Pasaje Independencia is basically the main shopping street that cuts through the old village. The street is closed off to cars and has arts and craft shops, restaurants, musicians and local artisans set up to cater to visitors in a safe area away from traffic. They usually have the street decorated based on holiday or artist theme so the decor is always rotating (they had giant ceramic pics the last time I was there). The rotating decor makes it a selfie takers paradise and there's something for just about everyone; shoppers, photographers, foodies people watchers, art aficionados. There's an old cathedral at the town square and sometimes there are dancers, voladores de papantla (aerialist religious ceremony that's protected by UNESCO), festivals, food and lots of things going on all the time. Tip: It's fun to look at all the Frida Kahlo stuff, but remember there are many indigenous artisans making beautiful things that are unique to this specific area. You can buy a Frida shirt anywhere but you can't buy hand beaded Huichol art in other parts of Mexico. What you spend your money determines whether places like this stay unique or end up looking exactly the same.

UNFORTUNATELY, One of the first purses I purchased started to come apart. The handle was unraveling. I set it aside and waited until my next trip to Guadalajara... hand carried it to make sure it didn't get more damaged. I took it into the shop and spoke with Octavio who assured me it was an easy fix and even though I had it for a few years they stood by their quality and would have it fixed for me, possibly for a nominal fee. Which I was happy to pay since I do use this purse! I also bought an additional 3 purses on this visit. Fast forward 3 months later, many un-returned emails by me, a few phone calls and a few in person trips by my cousin who lives in Guadalajara. He was given the run around, and just today told the purse was not touched. It will not be fixed an he can pick it up next Saturday. I think if this was going to be the case- from the begining they should have told me so sad too bad... take it somewhere else to get repaired. I am so disappointed. I am even scared to use any of my other purses because I am sure they will fall part within time. This company who says they stand by their work and craftsmanship- seams to only say that in their sales pitch. Beware.

It's true that the durability is not great - the string that was holding the handle to the bag started to unravel within maybe a year of purchase, but I was able to fix it myself pretty easily with some glue. Now, 7 years later, the vivid color has darkened and the strap has become detached nearly completely, but I still love the purse. If I can't get them to ship me a new one I will get the old one repaired and keep using it until it completely falls apart. This purse is just really special.

The Kiosks on the 3rd floor are okay and are your typical mall offerings, fries, tacos, burgers, and the likes. There are some restaurants and fast food options. TIP 1: Do not skip on Fresko. Make sure to check it out. If you are staying multiple days at the Hilton, you can get some daily staples like bottled waters, snacks, and other things if you've forgotten to pack them TIP 2: The food court area has arondeck chairs and lounge areas to watch sports or movies. Its a great way to relax. The drop off and pick up area can get congested for Taxis and RideShares so make sure you are ready as the pickups come fast and know the car, license plate, and driver. If you are driving, there is valet. This is especially helpful if you are staying at the Hilton. Midtown is not a tourist destination but brand destination and if you're into that, then its there for you.

The route here took less than 20 minutes by uber. We were dropped off in this small street, that intersects this fine shopping center. Because it was a weekday, there was not a lot of foot traffic throughout this place, which was actually a good thing. We noticed tons of shops that we'd find back home in LA, to include high end brands. There were many fine eateries, as well as fast food options on the upper levels of the mall. Since we already had food back at the hotel, we decided to eat something small at Carl's Jr. We shopped at Palacio de Hierro, which is similar to Nordstrom in quality. The place was kept immaculately clean, and the staff throughout the center was very nice and accomodating. After getting done shopping, we hailed an uber to head back to the hotel. I'm glad that we made the time to come here. It's a nice shopping center thats on par with Del Amo Fashion Center in LA's south bay. If you have great taste in fashion, or just need to pick something up for an event, this is a good option in the Guadalajara metro area.
