The team at Wannamaker and Carlough took great care of my mom. They were very professional and helped us through every single step. Coordination between the church and cemetery was all taken care of, as well as death certificates etc. The facility is very comfortable, clean, welcoming. My mom prepaid for her funeral in 2006 ( 18 years prior to her passing). Her payment was supposedly put into an interest bearing account and statement had been sent to her every year. Up until 2019, perhaps COVID impacted the statements , I have no idea. But I do know that once my mom passed this horrible excuse of a funeral home changed her signed prepaid contract and presented me with a bill for more money, trying to provide services that were never wanted or requested, and to make matters worse actually were charging for 2 separate cremations! One at Garden state and one at Ferncroft. The Funeral Director Marty is the rudest inhuman unprofessional person I have ever had the displeasure of speaking with and literally kept repeating himself saying " uyou want me to do this for free" OMG this is my mother he was talking about who had literally just died , and by the way she prepaid for her funeral nobody was asking him to do anything for free. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take my advice and DO NOT TAKE YOUR business here, and if you have a pre -paid service try to get your money back and go elsewhere! BTW we never received 1 penny of interest on the money she pre paid 18 years ago and had to involve an attorney to get this unscrupulous business to do the job they were paid for ! Yes I am writing a review about a Funeral Home why you ask? Well because hardly anyone does and it is important. Death and taxes are a sure thing which effect everyone at some point in their lives. Also if you ever lost a loved one you'd realize that death is big business and it costs a lot of money when you are in a very emotional state. I've attended 2 services at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home. They've done a nice job both times and my family was happy with the services provided. Easy to find via GPS and they have ample parking. The slide presentation loop of your loved ones photos is a nice touch giving family members a nice way to remember their loved one. read more

I placed an order for a casket cover of white roses on a Wednesday and I received the notification that they were delivered Friday afternoon. I put the decease name on it along with his partners name. When I arrived to the wake which was only from 9a to 10:30a I was told that no such arrangement arrived. I called the florist and they had proof that it was delivered on Friday at 3:30p to the flower room. The arrangement completely disappeared. The funeral put the blame on the florist saying they must've not tagged it properly and it went to another service. I firmly believe the funeral home messed up the orders and put the blame on the florist. read more

When my wife passed away I had no idea where to have her waked. A neighbor suggested Wanamaker & Carlough. We were extremely pleased. The staff is professional and caring. We never felt any pressure to purchase anything that we really did not want. The setting was lovely. I recommend them highly. read more

The entire team at Wanamaker & Carlough could not have been more helpful and compassionate to my family in the pre-planning and the day of my mother's passing. The Wanamaker & Carlough staff handled everything for us; even reaching out to the church and convincing the priest to fit our funeral Mass in earlier in the morning. They were also extremely attentive during the wake and the day of the funeral and were flexible in a sudden change to the itinerary regarding the cemetery. Small personal touches they made were significant and appreciated by my family. It made a sad time for us so much more bearable. read more

I am writing this review so try to prevent a re occurrence for another family. My grandparents and two uncles have all been buried from this funeral home. The previous funerals were all dealt with professionally so my recent experience was very disturbing. My aunt passed away from a long illness. She was my mother's younger sister and the family was very close. She was almost a third grandmother to my grown children and niece. She never had grandchildren so she was very close to them. My only first cousin is like an aunt to them. Because of health issues and the over 650 mile distance, my parents were unable to attend the funeral. My sister was taking care of her aging mother-in-law in BC, Canada and also could not attend. Funerals are too stressful for my autistic son to handle with emotions running high and the unstructured time spent grieving. Life with someone with autism is different and to help my son process the death of his biggest fan, he asked for a picture of my aunt laid out. It was difficult to imagine but even when I talked to my cousin about this odd request, before the viewing, she understood how important this was to him and that my aunt would have laughed about it because she loved my son and "got" him. So my husband, my son and his fiance and I were the only family present to support my cousin. We went to the funeral home a little bit early to try to get the picture before other non-family mourners arrived because it was so difficult and I did not want to have to explain. The staff that greeted us were very professional when I explained the need for a picture but the salesman/director, Angel, was far from compassionate. He told me that my cousin was to be the first person to see my aunt and only after that was I permitted in the room. I understood the reason for this but as others were already arriving, knew time was short. I asked him if he could take the picture with my phone because I did not want to do this with a crowd of people there. He refused. My cousin was actually 5 minutes later than the announced time for the viewing so after she had her private moments, he invited everyone to come into the room. So I had to wade through people to even get to the casket and there was a bit of judgment from a number of people present. While I don't care what they think, it made it more difficult for me to meet the needs of my child and myself. Instead of being supported during my time of grief, Angel, made it more difficult. I talked to the friends of my aunt who had watched me grow up as I spent many summers with my aunt and uncle. They told me how much my son's frequent visits had filled my aunt with joy. After the service in the viewing room the following day, Angel suggested that my younger son and I should leave to allow the family to say their last goodbyes. I told him, we were the only other family besides her daughter there. We went to the cemetery and after the priest gave the final blessing, Angel announced that everyone was to place the flower they had been given on the casket. He called my cousin and her husband. Then he apparently just ran through the obituary despite knowing there was little family there. He named my mother and father, and like the hostess at a restaurant, repeated the names expectantly looking for them. I told him health issues prevented their attendance and my family was representing them. Then he named my husband and I and since we had already placed our roses, did not go up again. He repeated my name. He then named my sister and her husband, my autistic son, my younger son who did get up with his fiance, then my niece and the aunt and nieces on the other side, who also could not make the trip due to health issues. Every time no one moved, he repeated the names which underscored how alone my cousin seemed. While she knew the circumstance it caused both of us more pain. I just kept telling her that she was not alone. Her friends also repeated that. Because of this charade of naming missing family members, I was subjected to more pain at the luncheon after the burial. Most of the people were close family friends but not all. One of the women who had come to the cemetery but who obviously did not know my aunt or cousin well, started gossiping. I was on the farthest seat from her on the other side of the room but she spoke loudly enough that I heard her say. " I thought Jan and her sister were close. Why wasn't she here.?" No one answered her so she repeated that question and then asked where were the nieces and great nephews who were supposedly so close. I ended up getting up and speaking directly to her. She told me no one seemed present at graveside. Angel's callousness and indifference again caused me a great deal of pain. I had come to not only bid farewell to my aunt but I was also there to insure the love of family did not die with my aunt. Angel undermined that. It's unforgivable. read more
