Thanks to all teachers and especially Miss Jen for giving my daughter lots of attention and helping her to overcome that anxiety. My daughter has very good memories about her preschool. Worst school experience, on our first day, my 19month child was playing with some musical…read moreinstruments and one the the teacher was afraid that my child will break it, so she grabbed the tambourine out of her hand and put it behind her......The teacher was playing a plastic box as a drum, and she's not worried if it will break since it's already half broken? My child is only 19 month and she took the chance to let her discover and learn, without teaching her with patience. After circle time that teacher stood up walking with out care and bumped into my child and kicked her into a very sharp table corner, dented her forehead and my child started bleeding. The whole classroom wasn't protected, but right after this happened they started to put up all the protection for sharp corners......I was very upset and disappointed. The principal also called me after, but her phone call made me felt worse, and she said she was going to check back with me and I never received another phone call from her! My child has a scar on her forehead and the dent is still there after more than a month. I have taken my child to many daycare and community center, and we are still waiting to be called on a few wait list, since this school has opening, I thought I could take her there for the time being, but This is the worst school we have been to, and I suggest moms that wants to apply think twice, because they are very unprofessional. If this system could let me choose no star, I wouldn't have given one！

I can't comment on the actual…read moreexperience of having a kid in this school because after taking my deposit for two children and then talking at myself and my husband about how superior the school is and how there's a million year waitlist because not only is Waldorf education the best but this particular Waldorf is the only one in the Pacific Northwest to do this and that, and despite myself and my husband having ample experience and knowledge about various alternative pedagogical approaches including Waldorf, we felt the admissions person just didn't really want to know about us or our children. Our family has moved a couple of times for work and we've applied to many different independent schools in the most competitive systems in the country; NY, LA, SF and Seattle. They have gotten into most but not all. Never have I come across a school however that despite having checked in a couple times along the way, stating interest, and being told decisions go out in April and then April came and went and no communication, at all. There were a bunch of other strange lacks in communication along the way as well I just don't need to bother. For a school that seems to think they're community and respect based, for the first time in applying for schools I definitely felt like my deposit was just money they like to collect every year. I feel like it was a dodged bullet though, I have talked to others that had a similar experience. The campus is adorable though!

For us, it was the appeal of a rounded, rich curriculum that includes the arts as an intrinsic part of daily routines. Waldorf kids spend more time outdoors, have differently paced days with carefully established rhythms, and develop close relationships with teachers who honor and respect individual patterns of thought and learning. One of the high school principals in Bellingham once told me that he always spots the Waldorf kids at his school as they are often the ones that most easily converse with adults and they bring with them a unique kind of engagement and curiosity about the world. He said that they were some of his favorite kids to work with. We have seen a Waldorf education work its magic on both of our kids. Our older son thrived at WHWS and went on become a confident and successful student in public high school and now college (where he has created a classic Waldorf-type of major that combines his love of economics with art history). Our younger son is currently in third grade at WHWS and we hope that he will remain through 8th grade.

Erin and Lenora are such talented teachers, and their approach to always lead and learn with kindness and empathy was especially helpful. I can see how much they both guided him and contributed to his positive growth. It was so nice to know that when he was there he had teachers who cared so much for him and were helping him work on the things we were working on at home, all while making it a space he loved to go to. I couldn't imagine a better preschool or better teachers, and would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to send their kids there to do it!

Both my children have attended ULP and it will forever hold a special place in our family memories when my youngest moves on to kindergarten in September. As a SAHM I've found ULP to be the perfect supplement to our family's routine to prepare my kids for school. Erin and Lenora (ULPs teachers) really focus on play and helping the kids develop as members of the preschool community.
