My family has been going to Family Eye Care for years. The doctors are nice and knowledgeable, but…read moreI always notice that we have a really high bill, even with insurance. My husband recently went in for replacement lenses for his glasses. The bill after insurance should have been $150 for lenses and $75 for the exam, but they charged him $375. I called to ask why it was so much, and they told me the doctor had ordered several coatings on his lenses, and each had added to the cost. My husband wasn't aware that there would be added charges, as he just asked for lenses. He also felt like they were trying too hard to pressure him into buying new frames, even though his frames are still in great shape and he really likes them. They also scared me into buying expensive vitamins, making me feel like I was likely to have retinal degeneration because my numbers on a certain test were low. On a follow-up visit, one of the people in the office told me their numbers were also that low and it's very common. They recently told my husband that he needed the vitamins as well. I understand that they recommend them, but it felt like they put too much pressure on us to buy them from their office directly and made it uncomfortable to say no. My mom has also had "contact consultation charges" added on when she had a quick discussion with the doctor about her contacts from her previous visit not fitting well. She didn't get new contacts, just expressed concern during an exam that the contacts she previously got from them weren't working for her. They sneak in so many additional charges to bring up the bill and have a high-pressure sales approach, so we're going to find a new eye doctor.

I shopped at the Pontiac store before it closed, and loved it. Fairbury is a 50-mile trek, so I…read moreonly venture out once a month or so. Boy, has the quality gone down. Today, I bought several items. I seldom try clothes on because I have always trusted in the quality. One shirt I bought home had stains on it and the other had a rip. Prices have also gone up on items not on sale. Most of it isn't really worth it at full price anymore. The biggest, most fatal, mistake the owner of this store made was closing Pontiac. Seemed there was a better class of people bringing in clothing. The last 3 times I went to Fairbury it was slim pickins - not nice clothing, more akin to Goodwill. I noticed the building that housed the shop in Pontiac is empty. The owner should hightail it over there and rent the shop again. I predict the place will be out of business soon if that doesn't happen. I've been a customer for 10 years, but I'm sorry to say I will probably cut down on how often I visit the store. I may not even return because gas is too high to travel 50 miles and not find something worthwhile.
