They pretty much have just about the same items as the other stores so nothing to brag about. All in all this grocery store is pretty good. They have some stuff that the other local places…read moredon't have and they run some pretty good special (sale) prices. Really like the drink selection (not related to soda), lots of flavored waters and at a reasonable price. Meat selection always seems to be really fresh and reasonable prices. Also, typically, cuts don't seem to be overly fatty. Bakery department has a good selection of breads and dessert (cakes, cookies, ice cream cakes, etc) available and at similar prices as you would pay anywhere else. They have really good rates for the propane bottle exchange too (less than $17). Staff is always friendly and helpful and keep checkout lines moving quickly. Overall store cleanliness is always spot on. Not a lot of clutter or appearance that they need to do cleaning. Really like this store and continue shopping here.

We got a 13.5 lb frozen turkey (not Butterball brand) for under $7 because of the deep discount with the card. It would have been over $25 without the card. Thanksgiving was great! Most importantly the price was ideal as well. I don't come here often but I always seem to find great items whenever I get the chance to come here. This place had absolutely horrible service. Got there at 10:50 at night. The clerk was standing…read moreoutside of the bathroom smoking, with the bathroom door even open. She walked back around inside when she saw us pull up, and the bathroom was locked. So I went inside and literally begged the lady to unlock the bathroom so that we could use it, because the bathroom has apparently closed at 9 (weird when she was using it when we literally pulled up). We have been driving for four hours and still had another two to go. Tried the shell across the street and their bathroom was out of service. So this was one of the last places we could go to (and are now literally in pain trying to find another bathroom). I told her all this and she very rudely said okay and walked around to go unlock the bathroom. She puts the key in, jiggles it, and then walks away. I pull the door and it is still locked. We just left then because there was no getting anywhere with that situation. So, please patron somewhere else because that was just a rude, terrible experience, considering we even topped off our tank there to be nice and not just use the bathroom. I can understand not having the bathroom open because of sanitation reasons, but to pretend to unlock the door was just beyond unbelievable, especially considering that I had not been rude, or demanding, really just pleading. So go to the racetrac instead, it's just a little ways over and probably much cleaner than Murphy bathroom anyways.

Brand new Family Dollar on Gadsden Hwy, right next to NTB Tires. So glad to have this new business…read moreon the far northeast Birmingham side. It's a typical Family Dollar layout, except the aisles are a bit wider than in a regular store. This made it easier to turn around without bumping into stuff. So far, it's neat, orderly and well-stocked. The refrigerated and frozen section seems larger than the normal store and A LOT of options and brands from which too choose. It takes up the entire right wall of the store. Coming here certainly beats running to a large store for something quick like Tyson frozen chicken fingers or deli meat and cheese. I didn't look at the prices, but I'm sure you're paying for the "convenience". They also have a pretty nice greeting card selection as well as items like socks and home decor. There were only two employees working (unless there was on in the back), but this early evening close to 4 pm. I will assume that there will be more working on the weekends. This store JUST opened so it wasn't crowded, but I'm sure once people realize it's open, it will become busy as it's located on a heavily traveled street and close to many neighborhoods and apartments. Going to Wal-Mart is a big no-no for me and the CVS nearby can be overpriced for some items. This Family Dollar (though it IS expensive for some items) fills a void on this side of town. It's close to the interstate so if one is traveling, they don't have to go far off the beaten path to get to it. I may not stop here for all of my shopping, but for staples like bleach, paper towels, drinks or last-minute toys for a kids' birthday party, it can't be beat.
