goals. I started working out again years ago with another (now-closed) facility but moved out of state...and then moved back - but didn't work out when I was away...so I got a bit of a false start there. Wasn't sure where to go since the old facility closed. Looked around and found Warcat. They are the best gym I've seen (lots of equipment, large variety of equipment...and key - parking!!). I'm not a group workout person so I can't speak for their bootcamps. While they have all the machines (lat pull down, etc) if you want them, I've done those for years and find them super boring (and depressing). Therefore, Jessica has set me up with things that are challenging, new and fun! Now I have to do my part (working out on non-trainer days and eating better). Lots of different sizes of people here and folks at different training levels. Very inclusive and friendly. Super clean! read more

As much as I want to scream as loud as I can about this place, I also want to keep it hidden. I drive past this place every single day and Thursday the powerlifting in the window caught my eye so I stopped. I have seen this building as someone else before and thought it was just a tiny space but I was SO wrong. My boyfriend and I were greeted when we walked in. We spoke about the gym and their style and we got a tour. When we walked through the door to the main gym...OMG...it isn't small at all. It was like walking into one eyes Willies room in the Goonies. Everything we need and better than our current gym! We really didn't need to see anything else but we walked around and soaked it all in. We were given a pass to come back and workout for free which we did the next day. We had made a list of things we do out our gym to see if they had all the equipment. They have everything we need except one thing but all the new things like a yoke, tired and logs definitely out weighed what they didn't have. The price is more than our gym and definitely more than commercial gyms but worth every penny. We look forward to training here! read more

WARCAT Strength is my home away from home. I started working out with Arnel, the owner of WARCAT Strength back when he was a trainer at a previous gym, and his dedication to his client's well-being and progress has kept me following him all through his journey to starting WARCAT Strength. From the ground up, WARCAT Strength is built to help clients progress, have a good time, and be surrounded by a friendly and welcoming group of staff and clients that make the gym feel more like a secondary home than just a place to lift weights. Staff: Arnel is extremely knowledgeable about fitness programs, is able to quickly understand his client's needs and wants, and is able to work with just about anyone. Around him, he has built a confident and solid staff that understands the importance of form and technique, will push you hard through bootcamps and classes, and will work with you to meet your goals; whether those goals are increasing your strength, weight loss, hitting some sort of event (like a Spartan Race), or just general fitness. A special shoutout here to Anthony as well, who has the ability to make you laugh the entire session while also feeling like your soul is just going to leave your body due to getting pushed to the limit. Members: The people at WARCAT come from all walks of life and are some of the friendliest people you can meet. The stereotype of meatheads that just want to lift, grunt, and overall scare most people out of the gym isn't evident here. At WARCAT, you get a ton of people who can lift a lot, but almost everyone is willing to greet you with a smile and everyone helps push everyone to the next level. In fact, a ton of the WARCAT clients have become good friends of mine and we're always pushing each other during our classes, doing events outside of the gym (ex. A few of us are currently going forward for a Spartan Trifecta), and we even meet to workout together outside of any of the regular classes. Programs: The programs here are amazing. Arnel's structure for classes has helped bring me from a guy who could barely bench 135 and deadlift 180 to someone who has PR'd with 235/315/405 for Bench/Squat/Dead in a little over a year. He's worked alongside my physical therapist to help me get back to the gym after a bad car accident, has helped me recover from surgeries (modifying exercises where needed to ensure that I didn't overwork during my recovery), and has given me additional stuff to focus on at home to bring down my weight, increase my gains, and overall live a healthier lifestyle. The weekday classes never feel crowded, but always have a good group, while the weekend bootcamps are a great start to the weekend by pushing you to the limit. I've never gone to a class and felt like it was time wasted or I wasn't pushed to the limit; the staff makes sure that you're getting the most out of that one hour and you're going to walk away sweating, tired, and feeling like you got your ass kicked. There are also always fun one-offs. We've done bootcamps at Hapa's brewing, Arnel has had bootcamp BBQs at the gym, and we've also done fun things like movie-related workouts where we had to do some sort of exercise based off a quote, line, musical moment, or something else! Gym: The equipment is top of the line and ranges from heavy weight-focused areas to cardio equipment to obstacle course equipment and tons of things to supplement all of those. Special note of the giant tires, hammers for tire slams, peg boards, and the giant monkey bars and Spartan wall. The gym is clean looking and always clean feeling. People put their gear and weights back, there are wipes stationed throughout the gym to clean up your racks when you're sweating during your workout, and the gym is well designed to prevent it from smelling like a gym bag that's been sitting in the sun and full of month's old clothes. It never smells here, and that's awesome. It's also really convenient when it's open. I've been able to get a workout in before a long day at the office, getting in as early as 5am, while also being able to consistently get a time in during the evenings when my day at the office is done. There's always a friendly face here and a good program setup to help feel like I'm getting the most out of my day here. My Fiance and I recently joined Warcat. There are a few reasons why "we did". Ok, actually it was my fiance who wanted us to sign up to get into shape and be healthy for our 5-year-old son. Not much of a choice for me. "Happy wife, Happy Life". Anyways for the reasons why we loved it. The price was affordable for all the benefits we get. The classes like boot camps are a big plus. For us, having a trainer pushing us, leading us and showing us the right techniques for workouts are fantastic. Arnel, Anthony, and Taylor are genuine, knowledgeable, friendly and understanding of your goals and limits. Customer service with them is great because they take care of your concerns and questions. They also receptive to your suggestions except they don't let you transfer your burpees to someone else. Workouts with them are entertaining and you have a great time getting into shape. The membership also allows us to use the gym equipment anytime we want to like the free weights or the cardio equipment which they have a self-powered treadmill. Cool. Also for us, the location of the gym is great. They are a stone's throw away for us, literally, I threw a stone for my place and hit Arnel on the head. Sorry about that Arnel. This gym is not big and might not have all the amenities like others, but it is a good size and has the equipment and staff to get you to your fitness goals.
