Walnut Hill Coffee Company indeed has a whole vibe. Located in the downtown area of Winchester it's perfect for small group meetings or meetups with friends or a cute coffee date. The sweet potato fries were a surprise smash hit along with the Mayo-garlic sauce. YUM. Their matcha was great! Their chai is made with the liquid syrup. Service was fast and great!! Not sure what happened today, but the food portion of the order was messed up. First, I think they ran out of steak and the cook made adjustments on the fly. My wife's steak sandwich had a hamburger patty instead of steak. I thought my wife misread the menu but their website shows the sandwich served with an actual steak. My steak tacos had bacon substituted for it. My granddaughter's scrambled eggs were served Luke warm. I went up to ask about my wife's steak sandwich and the clerk said that's how it's served. She didn't seem to understand that if your menu shows a picture of a steak that's what you expect. Not sure if we will be back read more

I spent Monday at nearby(ish) Falls Mill -- about a 15 minute drive southwest, at least -- and found myself craving coffee. Figured I don't make the drive up to Tennessee often, might as well drive a little further and try someplace new. That place wound up being Walnut Hill Coffee! This coffeeshop is located in downtown Winchester right on the square. Parking is a little dicey due to that fact, but you're rewarded with a very spacious but still-cozy vibe and a nice view of the square when you enter the cafe. There are multiple doors into this place and the one I entered in spit me into a hangout/work/study space, which was a tiny bit confusing. I wandered around a bit and quickly found the other room where the ordering counter and menu are located. The baristas were very sweet and patient as I scanned the menu. They serve Piper and Leaf tea, which is a fun connection to nearby Alabama! They have lots of coffee options, some signature lattes, and food -- lots of pastries, and I think a regular kitchen, though it closes an hour before the shop. I ordered a Havana latte (might be getting the exact name wrong, don't really remember); it came with sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon flavors. I ordered the smallest size and found it was plenty for the price. The coffee had a nice, faintly smoky flavor and was just sweet enough for me. To accompany, I couldn't help but try an enormous espresso crinkle cookie. It was so pretty with the powdered sugar dusted on top! It had a cakey texture and mild but pleasant chocolate and espresso flavors. Lastly, they had a nice station set up with free lemon water, which I gratefully grabbed after a long afternoon outside. I can definitely see this place as a great spot to hangout, get some work done, or just grab a drink and a snack. I'll likely return if I find myself in the area again. read more

We have visited a few times now, and have been impressed each time. This shop would be the opposite of a busy, crowded, noisy place; instead, it is peaceful, with real cups and plates. There is a lot of space and everyone respects that. The coffee is crafted and I think that is a major point of difference from the large coffee chains. So, so disappointed in my experience today. I brought a group of 9 friends for an 18th bday celebration coffee. I ordered a Tim's Ford Fog with almond milk, extra hot and received a lukewarm drink. I asked them to make it hotter per my order and not only did they refuse, they also defended themselves, saying they made it at the right temp, I must have left it on the counter too long (didn't--got it right away)), and next time, I should ask for it "extra hot" When the cashier told the barista that I HAD ordered it extra hot, and that it was on the ticket, the barista looked at me and said, "Well, I'm so sorry." Unbelievable! We have been planning this outing for over a month and it was so disheartening to have this happen and to realize that at Walnut Hill, the barista is right, and the customer is not prioritized. read more

I come here at least 2x a week and it never gets old! It's the best place to get coffee in town! My current favorite is the pumpkin pie cold brew but normally I get the fidgety fox. There is a nice big bar that has outlets and it's super nice for working especially right when it opens in the mornings. They also have plenty of tables and seating to catch up with friends. This was my go to for breakfast. Would get the chorizo breakfast bowl and a front porch. Was worried the new owners were going to change the menu but they said they wouldn't but would add some new items. Went in last week to get breakfast only to find they no longer carry chorizo anything. Very disappointed. I couldn't ask for nicer people - so friendly! We ordered sandwiches & coffee. The sandwiches took a few minutes to make, but they were delicious! Ingredients were all fresh! Visiting from Nashville late one Monday afternoon and not a single business was open on the cute little square except Walnut Hill Coffee. Thank goodness because I would have hated to miss this place. It was the best espresso and specialty drinks I've had in years -- better than anything we have in Nashville. Yes, better than Barista Parlor. Better than Crema. Just spectacular. Other major pros: Housemade syrups, delicious pastries, cool historic building vibes, tons of seating, a nice division between the working tables and more social seating, wonderfully kind service despite us coming in five minutes before closing. What is it about a hot coffee served in a real ceramic mug that makes it taste so much better? Walnut Hill Coffee had me at "your dine in coffee gets served in a real mug." I spent a couple of mornings here while visiting family in Winchester, catching up on work email. This coffee shop is a perfect compliment to the pretty Winchester square; if you're laptop-ing it remotely here's a jewel that's a cut above the ubiquitous and overrated Starbucks as your Office-away-from-home. Love the coffee - the light blend is completely void of the bitter taste typical of better known coffee chains. The menu avoids the over-sharing trap and keeps it simple but solid; a reasonable but not overwhelming assortment of drinks, and a simple but compelling selection of breakfast tacos, and bagels. Food is plated by someone who must have some catering experience - my plain bagel neatly dressed with a little watercress plus grapes garnish and a cute wooden spoon to spread my butter.
