Absolutely recommend this Dr. Great customer service. Office staff is awesome. Best part is I can see! read more

I have a mixed review about this place. I have been going there for well over a decade. Dr. Stuart speaks in monotone and each visit is essentially the exact same as the exam before. Cool, I like consistency. If you're going for an exam and prescription only-- make sure you tell him to measure ur PD. Companies need ur PD in order to fill your prescription. Dr. Stuart knows this and will purposefully leave the info off. I was living in Oakland, came home for an eye exam, and returned home with my script to fill my glasses online. When I called to ascertain about my PD, Susan told me that it was not measured and that I would have to come back to Sonora for that #. I KNOW they did this on purpose because they were butt hurt that I was taking my script to be filled elsewhere. Which brings me to my next point, glasses there are EXPENSIVE. I have awesome insurance; and to buy frames there, I would have had to chose between hideous "affordable" ones, or stylish ones that are half my rent. I went online and bought THREE pairs of glasses for $60 total. Which is shitty-- cuz I'm all about shopping local. Unfortunately, that's not an option when the exam was $80...and the glasses start at about $150. Not to mention-- as previously mentioned in another review... Susan n Wally don't seem to mind voicing their political beliefs. Which...is whatever... but know this, in a small town, that sorta thing will negatively affect your business. In fact-- I justified buying glasses online because it didn't wanna line their pockets, specifically, because of the political trash I've heard from them. read more

Very rude blonde short haired receptionist. She kept repeating herself very defensively but wasn't able to answer my actual question about billing. Quite comical how some people talk down to you like an idiot when they're the ones who are having the difficulty. Lol I had called ahead and they said my insurance would cover the glasses exam but once I got there they had billed me for contacts and glasses. They wouldn't separate them. read more

I have never reviewed on Yelp before and simply had to when I by chance noticed the a couple of the previous reviews. I have received three pairs of glasses, some contacts, and one eye exam at Dr Stuarts office. While I have not looked through all of their frames the selection seemed quite good. Previous post complained about designer lenses on offer but I am happy to have a complete selection from low to high end even in a small town - something not always available. Being from Washington DC myself and always shopping at For Eyes or other large format stores, I was greatly impressed when Dr Wallace said he would have my glasses to me in " a few minutes". I was shocked. He fits the lenses for your exact prescription (which you may have just received) right there in the office. I have never had glasses to me in less than 2 weeks. At Dr Stuarts I had my eye exam, picked frames, and had my custom prescription glasses finished at fitted within an hour though I was told it can be a day or two apparently - still better than weeks and sent off to someone I dont know. That's service and skill you do not get at these corporate stores. Lastly, anyone who knows Susan knows she is one of the kindest people around. Any misconceptions from others, while I am sure with good intentions, and simply misinformed. I would highly recommend Dr Stuart for any eye care. read more

The doctor was amazing As well as a staff I had my glasses faster than lenscrafters I am very very happy

I was in Sonora for a different appointment that ended up being canceled. I was so upset, I called every optometrist I could to no avail being so late in the afternoon, Dr Stuart told the very nice woman I spoke with on the phone he could squeeze me in. I barely waited, all of the staff I dealt with were more than kind, my exam was quick and thorough, and Dr. Stuart ended my appointment with noticing that I live a good ways out of town and offering to make my glasses on the spot. I walked into the building having a terrible day and out of his office being able to see and in a much better mood. :) Thank you! read more

Absolutely one of the rudest experiences I have ever received from someone ready to take your money. I will NEVER go back or refer this business to anyone. I tried to give feedback during the exam that I couldn't see and was repeatedly rudely told to "just listen!". The end result, glasses I couldn't use. They are fixing it now, after a second rude experience and more not being allowed to give any feedback on your own damn eyes. Done! read more

I use to go to Dr. Stuart about 4 yrs ago. I called and made a appointment and Susan seemed very pleasant. When I Susan called me a couple days later it was a different story. Susan proceeded to tell me their office couldn't bill my Insurance because there in El Savador. "I said" What are you talking about? Susan said she talked to Jose, and their office has to send the bill to El Salvador. So they can't do my Insurance. I told her that was a robocall, companies do that. I told I'd call and I did and she had it all screwed up!!!! I called her back and explained the billing Department is in Texas. She hung up on me after she told me, we won't use your Insurance. How Rude!!! I hope Dr. Stuart reads this. He's loosing business because of some senile, rude person named Susan!!! read more

I went to see Dr Stuart April of 2018. I went in hope full that after his exam I could walk out with contact lenses and finally see again. I think I've been to three eye Dr's in my life but this man was different. I'm from the bay area (San Jose) and everything down there is in/out the quicker the better... Dr Stuart is kind, calming and takes his time. I think he had me do about 4 tests, maybe 5 and when it was all over , I walked out the SAME day with contacts. And the most important part (besides he's a great guy) was the price was really affordable....I mean really..!! I would recommend him to anyone that wants to see for a reasonable price. Being new to the area, my family was in need of an eye doctor. I asked around at my job and two of my coworkers recommended Dr.Stuart in Sonora. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get my son in the very next day as a new patient. I called back to make my husband an appointment too and was told it would be no problem for him to come in with my son. A new patient exam was $89, very reasonable and half the price I was quoted at another office who couldn't even get us in until the end of May! My husband and son loved Dr.Stuart. They thought he was very kind and knowledgeable. Susan at the front desk was also super sweet. Both my husband and my son needed glasses and were surprised that Dr.Stuart was able to write them a prescription and fit them for their new glasses the same day! They had a wide range of frames for every budget and both were able to find something they really liked. Most places have you come back in two weeks but Dr.Stuart didn't want them to have to make a second trip, my husband loved that. My husband and son both came home with new glasses and raving about Dr.Stuart. My son hasn't stopped looking in the mirror, who would've thought a teenager would love to get glasses? I guess when it's my turn...I will definitely be making a visit to Dr. Stuart's office! Five stars most definitely!! I would recommend him to my friends and family. read more

Dr Stuart was very nice. But his wife was a condescending snob. I will not go back and I would not reccomend anyone else do so. Really sad and a perfect example of why so many small town businesses go out of business when box stores come in. If we cannot rely on good serve we might as well go where the prices are lower. read more

We were on vacation early June 2019 at New Melones Lake. My son accidentally dropped his prescription glasses overboard, and of course I did not bring a back-up pair this trip. I found Dr. Wallace Stuart on Yelp and Google. I called them after I was able to get an electronic copy of the prescription. The office was able to tell me over the phone they had one lens with the correct Rx and the other was close, not 100%, but better than no glasses at all! They also looked for frames with the appropriate measurements for my son, otherwise it would have made no sense to go if they did not have both frames and lenses available! We were able to get to the office about thirty minutes before they closed and Dr. Stuart was able to fill a new pair of glasses for my son. Even though the new lenses did not have the auto sunglass coating, he was able to see about 90% better than without any glasses! Thank you Dr. Stuart and (unfortunately I forget the two ladies names) who were so helpful over the phone and inside the office! read more

Old fashion, down to earth, excellent, friendly service! Not only have I been a patient but I work closely with the office and everybody in the office is rated a 10 in my book. The accuracy and helpfulness they provide is the best I've seen in town. I give Dr Stuart's office a thumbs up!!!! read more

I went to Dr. Stuart for the first time and everyone was very friendly. I had Davis Vision, and they had a large, very nice selection of frames I could choose from. I will defiantly return. I enjoyed my experience there very much. read more

I have been going to Dr. Stuart for a long time. He has a great demeanor. Very calming. Susan knows how to work with my insurance and always helps me find something I will be satisfied with, in my budget. Thank you. read more

After 4 years of giving business to this Optometry office, we were declined to use our insurance because their office was going through "credentialing" through the insurance company resulting in the Optometry office not accepting the insurance. My daughter was overdue for her eye exam for new contact lens Rx and we were declined a courtesy 1 month Rx in order to hold her until they could indeed accept our insurance again on Jan. 1. Very disappointed in how unaccommodating the office staff was in making provisions for a family who have been patients for over 4 years. We will be taking our business elsewhere from now on. read more

I went to Dr. Wallace for clear glasses and sunglasses. I first received my clear glasses and then went back for sunglasses. The prescription on the sunglasses was so far off that I could not wear them for even a few minutes. I went back the next morning and told them how far off the prescription was. I was told to try to get used to them for a week. I tried but could not. I then noticed that my clear lasses had the same problem but less pronounced because the lens were smaller. After a week of trying I went back and said there was a problem with the prescription. He gave me another short exam and said that they would make me a new pair of sunglasses but that I would have to live with the clear glasses. I asked if there was a problem that he could see like the prescription was transposed or the lab made an error. He got pretty angry with me. He told his wife to help me pick out new smaller frames for sunglasses. He would not answer me about what the problem might be. I said I did not want another set of glasses with the wrong prescription. I got my money back and left. I went to another eye doctor and got a new and much different prescription and sunglasses that are perfect. Now my two pairs of glasses are different and I asked Dr. Stuart to replace the clear lenses with the new prescription. His office told me that too much time had gone by. I said I had complained about the prescription from the get go. They said that they would ask the dr and call me back. No one called me back. I went to Dr. Stuart and all that I paid him for my prescription and lens was a waste of money! Now I have to buy new lenses again to replace the ones I got that were the wrong prescription. Plus Dr. Stuart was sooo rude when I first complained. Do not go to Dr. Stuart! read more

My husband and I went in 2011 for my first and his second yearly eye exam, the eye exam with Dr. Wallace was fine but purchasing eye glasses and getting a contact lens prescription from his wife Susan is another story. Susan his wife works with him, she takes care of the insurance end of a patients appointment. My husband and I have Davis Vision Insurance and we thought we would try a small town doctor and not just feel like a file number with most city offices. Susan started off very friendly and made us feel comfortable, my husband found some frames he liked but when I asked for the Davis Vision Frames Susan said the display was broken and didn't have time to put it up yet, in place of the Davis frames were some expensive designer frames. I didn't like any of her frames due to style and much to pricey for a small town doctor. I asked for my eyeglass prescription which was covered by Davis insurance and my contact lens prescription and Susan gladly gave that to me at no charge. I ended up purchasing some Davis Vision frames at Site for Sore Eyes since they had a nice display of the insurance covered frames. When my husband and I went back to Dr. Wallace on July 21, 2012 I asked for the Davis Vision frames and Susan pointed to some frames on the wall but I couldn't find them and she never came to help me look for them. I did find some Oliver Peoples designer frames that I liked on the discount rack and when I asked the price she said they are on sale for $450 which is 50% off the normal price, with my insurance and what I wanted on the eye glasses I would have had to pay almost $700 out the door. That was way too much money for part-time glasses especially since I wore contact lens 90% of the time, so I just asked for my contact lens and eye glass prescriptions which she gave me at no charge so I thought. The next Monday I called our insurance and looked over the charges and found out she charged us over $200 for my husband 's frames and charged me $89 for a contact lens fitting. I told her that she didn't charge me in 2011 and that my prescription didn't change and all she said was that was the charge. I told her to refund all our money and I called and complained to Davis Vision about them not having their frames displayed properly and how she overcharged us. I've never paid for a contact lens prescription in over 10 years and this small town doctors wife was now trying to charge me and I called her on it. It seems like Susan wants to push the designer frames and other frames that are not covered by the insurance companies since I'm sure her profit margin is greater from them then from the insurance companies. My husband and I stopped going to Dr. Wallace not because of the eye exam but because of his wife and her dishonesty . Beware of small town businesses! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Stuart for over ten years and the service from he and his wife has always been courteous, professional and friendly, They work with you to make sure your insurance is properly applied and you get the most of of it. The selection of frames contain various styles and price options. I have never written a Yelp review for a medical service but when I saw the other two posts I felt I needed to give balance and the real story. Perhaps those folks are simply haters of small town businesses??? read more

Way overpriced frames. Wanted to get some sunglasses they sold for $685 not including lenses in addition to my regular glasses. Found the same ones online for $225. When I called and mentioned it they claimed they must be fakes. When I later asked to confirm the item number Susan said no. I like Dr. Stuart my prescriptions are always good but, Susan is very unpleasant. I have gone here for many of the years I have lived in Sonora. I left two years ago because of Susan but came back due to insurance. I think I am done for good this time. I prefer Sierra Vista Optometry. read more

I got an eye exam and new lenses on January 24, 2017. On January 31, I picked up my glasses, a pair of titanium glasses which I was told by this office would last a long time. On February 8, I am sitting at my desk in my office when a lens pops out of the frame. I wasn't touching them or doing anything other than typing. I inspected the frames; the screw had sheared off. I owned my previous frames for seven years with no issues, yet I hand these 1 year old frames over to the office to get new lenses put in, and one week later the frames break in a manner indicative of a failure on the part of the people who worked on the frames one week prior. I take the frames back for repair, they send them into the lab, and one week later when I pick them up, I am charged for the repair work. Had I broke my glasses, I would gladly expect to pay. I did not. I was clearly handed a defective pair of glasses (possible over-tightening of the screw, bad screw, or other issue resulting from their work one week prior) on January 31. When I questioned them, the answer came down to it was my fault. Clearly, it was my fault for choosing a place with such horrible service and standard. I won't make that choice again. You lost my business. read more
