I highly recommend the Banana pudding cake! My husband is a big fan of banana pudding and this…read morecake proved to be a decadent birthday dessert! The cake was moist and the pudding frosting was creamy and delicious. It was a HUGE hit with all of the guests! I am excited to have Witsend Bakery make all my future cakes and can't wait to try out the other flavors! Thank you so much for making this celebration one to remember!

This artisan bakery has undergone all health and department of agriculture inspections and been approved to prepare baked goods for wholesale and private sale. If you've never ordered a cake from a home bakery, we will walk you through the process we followed step by step. For our family, it started with deciding what type of cake my mom would like for her birthday, my dad would like for his birthday, and both parents would enjoy for their anniversary. My parents love old fashioned layer cakes with mountains of airy frosting. We browsed the photos and list of cake flavors in the Notes section on the WitsEnd Facebook page. Mom decided upon a coconut cake for her birthday. This was no ordinary coconut cake. Dubbed Grandma's Coconut Cake, the enticing dessert had been soaked for two days to saturate the cake with coconut flavor, then iced in a fluffy frosting and covered in flaked coconut. Six glorious layers of moist cake were slathered in a towering light-as-air frosting. Vicki Crouser, the owner of WitsEnd, has a contact number for the business on Facebook. We called, placed our order, and arranged a date to pick up the cake. When you work with any home bakery, due to restrictions you won't be able to pick up a cake directly at their home. You will arrange a time and public place for the cake delivery. This was quite convenient for us. Jerry met Vicki at the New Town Square shopping center at an agreed upon time on a day he planned on running other errands. Dad adores fruit .The Banana Pudding Cake was a perfect choice for his birthday treat. Four layers of sumptuous banana cake were filled with creamy banana frosting and vanilla wafer crumbles. This lavish sweet was hand delivered neatly in a labeled, sealed, cardboard cake box. If you don't finish the cake in one sitting, plan on making room in your refrigerator. All of the WitsEnd cakes use fresh butter and eggs. My parent's anniversary cake was a meeting of the minds so to speak. The Mandarin Orange Cake had the mandarin orange pieces my mom loves and the pineapple my dad cannot resist. The confection was an ambrosial tropical paradise. With all three cakes, we had no issues ordering or picking up the desserts. Vicki was always on time to deliver her box of sugary bliss. The WitsEnd Bakery Facebook also showcases beautifully decorated custom cakes for weddings and themed birthday parties. They make a variety of cookies like chocolate mint, chocolate berry, peanut butter tap taps, chocolate chip, gingerbread, and molasses. Several local restaurants serve WitsEnd Bakery cakes. For your next special occasion, veer away from the grocery store and head towards a local baker like WitsEnd bakery. I wasn't there, so I can't speak to the layout and setup, but she thought the spot was inviting. We ended up with 6 cupcakes (2 chocolate, a honey bun, carrot cake and 2 vanilla) and added 3 brown butter choc chip cookies and a confetti cookie sandwich. The honey bun cupcakes had more of a cinnamon flavor going for it, but one thing I enjoyed was the frosting. I was glad to not have frosting that was ridiculously sweet. The cake was dense.....not dry, but denser than what you'd get from spots nearby, including the chain places. I think it paired well with the frosting, but don't expect the cake part to be light and fluffy. I keep going back to the frosting....was very silky tasting. The same with the vanilla cupcakes...cake itself was dense but did have vanilla flavor and you can tell she uses real vanilla. Frosting was exceptional as well. I haven't tried the chocolate one yet, but my wife says it was the best one of the group so far. Regarding the cookies, I'll say that brown butter ones are ok, but not my preference as I prefer a bit of a more buttery flavor? Idk if I'm making sense here, but I prefer something different as far as a more not as sweet cookie and sweet choc chips. There's have great texture and the choc chips are great too. The flavor is too sweet for me though. Again, not my preferred type of choc chip, but it doesn't take away from how it was baked and the texture. I think the only knock would be the honey bun flavor tasting like a cinnamon roll? It was still decent though and got ate regardless. We're already planning another trip to check out their brownies and some of their other stuff.

Hey Family! I love discovering places, based solely on a recommendation. Coincidentally, I was…read moredoing a Yelp event nearby and I was making conversation when the bartender suggested that I come here. I haven't tried many vegan desserts because I find that something is always missing, it's lacking flavor, or not sweet enough. I can CONFIDENTLY say that, The Ginger Bread Man Bakery is absolutely amazing and had none of those problems. I dare say that these vegan desserts actually tasted better than some of my other favorite bakeries. I love that this gives me another reason to come to Winston. It's really cute and cozy in the inside. However, it is small but there is some seating. The person at the counter was super helpful and very friendly. She said that of course I couldn't go wrong with getting the classic gingerbread which was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised at how moist it was. There were also a variety of cupcakes where they do rotate them out pretty often. I opted for the blueberry Chai cupcake. I enjoyed the frosting and it had like a blueberry filling on top as well. And lastly I tried the blueberry Cookie Butter Mini pie. That one was very addicting. I tried my best not to eat the whole thing. Since it was warm outside and I had to drive back to Greensboro, I loved that the mini pies where refrigerated and the person at the counter, actually wrapped it up for me so it could stay cool on the ride home. I will definitely come back to try more items and I can add this place in rotation with my favorite bakeries. If you are in the area, do check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

The shop was inspired by his love for baking and encouragement from friends -- and some of those same friends actually work in the bakery today, which made the environment feel really welcoming. We also loved seeing how he collaborates with other local creatives. From merch designed by a local tattoo artist to candles and soaps made through local partnerships, you can really feel the community support inside the shop. Now for the desserts. We tried: * Blueberry Chai Cupcake * Orange Rosemary Cupcake * Key Lime Cupcake * Fruity Pebbles Cake Pop * Mint Chocolate Chip Cookie * Banana Pudding Cookie * Gingerbread Cookie Every flavor combination was impressive. The blueberry chai cupcake literally tasted like drinking a cup of tea, and somehow the banana pudding cookie actually tasted like banana pudding. Our favorite was the Key Lime cupcake. Great desserts, great atmosphere, and great people. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Winston-Salem.

Anyone else beeline for the Amish doughnut truck at the fair as soon as you get through the gate?…read moreWell Glazed-N-Dazed makes those same huge yeast glazed doughnuts and they are available (almost) year around. They are soft, warm, fresh from the fryer doughnuts. They sell one type of doughnut-glazed. They sell them 1/$4 each or you can get 3/$10. Yeah, they are a bit more than some places but these are hand rolled homemade to order and served warm. Their logo also said coffee and milkshakes but I was there just for the doughnuts today. Glazed-N-Dazed is part of the family run Food Freaks Burger Truck. Sidebar: if you haven't tried these burgers yet you really should because they are some of the most unique and best burgers I've ever had- both Glazed and Dazed and FoodFreaks post their hours and days on Facebook so go follow them there if you want to check them out. This particular food truck of theirs has a permanent spot behind Jug heads Growlers and Pints on Country Club in Winston. They are usually only open serving doughnuts, burgers or both when Jug heads is also open but sometimes they serve doughnuts in the mornings on the weekends. Keep in mind this is a food truck. There are picnic benches to sit at but it's all outdoor seating. Jug Heads has some indoor seating though so if you're there when they are open, you can sit inside with your food. I know a food truck might not be the first place you think of going when you want a doughnut but these are really good and if you happen to see them around definitely stop in to try them.

I would like to see the actual nutrition facts displayed so I can see the full macro breakdown on the treats, but I imagine I could have asked for that information. There are some helpful labels such as sugar free, and the protein cookies did note 10g of protein per cookie, which was helpful to choose in terms of refueling my workouts. I enjoyed the filling on the cake and cannoli, but the shell on the cannoli was almost too hard to eat. The protein cookies were chewy and a bit gritty but very pleasant for sugar free. I added some peanut butter which elevated it to another level. Treats were a bit pricey but comparable to other bakeries. My kids enjoyed their treats as well, which is a big win in terms of healthy alternatives!

(3.25 stars) My sweet tooth and my desire to eat healthier…read morehave long been at odds, and I wanted to get a sense of how keto desserts compare to their sugarfied counterparts. That led me to To Your Health. It's a small bakery with minimal seating, but there's quite a bit here: cakes, cupcakes, pies, cookies, donuts, and more. As expected, there were more gluten-free than keto/paleo options, but a helpful staff member was able to point me toward a few sugar-free offerings. I ultimately went with a piece of pumpkin cheesecake, which proved to be a somewhat mixed experience. I knew the texture would be different from a classic New York-style, and it was. However, the sweet, creamy filling with warm spice notes proved to be plenty tasty in its own right. Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same about the crust as the pronounced almond flavor was a bit off-putting. Finally, while I was prepared for keto desserts to cost more, $9 for one piece of cheesecake still stung. To Your Health does a commendable job of providing options for those with food allergies and sensitivities, and if I were in that camp, I might rate them higher. I can appreciate the care they put into their offerings, but for me, they just weren't worth the cost.
