I made a promise to myself that I will be the only one doing my hair this year. I am learning a lot from YouTube University. I will be keeping things simple but classy. On today's visit, I purchased products to do a finger coil style. It took exactly three hours and twenty-two minutes to complete. I loved the finished result but my arms and fingers got quite the work out. Next month I will return to purchase Afro-kinky bulk hair for a twist style.

I bought 2 eyeshadows, a lip gloss and a nail polish today. I can't remember the name of the girl who helped me, but she was very honest and helpful when I became indecisive over lip shades (do I go with the Odyssey lipstick or the Rebel gloss?). As I completed my purchase, she also offered a tip or two about one of the eyeshadows I purchased (Black Grape - an awesome, sparkling dark purple). You can have one of two experiences at MAC: shopping on a weekday afternoon or shopping on a weekend. I highly recommend shopping on a weekday afternoon if you can, because you will have the counter to yourself to sample and play to your heart's content. I applied and re-applied several lip shades and eyeshadows, and the employee checked up on me several times to see if I needed anything. On the weekends, it can be extremely difficult to get individualized attention and even more of a challenge to squeeze between shoppers and see, let alone sample, any products. Because of this, I feel kind of sympathetic to the other make-up counters which are noticeably dead in comparison to MAC. The MAC staff is more than willing to help, and they check in often, but I've never felt pressured to buy anything nor have I been upsold. Although today I did buy $70+ worth of product, there have been times where I walked away empty-handed because I just wanted to browse. The only thing I don't like about this make-up counter is Macy's store lighting. Some things look absolutely terrible with their lighting (mostly the pale lip glosses), and other things I have problems assessing the depth of color in the eyeshadows and lipsticks. That being said, it really helps to ask one of the employees for their opinion on a color.

I sat down hoping someone would recognize that I was there for a very long time and needed help at which point someone told me they were 'stealing that seat' for an appointment. Needless to say I left with nothing and extremely upset at how I was treated.

I voiced my concerns and Nichole was my artist. She did a great job! I felt sexy and simple, just as requested, and made it out on time. One thing I liked about her approach was how she reached out to the other artists who were "better" at specific areas like contouring and lip color, to give me the best experience possible, rather than attempting on her own. I suppose the only downfall was that the price was a little high, but all their best products were being used. I just don't know much about makeup. I'd do this again for a fun event.

This same lady has been extremely unprofessional and rude during past visits. She either blasts the inappropriate music on her phone from behind the counter or is FaceTiming someone and using profanity profusely. She has never said more than 2 words to me in the years I've shopped here. I don't understand why and how someone could be so nasty and rude to people giving you business. I'm going to have to find somewhere else to go.
