If you're like me, when you think "Walmart" you think of a dingy, dirty, sad place where everything is disorganized, where mothers and children scream-fight in the aisles, where the occasional dead-eyed employee darts among the shadows, their will to live irreparably corroded by the endless drudgery and rude customers.
THE WASHINGTON, IOWA WALMART IS DIFFERENT. Sure, I still had an awkward "No, you first" moment with a meth-head looking guy trying to get into his car as I was getting out, but he was a POLITE meth-head looking guy. Inside, the Walmart is AMAZING.
It's PEACEFUL. The employees were all smiling, working industriously. The patrons were polite. Children and parents interacted calmly and happily with one another. My boyfriend strolled the neatly stocked and perfectly organized aisles with wide eyes, wondering "Is this heaven?" No. It's the Washington, IA Walmart. read more
