Gasthof Waldeslust is a really special place for a countryside dining experience. We visited on a holiday for lunch before going hiking, and it was a perfect way to start our outing.
We arrived around 12:30 without a reservation, and the host asked if we would rather sit indoors or in the Wintergarten (enclosed patio). We picked the patio, and it was a quiet, glass-enclosed space attached to the back of the restaurant building. Perfect for an overcast day, but I could see it getting toasty in the sun. It also got really loud when a large table with kids arrived, so the acoustics are non-ideal.
We had a fairly light lunch, but all of the food was delicious. I had the steamed trout, which was perfectly prepared, and served with lemon, butter, and horseradish, along with potatoes and cucumber salad. My daughter had the potato pancakes with gravlax, which was also great. They don't have a lot of vegetarian options, and I think my wife was a little disappointed with her cauliflower entree. They have a nice kids' menu with very affordable prices.
The restaurant seems to serve the livestock, fowl, and fish that they raise themselves, and you can walk around the building to visit almost all of these animals (apparently the beef cattle are across the road), which adds a nice touch (if a bit of a whiffy smell) to the experience.
Highly recommended; would absolutely return. Nice for a family meal or to celebrate a special occasion. read more
