The only truly rude person we met in Maine was a young guy with a major attitude about tourists,…read morewho was the cashier in this place. He ignored our cheerful greetings by pretending to be mute, he handed back change so as to drop the coins all onto the floor and then sneered about "getting you", and was a general a$$hole unless he was speaking with customers who he seemed to know. There aren't many other options for grabbing snacks in town, and he was evidently on a mission to make the tourists feel unwelcome. Fortunately for us, everyone else we met on the island was friendly and engaging, and we had an otherwise delightful time. May that aspect of our visit encourage many more visitors to pass through the village and the store, which will undoubtedly prove annoying to this one jerk. And by the way- if you want to figure out who he is, get close enough to catch a whiff of his stench- he must hate bathing as much as he does the island's visitors.

I expected prices to be on the higher side since this area is touristy and that assumption held true. I am sure you can find some deals depending on when you visit though. They found my gold ring in the dressing room area and did not know how to get in touch with me, but the next time I entered the store they asked me if I had lost it. I was on the verge of renting a metal detector to troll my garden, and was so grateful not to have to. And I have favorites from this store dating back decades. Five stars for sure.

First of all I'd like to start with if you are going to write a review, especially a bad review,…read moreone might include all of the context. With that being said, yes the store has those signs up. The first sign "You are not special" it's referring to customers placing their items on the register belt and then continuing to shop like other people may not cash out while they are shopping, taking up belt space for customers who are in fact ready to check out. Rockland Foodservice has carts, baskets, and baskets with wheels for their customers to use instead of the register belt. So no you are not special enough to put your stuff here and inconvenience everyone else. As for the other sign " we will give you attention when you give us yours" refers to customers using cellphones while at the register cashing out. And asks customers not to do it. It's rude. I'm sorry are you talking to the person on the phone or are you talking to the cashier cause I bet the cashier doesn't know either. How it is that in 2024 we are upset with stores or any one asking for respect or at the very least a little common courtesy when interacting with other people out in the wild. I say wild because people are wild these days. Rockland foodservice has the best customer service around when they will take all of your groceries out to your car and load your car for you, they are always available to help and try to find whatever you need if they don't carry it. So in short, if you're going to leave a review (I'm looking at you Dennis F) at least have the common decency and courtesy make sure you include all the context.

The record keeping of this clothing resale store is prehistoric and pretechnologic. Basically, there is no record keeping, and no receipts, leading to utter chaos. They lost an item I had brought in to consign, and after I had checked the shop three weeks in a row to search their inventory to try and locate the item in their store, the response from them was: we don't have time to look for your item - you must do it yourself. There was never any acceptance on their part of the fact that my item was lost by them, nor any apology. Their concession to this fiasco was to offer me a credit for what I would have received if they had actually sold the item, which they did not do. Not recommended for consigners!

He didn't have the item, but it's not easy to find and my expectations on that were very low. A friendly customer who Bob was helping before me overheard and they both offered me great advice for continuing the hunt for my treasure. I had a look around the shop, and found a beautiful (fragile) trinket I decided to purchase. Bob took extra special care in wrapping my item to make sure it would get home in one piece. It was clear he cared, even though my purchase only cost $5. (A steal). When I went out to my car, Bob had followed to take down the "open" flag and saw that I had my dog with me. He called out "next time you come please bring your dog in with you!" And that just made my day. Customer service is everything, and this place is as good as is gets. I am putting this on my "must visit" list for my future returns to coastal Maine.
