Upon arrival (5 minutes before lunch time) Mike and his associates found a tire that would fit my vehicle, worked into their lunch time to mount it, balance it and got me on my way to make my destination!! Mike and the whole team were great to work with! They didn't see me as "just another customer" but someone in need of a repair, a long way from home and were willing to sacrifice a few minutes of their own time to help a total stranger! I can't say enough good things about the team and how willing they were to jump in and take care of the customer! Mike sets a great example for the team at Newton and it is evident that he takes pride in his work and the work of his Team! Thanks Mike for all you do for all of the travelers who show up at your door with an emergency looking for someone to just take the time to care. And the prices honestly aren't all that competitive anymore. It's more cost effective to go to a different retailer in Des Moines. As far as grocery items, mostly their junk food, like candy and chips, is at a very low cost, but their frozen meals, produce and meat prices are high....and their meat and produce are of awful quality as well, and not at all fresh. If you aren't an overly social person and prefer to shop at night, good luck! They often have large sections of the store blocked off for "cleaning." And lastly, their decision to drastically downsize checkers and set up more self-checkouts is likely the most disappointing change I've ever seen a retailer make. It creates a very cold and unpleasant experience, and most of the time if you need help, the manager on duty acts annoyed. I avoid this store as much as possible.

It has a good selection of stores, and a place with rolled ice cream (intriguing, but sadly I didn't have the time to try it out). The restrooms were nice and clean. About the only strange thing was the kids play area, it was filled with young guys - mid to late teens, and about 8-10 of them. They seemed to be hanging out in there, and when we came near, they made no attempt to move. I hadn't planned to use the play area unless it was amazing (with a good slide, etc), but since it wasn't I wasn't too disappointed, but it was strange and there was really no room for anyone to go in and play with their children.
