Waitrose is a staple brand that you'd expect to find at any motorway service station operated by Welcome Break, so having one here at London Gateway is no surprise, and this is pretty much what you'd expect.
The prices are rather high, again Waitrose is notorious for being a more premium and high-end supermarket anyway, combined with it being London and motorway services, it all comes together.
The range of essentials and snacks and to-go food was reasonable. There is also a Starbucks-branded coffee machine at the front of the store which is useful if you're too busy to go in the Starbucks store across the way.
They didn't have self-checkouts which would have been handy, it was manned checkouts only, but the service was fast and efficient.
Not the cheapest or most attractive of Waitrose locations, but the best of a bad bunch of options to grab a snack or cold drink while stopping along the M1... at a premium. 3* read more
