The park they built across the street is beautiful and equipped with a skate park, basketball court, playground and swings. I see why so many of the locals hang out here. I have found great items from food to cosmetics to pet goodies. I was grateful to find they have many options even though they are on the smaller side. When it is cold I often come for the warm and ready gumbo and tortilla soup. Their low carb ready to go meals have made my life so much easier during the busy week. They even have sourdough fresh made in the bakery. I usually end up here over most other stores for my main groceries due to the always pleasant experience. It does tend to get pretty crowded and parking can be tricky. So I often come during early hours during the week.

This business is definitely both. They have a plethora of Texas cuts of meat sourced from Texas ranches, They have both pre-packaged and counter-fresh. On the flip side, they also have an abundance of fajitas, chorizo, al pastor, and other Mexican meats, typically found at traditional taquerias. We bought their in-house recipe chorizo and a bacon-wrapped chicken breast stuffed with jalapeños and pepper Jack cheese. We haven't cooked the chicken yet but I hope it's as spicy as it sounds. The butcher is in Monday - Friday but they're open 7 days a week. If you don't live in town but want to call ahead, they'll have you're order ready when you arrive. This is perfect for all the hunters that visit San Saba from October - January. They also have a small selection of Mexican brand groceries that are not available at the local grocery store. This is a great business addition for San Saba. They are conveniently located about 1 mile west of downtown on Hwy 190. Bottom line - A great combination of an American and Mexican Butcher shop. I wasn't feeling well; I was dizzy and worried about bending over to put the sacks in my car. I told her that and she was very nice and helpful about it. Most of the aisles were cluttered and full. It was hard to get through the aisles to find my groceries because the stockers were taking up so much space. They didn't offer to move. It was frustrating and difficult to get through the aisles. The sidewalk by the entrance to the store was filled with foul smelling cigarette smoke. You could smell it all the way inside the door. It has been that way every time I have come for the past two months. I've come on different days of the week and at different times. I asked the manager today about the situation with the man smoking on the bench in front of their door. He is there every day. It smells awful. She was emphatic that Brookshire's does not care if the smoke is offensive to their customers. She said she doesn't care if they lose customers because of it. She said that there is nothing that she will do about it. I said I may go somewhere else to shop and she said OK. No apologies or offers to help with the situation. She was condescending and seemed to enjoy telling me that she would do nothing to make the situation better. I've shopped here for 40 years and I'm really sad about shopping somewhere else but it was really a bad experience except for my sacker and checker. I don't know the manager's name. She did not tell me and did not have a name tag. She has heart shaped glasses. I hope someone at Brookshire's looks into this because it used to be a nice place to shop.

I called today since they didn't call a they said yes we ran it. I asked why didn't yall call like you said as I was worried my info was still laying on counter. They did confirm that they shredded my info (although wondering) and said when you tell someone you're going to do something the guy cut me off said maybe I need to find another health care store. Bet your bottom dollar I'll never grace your establishment again.
