This is a very nice community park with newer as of 2022 playground equipment, a covered picnic…read moretable area, two floating docks on a canal where.peeps fish, swings, a swinging bench, bathroom, and a give-a-book-take-a-book. Some shade but it's still pretty sunny. The water views, fishing and kayak launch opportunities (part of a network of parks on a kayak trail of sorts) and zip line playground equipment are highlights. We enjoyed our visit.

There is sooo much to explore! There is a little boy reading a book statue (with a must see secret book he's reading, just peak inside) The plants and trees are sooo nice and all labeled for educational purposes, there is often a landscaping crew around constantly keeping up on appearances. I met Joe the lead maintenance manager and requested some black tar to be cleaned up off the swing seat under the huge tree near the parking lot, I like to feed my baby there and look up at the tree, there are a lot of bird and squirrel action right there that love the branches and bushes. Joe was so polite and went to take care of it immediately! Wow! There is also a gorgeous bamboo tree garden around a rock fountain. And one of the best things here are the butterflies!! Oh there are so many! They have flowers that specifically attract them so it gets so busy with them, you can sit on the benches or the covered patio tables to relax and enjoy! There is crunchy rock area we enjoy stomping around on, really makes you think back onto the theme with the "feel" sense. There is an amazing compass or solar clock, shoot I forgot exactly but there are just sooo many details if you just stop and look around, like the brick pathway that has people's names on them. One of the best things here is the walk into the forest, there are read along glass framed display cases that usually show a children's book, and other local announcements and events, there must be over 30 of them because my son loves going over it more than once and following along, counting the numbered pages. This park also added a couple of bat boxes, which actually have bats in them! You can hear them squeak! And there is a tortoise I have seen here for years, when you get on the far edge of the path you can actually see his den, a hole not far from one of the bat boxes. This place keeps improving over the years, although it's over due for a good pressure wash, it's still amazing. Great toddler playground and an even better bigger playground with a classy merry go round (you don't see much of those anymore) a ton of variety of swing sets, teeter totters, oh and so much more! Fun for adults too! This place is for people that notice small details and actually enjoy nature. I can go on and on about this place, you just gotta come see it & experience it with all 5 senses!

The Myakkahatchee Environmental Park is my favorite dog friendly park at North Port…read more Beautiful hiking trails,few esy to follow looping trail,through beautiful jungles and grassy pampas. Some of the paths floods after rain. The Live Long and Prosper Trail runs along the Myakkahatchee creek for 3 miles.Lot to see,from alligators to beautiful birds and unique flora and fuana.For that 3 miles it was always walkable because it is on the creek bank much hire than the water level. The trail supposedly loops around,but I was never able to come back on the return loop because it was flooded-even at December-deep swampie water was blocking port of the trail and we had to turn around. However I seen some markings on the return trail,it looks like the park management is working on it. I wish that trail would go farther up by the Myakkahatchee creek,I would love to explore that area more.The trail ends at a barb wire fance..... There is so much to do at that park,you can walk with your dog,ride a horse,fossil hunt at the creek-when the water is low and clear at winter time.There is picnic area, a huge fild. Restrooms at the parking lot.Few boardwalks. Trails are well marked and maintained pretty well. This park keeps growing,I'm so grateful that is near by.

Ponce de Leon Park in Punta Gorda has that easygoing, waterfront charm that makes you want to…read morelinger, even if you miss the big show at sunset. I arrived too early for the evening colors, which is a bummer, but the park still delivers plenty to enjoy. There are picnic tables, shaded spots, and enough open space for families to spread out and make a day of it. The fishing crowd was out in full force, and the boat launch gives you direct access to Charlotte Harbor, which adds a nice sense of motion and purpose to the shoreline. The only real disappointment is the boardwalk. It is completely closed and visibly buckled, likely from hurricane damage, and it leaves a quiet gap where a scenic stroll should be. Do NOT come to the playground here with children…read more Aside from the non fenced shoreline with alligator warning signs on them (doubt that is a huge issue, but dont risk it) the building right next to it is filled with homeless guys generally up to no good. It is NOT SAFE. I went with my child on a walk from sun seeker and tried to pay them no mind, but one man on a bike rolled up and started snapping photos of my daughter. When we grabbed her to hide her from the camera he got verbally aggressive demanding we pose for him and "smile pretty"and kept pressing us as we covered her and kept saying no. It was creepy and so upsetting. And yes, it was 100% a guy being creepy about a child, not a misunderstanding. Im from LA and my skin is not thin, im used to homeless literally everywhere and kicking myself for letting my guard down because this the town I grew up in and it is generally safe, this area in particular has always been sketchy though so maybe its my bad for thinking things had changed from 35 years ago. We called the police afterwards and he was thankfully (apparently!) thrown in jail because he had a list of other things combined with our issue, but those are the sorts of guys hanging out there. He was buddies with all the men at that building and they outnumber you.

In the 1990's the land for the 21 acre park was purchased with funds from the Florida Community Trust. The park has several gardens: butterfly, flower, herb and spice with benches and picnic tables. There is a multi use recreational trail winding through habitats including wetlands, pine palmetto forest, salt/high marsh habitats,and disturbed upland. Boardwalks and an observation deck are along the trail. Volunteers maintain and enhance the park and offer nature lectures and training in the outdoor classroom. The park is used for walking, bird watching, photography, environmental lessons, and wildlife observation. Since it is well suited to all of these outdoor activities, it was given the name Nature Park. On my hike i saw a red-shouldered hawk, crabs, and rabbits. The entire walk was approximately a mile. I really enjoyed getting exercise in this beautiful park. Finding this nature oasis in the middle of a neighborhood was one of my favorite discoveries of the day.
