I went into this location for some eye drops ( for my daughters pink eye) on 1/11/20. When I first approached the register, there were 3 employees standing around talking. I spoke and the only person that acknowledged me was the cashier. I thought I had a coupon loaded into my rewards (which I just activated the same day, because I typically DON'T shop at Walgreens) the cashier was very condescending. Fast forward, I get all the way home, open the box and it's EMPTY, no eye drops. At this point I'm pissed, because I already never want to step foot in this place again because of the service, now I have to go back and I'm sure be accused of removing a bottle of $10 eye drops from a box. By the way, the reason I went to Walgreens was because CVS did not have the brand I needed in stock! So I go back into the store, there's still two out of the three staff standing at the register. I tell them the box was empty, they are looking at me and not saying ANYTHING. The cashier( the male) proceeds to punch something on the screen, I say to him " I don't want the money, I NEED THE EYE DROPS" his response to me was , " well you can go back there and check". I get the drops, come back to the register, shack the box in front of him. They are still standing there saying NOTHING. I ask if he needed to do anything with the drops, I also point out that the packaging on the new ones that I pulled off the shelf was different. His response was " well you shook the box, there in there but I'm keeping your receipt". My response to him was " that's fine" and I left the store. If he wasn't such an asshole, I would have even offered to pay for the box AGAIN just to prove that I wasn't trying to do anything illegal. I was extremely frustrated and here's why:
1- I am a NURSE, a professional and needed these for my daughter. I'm sure people do steal, however, I would not waste my time coming into a store TWICE for a $10 box of eye drops, that I could have gotten much cheaper had I just gone to urgent care and used my Health Insurance
2- the major issue at hand is why does your store have empty stock on your shelves???? And why didn't the employee go back with me to investigate this????? I'm not sure what he did with the empty box and the fact that he said "I'm going to keep your receipt" I'm sure is not protocol! I worked in retail as a teenager and I know that a person has a right to keep their receipt , even if they had returned every item listed. Oh by the way, I purchased a hallmark card, that was also listed on the receipt that he kept.
3- the employees that were on shift were very unprofessional. Maybe because I am an African American woman, coming in with a child, they assumed that maybe I was of lower class or that I would waste my time coming out in the rain to get over on some eye drops!
My advice, make sure that someone audits your stock, at least weekly and give your employees more training on customer service and diversity. read more
