I only buy "additive free" tequila and they have an awesome selection - and in varied sizes that I haven't seen in the United States (see 375 ml in photo). This is by far my favorite tequila store in Tlaquepaque, Guadalajara Mexico. The have a great selection and have a tasting area with some great samples. I've found rare tequila here that I couldn't find anywhere else. read more

Emilio at El Bubo is one of the most knowledgeable tequilaphiles I have ever met. We tried lots of samples and he continually steered us to the best, not the most expensive. Several times he recommended the lower price of two options. I also did get a bottle of Fuenteseca 5 yr. Extra Añejo - one of the finest tequilas in the world! In Tlaquepaque they hold the Guinness world record from 2014 of having the most variety of tequilas. They do have some great selections and original bottles as well as some Tequila liquor. Prices surprisingly good being as Tlaquepaque is super "turisty". They also have a great selection of Mexican artisanal candy and even found some sugar free for my diabetic mother in law. read more

They are great at recommending drinks for your taste and desire, and to top it off, they have quite a variety of open bottles so you can try many of the products before you buy, at no charge. This was an amazing experience!! Emilio is the man! He is the connoisseur of Mezcal and Tequila! We walked in concerned we might not be well received judging from the types of bottles and price tags . But, to our humblest surprise Emilio approached us and enthusiastically began to engage us. He is absolutely fun to talk to and listen to. He speaks of tequila as though it's his only child, perhaps it is. But he makes you want to love and cherish tequila!! I'm NOT a fan (particularly because it's never sat well) I should say I have not been a fan but after Emilio, I might just be. He educated us on the types of agaves used, took us out back and educated us on the factors that characterized different kinds of Mezcal! Did you know the spirit itself is called Mezcal?! It's only called tequila because it is produced in a region/town called Tequila! If the same batch of tequila(Mezcal) is produced outside of this region it is tagged Mezcal! However, the popular drink of tequila is made with Blue Agave! Mezcal as we know it today is generally made with Espadin Agave! I know confusing but the defining elements of these drinks are fire type, agave type, location and branding. If you use an autoclave to cook blue agave you get what we know as tequila, if you use fire wood to cook blue agave, you get Mezcal- smokey flavour. There is an obvious branding effort going on to dispel this confusion and of course there is far more to it than I'm giving. Brown vs clear... Who knows, drink to your liking but look for 100% agave!
