The grand opening of the 100 million dollar, 624,000 square-foot mall attracted 3,700 people within the first 30 minutes and 22,000 shoppers celebrated the new mall throughout the day. Throughout the ensuing years the mall has faced challenges like the sinkhole that developed beneath a children's play area and a second hole beneath an area of the Sears store in 1998. In 2009, the economic downturn led to then-owner, General Growth Properties, filling for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It was reportedly the largest real estate bankruptcy in U.S. history at the time. The Sears store closed in late 2016, and JCPenney closed in June 2020, leaving Dillard's as the sole remaining original anchor store. After Covid there were only 40 businesses left in the mall. While the two anchor stores remain vacant, management has managed to increase the number of businesses to over 70. These include Regal 12 Cinema, the Lake Wales Bowl, with Strikes Bar and Grill, and the El Pilón Loko Puerto Rican restaurant adjacent to the food court. There is also a bounce house park play area for $12. While the mall looks like it has been through it I really loved my visit. it felt like a throwback to the 80's. There were some really unique stores and the carousel in the food court was absolutely beautiful. Where some people see a dump, I see a reminder of a simpler time. Don't write this old girl off yet.

We did make a few purchases and the manager, who had responded to the front for an issue at one of the terminals, waved us over and assisted in ringing us up. She was very helpful and made a point of inquiring if my wife had an account. She told her she had an old account, but did not think it was active anymore as it had been years since she had been inside a Kohl's. My wife's cell number did not match. However, after trying our old landline number which was deactivated about 10 years ago it popped up. This gave a $10 off voucher, which was appreciated. We were both very perplexed how uncrowded the store was and hope it is not a sign of negative things to come. The reason we, primarily the better half, stopped going to Kohl's was because in our previous home town the place was always packed and unkempt; the opposite of this Kohl's.

I was indeed grateful to find a few items I couldn't find at other stores/supermarkets to take with me on my trip back home. Customer service is also great, was able to find a store representative to assist with locating one item that was hard to get. I did do a price check on some of the items purchased and others I did not and found some to be less expensive than in my home area yet others were a bit pricier. Overall great store.

Visited the area since I wanted to also explore Sebring. Lake Placid Journal Plaza has their farmers market on Saturdays until about 1:30. A good handful of vendors are present. In addition, there is a brewery, cafe, boutique and some other cute shops down the street. Lake Placid is also known for their murals. So we walked around to check some out! If you are in the area, it's a cute area to stop through and see some shops, get a bite(which we got across the street at La Pupusa Queen), and also get something at the cafe at the plaza - Morty & Edna's. It's connected to the Blueberry Patch shop which I simply love!

This is a solid discount store as long as you are not looking for anything specific. I had actually…read morejust visited the Ollie's in Lakeland, which was a little bit better, but I'm trying not to compare the two since they are not close together. This Ollie's has a reasonable selection of books, and I noticed some books here that I hadn't seen at the other Ollie's. All the prices are a great value. My only gripe is that one of the books that I wanted was on a super high shelf, and it wasn't clear how I was supposed to get it, so I had to be creative with how I retrieved the book. I browsed the other aisles but didn't see anything in particular. I was mainly looking for books and excess tea; neither Ollie's had much of a tea selection. The employee that rang us up was nice and friendly, and there was basically no wait, although it might have been because they were closing soon. I definitely think a good value can be had here as long as you're not looking for anything super specific. I enjoy going to Ollie's for puzzle books and coloring books, of which there are many.

While it's mostly general merchandise they sell, one can also find a pretty decent variety of cleaning supplies, personal care products, clothing, bedding, toys, pet needs and even non-perishable foods! Plenty of bagged and boxed candy too. The store seems a good bit cleaner than the Odd Lots that once occupied this space. It's also better organized and has (somewhat) friendlier employees, albeit not all of 'em seem on board with that. Anyway, it dampens the "holiday spirit" of the store. Lots of holiday and seasonal goods for sale too. They got nothing on Robert's Christmas Wonderland on Gulf to Bay, but one of THOSE is probably one too many except in small doses. Meanwhile, Christmas music was playing in the store. Between every one or two songs was another Ollie's ad. Each one of 'em ends with the same phrase as though barked by a group of military recruits... "Ollies: good stuff CHEAP!!" That pretty well sums it up: hook, line and sinker. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you can find THEM too. I myself won't be doing so, but my dear Queen Bee loves the place. To me, it beats the be-jiggers outta Dollar Parlor, Greenback General or Goodwill. Very tasty too. Everyone oohed and ahhed over the presentation. Thanks Publix. The store is an older format publix, Small but easy to get around. The people were friendly and even though it was the night before a major holiday, the staff wasn't stressed out. I even picked up a Scratch off there and won $50!

The associates are pretty nice and patient when I was undecided about what I wanted in the bakery section. The seafood associate was super helpful in helping me pick the salmon. The cashier at checkout greeted me and even had a quick conversation. I definitely will be visiting again soon! It was also very clean! Also try the sushi's always so good!!!
