Food is cheap. Taste is ok. Service is really bad. I guess that's the trade. I won't be back!

Like any truly classic Chinese restaurant its no…read morefrills interior, very straightforward service, and servers that basically only speak Chinese. But the food is so cheap and delicious! After a month traveling Europe, I was really craving some Asian food, so I'm glad I came here as the food really hit the spot. One thing that I thought was interesting though is that some of the dishes did have a bit of an Italian twist to it that I was not used too (coming from the states) -- in terms of the herbs that they used/sourced. But honestly, it wasn't a super obvious different and still tasted a bit like "home" aka my mom's cooking.

There was asolutely nothing wrong with the flavour, just the consistency unfortunately. My favorite was the wonton soup, the wonton was tasty and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. The clams and fried rice were nice too, two simple dishes. I'm suprised at how some Asian restaurants are unable to get easier dishes right but these guys just nailed it. The price for three dishes and water = 27€. I'd recommend this place and I will definitely come back!

Let me start by saying... this is more like an adapted "Italian Chinese" restaurant. Yes, it's…read morelocated in Chinatown... probably created this hood by a non-poc to identify the Asians. So, we were craving Chinese food after a few nights of pasta, panini, more pasta... looked up Chinatown and walked around. It was a Sunday... and there was a street fair... lots of little stalls selling treats... I had fishballs, egg waffles... and we landed here at Jin Yong for dinner. We got a bunch of food: -oysters... I didn't have any... but friends had it.. it was questionable. Not sure why they ordered oysters in a Chinese restaurant lol -braised bamboo shoots - love this!!! -snails (teeny tiny... can't even really enjoy it)... please add stronger green long peppers and more sliced ginger. -sliced beef w/ chives... please sautéed the beef with fried garlic, and season w/ oyster & sweet soy then toss the chives for 5 seconds! Otherwise it will be like this watery mess you served us. -Ong-Choy - this one is ok, maybe add sliced chili and fermented bean curd -the noodle (think this was a Taiwanese dish) needs rehab... it was awful. No flavor whatsoever, sautéed the ground pork! Then toss with sauce! Please -clams... This was a confusing dish.. either make it as dry sautéed in black bean sauce or in broth... no semi-brothy. Not good flavors. -the fried rice... was so sad... the flavors were fighting each other... too oily. No "wok hay" whatsoever. It's a very sad dish. Overall... the food is about 2.5-3 stars, I feel like the chef lacked passion for the food. Or perhaps... that's what Italians want for Chinese cuisine. Just like Americans want their chicken broccoli... who knows. Being generous with 3 stars bc of the bamboo shoots. Ciao.

Mink was craving Asian food again (after 2 meals in Italy) and so we looked at different options online. Based on photos of the food, we decided to give Mao Hunan a try. I made the commute myself and got us takeout. When I got there, only 4 tables were occupied but shortly after I ordered my takeout, the entire restaurant was full and there were people waiting outside! I seriously was getting excited to try the food after seeing this. While waiting, I noticed their modern and clean decor so I wasn't worried about the cleanliness of the restaurant. It only took around 15 minutes or so to get my order. We got a fried rice (Riso saltato di Changsa con salsa soia uovo e verdurefried rice with egg vegetables and soy sauce I think) and beef dish (possibly Manzo con pepe e verdure beef with pepper sauce and vegetables). Not 100% sure on the names of the menu items because I showed him screenshots of what we wanted from customer posts. I also asked for spicy sauce on the side along with a fork and spoon for Mink. Unfortunately, they only offer chopsticks. I rushed back to the hotel so we could eat. The bag was pretty heavy and when I opened up the containers, I could see that they were very generous with the beef. They took great care to pack the beef dish and the chili oil. It was wrapped up very well with Saran Wrap to prevent any leaks. Great attention to detail on this. I let Mink dig in first since she was starving at this point. All I could hear was "aroi" which means delicious in Thai. When I finally ate a few bites, I could see what she was talking about. It was unexpectedly really good. The chili oil also had a slight kick to it so it didn't disappoint. I'm starting to embrace Mink's Asian food cravings in Europe now because we have been finding some amazing places to eat. This place reminds me of some food I had while in China so the reviews are accurate. For those of you in Milan that haven't been to China, this is just like eating from there. All of it for only €21! What amazing value for what you get! Fast forward and Mink wanted Asian food again! She specifically said to go back to Mao Hunan because she really liked it the first time. It's extremely rare we go to the same restaurant twice in a trip but we did. This time we ordered a Tagliatelle di riso con manzo e germogli di soiarice tagliatelle with beef and bean sprouts and Ravioli di maiale in salsa Sichuan piccante dumplings of pork in Sichuan spicy sauce. This time I asked the guy what each menu item was called to be sure lol. We also got this order to go. The dumplings were incredibly soft and the beef chow funn was really good. This time it was only €17! Must try if you're in Milan and craving Asian, or Chinese, food!

The pockets of Asian communities in LA have amazing Chinese food, but this food takes it to the next level. We order some a variety of things and every dish was fantastic. The one small gripe I had was the mapo was too sour to eat alone and with rice it was not the best. It's interesting that they named the restaurant after Mao Ze Dong though, a dictator that killed millions of people. Maybe it's a satirical joke of sorts? I will never know. I very much appreciate the food though. Cheers
