A few days after moving here last year, I had an appointment with Dr. C. I knew nobody in the area…read morereally but the very first visit here felt so comfortable I almost forgot I was seeing a GI doctor. The office itself is very inviting and feels cozy. The front staff is very helpful, friendly and works quickly to get the administrative work done properly to get you seen as soon as possible. The nursing staff was also great, especially Tamara who was both kind and funny. She helped make would might be an uncomfortable visit feel like a chat with a family member. This became the first of a few visits and they all felt the same and I was given the same attention. Dr. C was considerate, patient and listened to my needs very intently. I appreciate his candor and empathy and highly recommend his practice to anyone in need of GI care.

This is the first negative review I have ever posted about anyone, so it took a great deal for me…read moreto reach the point where I felt compelled to share my experience. My PCP and my Duke bariatric team both suspected I had SIBO and initially referred me to Duke Gastroenterology. However, because the wait to be seen was nearly a year, my Duke provider encouraged me to seek care outside of Duke and even offered to write a referral because they knew how overwhelmed their outpatient GI system was. After doing my research, I specifically chose Dr. C. because of his outstanding reputation and reviews. I wanted him to be my gastroenterologist and I felt fortunate to finally secure an appointment five weeks away. I even informed the Duke physicians during my hospitalization that I already had an appointment scheduled with Dr. C., and they told me that was great because I would need outpatient follow-up after discharge. Unfortunately, before my appointment, my condition worsened so severely that my physician instructed me to go to the emergency room, where I was hospitalized for six days and evaluated by Duke's inpatient GI team. While I was laying in the hospital bed, Dr. C.'s office called--not to check on me or ask how I was doing--but to cancel my appointment because I had been seen at Duke. I literally begged them to keep my appointment. I explained that I would desperately need outpatient follow-up after my hospitalization, that Duke's inpatient physicians do not become your outpatient gastroenterologists and that Duke itself had encouraged me to seek care outside of their system because of the year-long wait times and overwhelming backlog. I told them I knew Duke would not be able to get me a timely outpatient appointment and pleaded with them not to leave me without follow-up care. Despite my repeated pleas, they refused to keep my appointment and insisted that Duke was now responsible for my care. That assumption was completely wrong!!! After I was discharged, Duke confirmed exactly what I had tried to explain to Dr. C's office - they could not get me an outpatient GI appointment for months because their system is overwhelmed. Duke was doing the best they could with limited resources, but there simply were not enough outpatient appointments available. I was left without the continuity of care that every patient deserves after a six-day hospitalization and was forced to start over while still recovering. My insurance case manager was appalled when I explained what had happened. She specifically told me that what Dr. C.'s office had done was unacceptable, documented my complaint, told me it would be investigated, and personally helped me find another gastroenterologist who could see me much sooner. What hurt the most was that I genuinely wanted Dr. C. to be my doctor. I chose his practice because of its excellent reputation, yet the moment I sought emergency medical care because I was desperately ill, I felt like I was being punished for going to the hospital. Once the office learned I had been treated at Duke, it felt as though they wanted nothing more to do with me. That is not how patients should be treated. This review is not intended to attack Dr. C. personally or damage his reputation. It is simply my experience and I believe my voice deserves to be heard. Behind every appointment is a real person who is scared, sick, and depending on the healthcare system to help them. Healthcare systems may have policies and backlogs, but patients should always come first. In my case, I did not feel like they did and I hope sharing my story encourages this office to put compassion and continuity of care ahead of incorrect assumptions so that no one else has to experience what I did. Please keep in mind that Duke was the one that told me to seek care outside of the network. I sincerely hope this office reconsiders how it handles patients who require emergency hospitalization before their first appointment. No patient should be made to feel as though seeking emergency medical care disqualifies them from receiving the follow-up care they had already waited weeks or months to receive. Healthcare should put patients first.

The staff at cary gastro are superb; efficient, friendly, patient oriented. Dr. Pai and Hayley were awesome in making me feel comfortable. Darnetta , Heather and Gretchen were in constant communication. Hayley helped me with my questions, and always was friendly and comforting. Wake Med was efficient and things went smoothly. The nurses while waiting in the 'back' Denise, and Ms Holland were awesome in making me comfortable. It was an upbeat environment, patients chatting, nurses being efficient and friendly. I highly recommend this team of outstanding professionals. V

If I could give zero stars I would. I saw Nidhi Malhotra from this practice on May 20th and she is…read morethe absolute worst doctor I have ever had the displeasure of working with. To begin, she was very cold and so unfriendly. She rushed me through my appointment and interrupted me multiple times while I was trying to explain different symptoms and my history. She just had an overall demeanor that she didn't care. To make matters far worse, Nidhi Malhotra knew that I had just completed a year of inpatient, residential, PHP, and IOP treatment for an eating disorder that she was informed by my PCP was SEVERE. I had not even been out of treatment a whole month when I had my appointment with her. I typically avoid getting weighed at the doctor since being made aware of my weight post eating disorder treatment for anorexia is obviously not helpful. However, I let them weigh me at Nidhi Malhotra's office because I figured they would need my weight for the upcoming colonoscopy anesthesia. I stepped on the scale backwards and asked that they not post my weight in my discharge papers due to my history. Despite knowing that I am a patient in recovery from a severe history of anorexia and confirming with me that they would not make my weight known, Nidhi Malhotra and her team completely disregarded what we talked about and posted notes to my chart with both my weight and BMI. I was aware that I had rapidly gained a lot of weight in treatment, but didn't know how much. Nidhi Malhotra noted on my chart that because of my high BMI I need to have the colonoscopy done at the hospital and that she suggests I try to maintain a healthy weight and BMI. She also wrote that I was asking for a colonoscopy, but my GI issues are likely due to "many mental health issues" which we NEVER talked about. What she wrote in my chart did not correlate with anything we actually discussed. I feel completely dismissed by this "doctor" and I relapsed with my eating disorder after seeing her notes in my chart, as she repeatedly referred to my high BMI and because of her I found out that my weight is way higher than I ever imagined. This may seem small to some, but this is highly upsetting to somebody with a long history of severe anorexia. One of my regular doctors also tried to get in touch with her after this incident and Nidhi refused to get back to her. What I found interesting is that after my appointment on May 20th I repeatedly got texts and emails to review my experience with Nidhi Malhotra. When I clicked the link to leave my review, there were two different ones - one for positive reviews that took you to Google and one for negative reviews that privately went to the office. I believe this is why there are so many positive reviews for this doctor on Google. But the negative reviews don't lie. Nidhi Malhotra is a horrible doctor and my regular doctors and I are absolutely disgusted with her. Lastly, she and her team never followed up with me about my concerns. What they did do is cancel my colonoscopy less than two weeks before it was scheduled without even calling me to discuss it. They sent me a portal message cancelling and claiming that it's because the hospital where the colonoscopy was supposed to take place doesn't take my insurance, which I know for a fact is false because I have had several procedures there. So now I am stuck with no answers to my raging GI symptoms and I'm in an eating disorder relapse after only being out of treatment for 2 months as of today. Nidhi Malhotra should not be practicing medicine and I strongly recommend that anybody looking for a GI doctor stays away.

Our family having had a previous mediocre experience with a general surgeon, I asked my physician to recommend a good one for me. He named Dr. Daniel Vig of UNC Rex Surgical Specialists. I read many online reviews. When I met with Dr. Vig he lived up to all of my positive expectations. He was friendly, attentive, kind, and professional. He listened. He answered all of my questions. He did not appear rushed. He recommended surgery to offset the likelihood of a greater problem later. Prior to my surgery Dr. Vig and the anaesthesiologist met with me again, and again all questions were answered in a relaxed, professional manner. The surgery went well. I experienced very little discomfort. Both times, when I called the office for information afterward, I was immediately allowed to talk with Dr. Vig's nurse; no waiting. I was very positively impressed with my experience. I have no hesitation in affirming Dr. Vig's high reviews and recommending him to anyone with a similar problem.
