Just like the other Tesco I shopped last month, this store is massively huge with a major selection of produce (two aisles!), cheese, meats, and then dry goods. I'm almost glad I don't have a car, because my carrying capacity limited my spending budget here. The store also has a little snack restaurant, though I thought it had a pretty good selection for a cafeteria style deal. Great hours, it's open from Monday at 06:00 until Saturday at 22:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00. (Aside from the bus issue.) There's a petrol station in the parking area and a "freephone" near the tills for calling a taxi.

Wider selection of clothes and other non-food items than the Tesco I shopped last week, including a small shoe department (boots!) and an aisle of kitchen items (drip coffee maker for £7!). With this shop, I think I've fully kitted out my flat. Prices are in line with what I expected, as Asda is "part of the Wal-Mart family". Slightly lower than Tesco and much lower than the urban Sainsbury's in Reading Town Centre. It's a huge store and it's very easy to spend a couple of hours in here without realizing it. One annoying thing - Bill, the greeter, kept announcing on the overhead how much he'd love to help and kept pointing out the specials and hours. Between that and the Asda advertisements (mostly Christmas specials and electronics items), there was barely a moment of peace. I have no idea how Brits got by before these mega-stores came to be. This store literally sells every type of food and in many different varieties. Lots of ready-to-cook and ready-to-serve items in many departments. Compared to the States, the produce section was much larger. It was also a little odd (as an American) seeing a massive aisle of spirits (whiskey, scotch, etc.). In many places back home, these are in a separate section or even a different store to keep them away from the kiddies. Loads of parking and a petrol station, Asda is also served by the Reading bus lines - numbers 21 and 22 stop right in front after a ~20 minute ride from the depot. It is a busy area and yet one can get ones shopping done quickly because there are so many check outs. Items are easy to find and are tastfully displayed. Good parking and also a large section where one can deposit old wine bottles. There used to be a series of small banks in this mall but there are only ATMs left. There is also a shop selling wheelchairs and mobility cars etc Across the road is a small Marks and Spencers which we use for variety .

Using my sat nav just to try find a grocery shop and I passed budgens and as I was trying to find a safe place to turn around I happen to find Tesco which to my delight had a big car park which was sign posted very well! So I got a great spot next to the entrance and at first grabbed a basket as I knew this was a small store but just going down one aisle I then decided I needed a trolley as there was more items you can get through this store! I ended up doing my whole weekend shopping which was great for me as I didn't have to venture anywhere else and the queues for the till was very short and staff were very friendly!

It's got a huge range of items, although no adult clothing (other than underwear) or much in the way of electronics/media/toys, unlike even bigger stores. For groceries, though, it's got a lot to offer. Fruit and veg are of good quality and usually well-stocked. The deli and fresh fish counters offer a lot of choice, and they even have a large 'Polish food' section. They have two 'car trolleys' which amuse small (and big) kids greatly, and make the shopping trip easier with children who are too big for the trolley seats but too small to walk all the way around without whining. Staff are friendly and helpful, and offers on food are good value.

Equivalent to the Aldi chain that has locations in the US, Lidl is a very inexpensive store with…read moreminimal service and lower price. Items for sale can sometimes be a little hit-or-miss depending on what they were able to purchase, but the usual basics are usually in stock. There typically isn't more than one brand of any item, but the quality is decent. Produce is varied and the frozen section is good. Dairy is also limited, but there is a reasonable choice in the booze and personal care areas. Service is minimal - other than a few shelf-stockers and one or two checkout staffers, there's no one there. The location is right next to the Reading West Station, on Oxford Road. As with some other stores, do have your £1 coin to deposit for a trolley ("cart" or "wagon" in American) though the hand-carry baskets are available. Two warnings. Bags are NOT free here - you either bring your own or you purchase them as you pack. They do NOT accept credit cards or checks. It's cash or debit card only. Yes, I would return. However the downside is that there may be things on my shopping list that aren't on offer, so I might end up in Tesco or Sainsbury's instead.

Think the store also has a chemist in it too which is handy for prescriptions whilst you are shopping. The shelves are well stacked most of the time and the floor is always clean. Good selection and availability of products . Staff are well presented and are friendly. They also seem to know where most products are if you cant find anything unlike quite a few supermarkets where they don't actually know where products are. Overall good store.

leaving Tesco yesterday I realised I had a puncture so pulled in to the recycling area opposite the…read morepetrol station. the gentleman in there offered to help me as he was an ex RAC patrol man. in the end he couldn't as I did not have the correct equipment. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who stopped to offer help, in the end a lovely young man from Latvia came and helped me. He pulled out this huge screw/ bolt from the tyre then repaired it with something magic that looked like a rubber plug. I don't know his name, he said he lived in new Milton and he had a blue car. He really was a saviour to me. I was so amazed that so many kind people came to my aid and offered help. with all the bad things happening in this world today, all the people who stopped were just kind and wonderfu, I'm glad I live in this great country.

It saddens me how little personal interest people take in food, so when I was last in this shop and a staff member queried what I planned to make with my ingredients, I was thrilled. Beyond that she offered me tips and suggestions, and said we could talk more next time I was in. The focus on ingredients is mainly Filipino, with a selection of both freshly made sweet and savoury street style dishes to take home.
