Such a gem, tucked away in a Detroit neighborhood, right off Rosa Parks Blvd…read more The setting is enchanting: a restored church with attached rectory, lots of relaxing outdoor and patio seating and a stage for live music. Exploring the details of the building and the monthly artist they feature is worth the trip. People watching is another attraction. The Congregation pulls together a diverse group of people, reflecting the neighborhood it calls home. We are mocha snobs and thoroughly enjoyed our mocha prepared in a large mug. It was beautiful, rich and piping hot. This trip, we added a freshly sliced piece of banana chocolate chip bread. Look forward to trying some of their other menu offerings in the future. The staff worked efficiently and were friendly in an "urban setting" kind of way. Seating inside is ample yet also stayed full as this place appears to be quite popular. Prices were reasonable. We will return just to hang out and try more of their offering or the attached pizza place called The Rectory. On Wednesdays, they offer a local farmers market. Kudos to the visionaries who restored this building and created an interesting and warm community gathering place.

I would come back for a matcha latte or a housemade vanilla bean latte:) This space is very cozy, great for WFH. Strong community vibes that make it welcoming and accepting! I felt super comfortable here and would come back to study and get some work done if I'm in the area.

I entered La Ventana already having heard some great things about the establishment. The space is so beautifully designed, and I especially love how many seating options there are! The menu is a bit limited. I opted to get a matcha, while my friend got his recent go-to, a cold brew with heavy whipping cream and a splash of vanilla syrup. I didn't realize that the drinks came without any sort of sweetener, so I requested a splash of simple syrup after, which the barista kindly did for me! I thought their matcha blend was okay. I got it with oat milk which sometimes changes the flavor, so that could definitely be part of it since I've heard so many good things about it previously. My friend's cold brew was a bit sour, but it still did the job of waking him up and getting us on the go! I could definitely see myself going back here to work and try out some of the basics!

I will be…read morehonest here: the drinks are a little pricey and so are the loose beans (yes, you can buy loose beans to take home!), but they're always fantastic with their flavors and service. I had a caramel latte (recommended by the friendly staff) and it was worth every penny! I also really enjoy the atmosphere; from a nice little sitting area outside to the beans shooting over your head when you order (go and you'll see what I mean!). I know there are a lot of coffee shops in the Detroit area, but put this one towards the top of your list!

Super hot so it took a bit to cool, but then a strong roast. While the laws of thermodynamics were underway, I was able to watch the flow of customers, observe the "Javabot" that sadly no one used this morning and watch the Detroit traffic circling around Campus Martius. Other than I was not able to get their wifi to work (Detroit has a free wifi as well), it was a good resting spot with quiet background music and it never did get any other sit down customers while I dawdled. It was so good and had such a unique flavor compared to other coffee drinks I've tried. I tried a vegan Fudge Brownie cookie from here as well from the brand HAYAH, which I've seen come up on my social media. I love that they use clean ingredients, so I can enjoy a sweet treat without feeling guilty, and it tastes great too! I love supporting a family-owned business like this. Especially with all those people inside. To make matters worse, they only have ONE bathroom and for all genders to share! The only cool thing is they have a dedicated prayer room. I have never seen that before. The coffee was good but I felt they didn't fill the cup up all the way (my husband got the drinks while I went to the restroom or I would have said something). They had a brownie on display and when I got it to go, it was placed in a Zingerman bag do I guess they get their pastries from there!
