This Walmart is a place that needs to be more than what it is. It is almost, but not quite. It refers itself as a Supercenter - but you cannot tell by the last downgrade. They pulled a lot of products from the shelves instead of bolstering it's offerings. Even though they are the only viable shopping place in the area, they treat you like they'd rather you go to Stockbridge instead.
I have only been in the area since October, but I already see a decline in this Walmart; bent cans, lights going off, display kiosks missing, popular food brands taken away and replaced with unknown almost generic quality brands. For a while I was totally able to blow off going all the way to Krogers - a trip that comprised of either a drive through a dark country road, or an insane freeway drive into a massively over-trafficked 128 (Stockbridge). I don't go the Jonesboro direction as it is too far and again you have to drive through unlit country to get there. I thought I could avoid going to Kroger, but now I have to start going there again because of the merchandise downgrades and removals.
It was already bad enough but I could scrape by. Tell me, Georgia - do you really think Hormel and Wolf chili is better than Dennisons or Nalley? Why can't I find either one of those here? In California I didn't TOUCH Wolf or the extremely nasty Hormel - but now that's my only choice. I have to have Dennison's shipped in! And this store doesn't carry decent hot links - those Carolina Links are GHETTO AS HELL - they taste like hot dogs! Who in the hell is Mayfield and why do they have such a large presence in the ice cream area? Its Dreyer's, Breyer's FIRST - and THEN the unknowns! Look what happened with Blue Bell - never heard of listeria until I came here. The computer section was decimated and the Assistant manager stated it was because things weren't moving - when did Walmart ever trip on stuff moving like that? Hard drives don't "move" that fast in even computer stores, you don't expect them to "move" you keep them there so people like me, who are into computers, will have an interest in visiting and might buy something else. I have no reason to go to that area now because they completely de-geeked the electronics area. Walmarts is supposed to sell everything - video cards, games, accessories, memory, hard drives, tools, home supplies - but this one isn't on par with the quality of selection I had in California, or even others around the area. They are sitting on a gold mine and just farting dust. WE HAVE NO OTHER PLACE TO SHOP within 5 miles, so why not make yourself more attractive to keep going to?
The Walmarts I knew sold well known brands at lower prices than everyone else - not throw away food like some outlet. This one acts like it's the one that gets the leftover's other stores discard. They are also inconsistent - for example I only buy Hebrew National hot dogs. The hot dogs must be kosher, because hot dogs are nasty, made from scraps and crap scraped off the floor. So I choose Hebrew National which is a kosher brand - and well known. They had it up until about a month ago, replaced by Nathan's and some other funky brands. My complaints fell on deaf ears. If not for my reasons, how about the fact that you have NOTHING KOSHER in the store? Something against Jews? I could write a whole review on missing brands that are much better than what they sell - but suffice it to say they are selling the low end, crap stuff unless they just don't have a choice. This has not been my experience until I moved to Georgia.
The cooked food can be downright nauseating. The chicken is so greasy it looks like they fry it and then leave it sitting in the oil until they pack it up.Some of the people behind the food counter have bad attitudes and obviously do not care how the food ends up. I asked for greens and specifically told them I didn't want heat (spice) - the greens were hot as hell, like some joke. They need to hire a real kitchen manager to make sure there is some quality control, right now that is absent. The fruit and veggie selection is missing a lot of varieties, and sometimes you have to choose from rotting, bug infested veggies (like the tomatoes). The large tomatoes are usually the worse - what brand is it? Nobody has ever heard of it and it's rarely edible... gotta go for the wrapped ones again. The meat (why no Perdue brand?) suffers the same thing - no recognizable brands, and the beef prices were the highest I have ever seen, starting in March - pack of ground beef for $13.00? WTH?
Its pretty safe, so far, but the lack of security can lead to a disaster. I never see security in the parking lot - the place where people get robbed most often. Its a tragedy waiting to happen.
I am going to keep going here, because it's close - but I sure wish they will bring the store back up to what it was. If I start going to Stockbridge or the Ellenwood shopping center - its likely they will never see me again. Why make another stop? Sad.. read more
